I have a problem with system wide shortcuts. I have managed to do the following:
A shortcut for Lock Screen in the key chain menu in menubar.

but that shortcut just wont work?
tends to freeze or lock up and the keyboard shortcuts do not work

Am I correct in the assumption that if I set the view options on the top level (OS-X HDD, for example) and select 'Use as Defaults' any folders below that (i.e. everything) will assume those settings?
If so, it doesn't seem to be doing that for me. I'm constantly coming across folders that I need to set the view options manually...
I�m trying to help my mum set up her imac and she has asked me to help make the text bigger on the screen. I�ve shown her how to zoom on word/safari/etc, however ideally I want to make all the text on the computer bigger - eg. menus at top of screen, finder text, etc...
The first thing I tried was adjusting the display resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600x900 or 1280x720, but this seemed to make the screen blurry.
Does anyone know if there is any other way that I can help make the text bigger for all system elements?
I regularly e-mail/chat back and forth with friends in the Netherlands and Germany, so I was wondering if there was a way for me to do a quick system wide language change that could spell-check for me. So, what are those little flags for on my Menu Bar? I have the Dutch, German, and American flags, but I don't notice any changes when I switch between the three.

1) Heroes of Newerth
2) Itunes (with music playing)
3) Safari
I feel like my $2k computer should be able to take these tasks on with no problems but i get systemwide lag, even my text cursor is lagging while im typing this. Is it just an incapable computer or am i doing something wrong?
How can I set finder's default to be arrange by name instead of arrange by none system wide?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen ever I try to open or save a file in any application the spinning wheel is shown and the dialog takes from 5 to 20 seconds to display. Once it is on screen the speed returns to normal. I have a G5 Power Mac 1.6 GHz (Single Processor) 2 GB RAM (crucial) 2 SATA hard-disks (original 80 GB used as a clone for the 160 GB - I use carbon copy cloner) Everything else is as standard with the Mac. This problem started with 10.3 and may have been at the same time as installing the second 160 GB hard-disk, cloning the original to the new one, then changing the SATA cables around to make the new hard-disk on bus A. I then upgraded to Tiger but the problem still persists. I have tried repairing permissions and have used support tools like cocktail etc to check for hard drive issues and clear the cache files.
Also, on installing the second hard-disk, I also tried swap cop to change the swap file to the backup hard-disk. This did not work so I manual modified the files to return them to the original state. I did this while the system was running 10.3. I take it on upgrading to 10.4, the swap file config would have been fixed anyway? Everything else on the system seems fine. If nothing specific is found I may try removing the old hard disk.
I just bought a very expensive Mac box, wide-screen flat monitor, printer, you name it, and I need SOFTWARE! I have searched the trial-ware sites, and many of the types of programs I need say "WINDOWS ONLY", or, "NO MAC VERSION AVAILABLE". Is there a place/site that specializes in Mac software that I do not see?

I am not interested in gaming or doing anything fancy just surfing the web and working on documents and maybe looking at movies. I already have a hack that enables me to use a regular display which doesn't mirror the iBook screen. I just wondered whether I would encounter problems using a wide screen display and what the maximum resolution I should look for.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an inch wide white stripe that runs from the top to the bottom of my screen. This is on an Imac. The cursor disappears when going through it but pops out on the other side. It doesn't move but I can drag my window back and forth to view the part the stripe covers.
Any ideas or should I locate a local mac repair person?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI read a few posts and articles before i ordered my new i7 MBP with HR matte display about some of the models sometimees froze all of a sudden, now it seems mine has this same issue.. 3 time now, since i got it on the 25th of May. 15 min ago i was sitting and responding to a thread on Facebook, then out of the blue, everything stops repsonding. System is running, mouse is frozen, nothing i can do but to hit the "big button" and restart the entire system. Loosing any work that i might be doing is actually the worst scenario since im a photographer.. Anyone experience these random freeze ups too ? And last but not least, what will Apple do a about it when i contact them in the morning?.. Replace it or let me cancel my purchase and if replaced, how long does that normally take? (Bought it through Apple Store).

I have an iMac G4 with Leopard, and there seems to be a glitch with my System Preferences. I can lock and password protect all of the panes available as I would normally. I have however discovered an issue. These locks seem to unlock themselves after powering back on. I'm not sure if the same happens upon logging back in, as I never log out to start with. Any solutions for this? Better yet, am I the only one who experiences this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook with OSX 10.5.7 and 4gb ram. Having fallen victim to the current scare tactics out on the web, I downloaded and installed PC Tools's iantivirus. All went well with install. About half way through the initial system scan, iantivirus hung up and locked my system. I had to do a hard power off with the power button. Now, my mac will not boot past the Apple logo. I don't even get the spinning wheel. I have booted to my install disk and ran disk utilities and everything checks out ok. I reset the pram and removed the battery and power supply and held the power button down for 10 or so seconds. Nothing. After several minutes, the system restarts and the cycle begins again. I cannot get into safe mode.

But I have a complaint about it.On a MacBook, the screen isn't wide enough for all of my bookmarks to show up in the bookmarks bar. The "bookmarks" menu in the bookmarks bar is hiding the last bookmark I have. How do I get rid of that? The top menu already has a bookmarks pull down menu.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a used imac g4 from a friend but I cannot seem to get it started. I tried to log in with the master password but do not have the password or install disk for OSX. I asked my friend about it and he said the same thing, he lost the user and master password including install disk. I took the comp from his hands anyway, it's in new condition and he never really used it, just forgot about it I suppose. It also seems that on startup the mac searches for disks and servers, so it could of been a part of a network system???????
I would like to know if there is a way to get into the bios and reset the whole system without password prompts and all that. Which is the best way to do this?
I have the mac osx install disk from my ibook but I tried to boot the disk and it's not booting. I also have the install disk for os tiger and that's not booting either. There must be a super secure lock on the system.
I have a first gen Mac pro, I am getting a sporadic lock up where the screen freezes, and it stops responding to keyboard and mouse input (and it becomes inaccessible from the network). This has happened in normal use twice.
I have tried several times to run the Apple Hardware Test off the original Os X disk, but it locks up up every time in that mode. It also locks up immediately when I boot into single user mode (which I did in order to attempt to run memtest). At least it refuses keyboard input in Single User (with my normal bluetooth keyboard, as well as a USB keyboard that I borrowed).
I did run memtest from a terminal window while logged in normally, and it was able to access 11 of my 12 gigs of RAM, and it passed, so I guess I am 11/12ths sure it is not bad RAM.
When the system does lock up, when I do a hard power cycle with the button on the front of the machine, it will not reboot -- my screen remains black. If I let it sit for a minute or two like that, then power cycle again, it does boot up normally. This is very consistent on these lockups - no boot the first time, works fine the second.
In general, I think it is running hotter than it used to -- at least it seems like the fans are running at high speed more than they used to, but I can't swear to, or quantify that.
I was on the phone with Apple tech support for about an hour yesterday, and he finally decided it had to be taken in for service.
I wanted to see if anybody here has any ideas what the problem might be, especially if it is something I could fix myself, before I lose the machine for however long it will take Apple to fix it.
Does OSX has a keyboard shortcut as linux (CTRL ALT L) to lock the screen? Unfortunately, OSX doesn't require password to return after a display sleep. It only requests password after sleep. I need a keyboard shortcut to solve this problem or a screensaver with sleep display function.

I have tried all my passwords and nothing... I have a Time Capsule with data back up and I was told that you put the OS disk in and go to utilities then selct the time machine and it should restore from there..
