Hardware :: AirPort Extreme - Light Is Green No Internet?
Sep 20, 2008
I have a networking question.
So I bought an AirPort Extreme Wireless-N and hooked it up to my cable modem and used the AirPort Utility to set up the base station to use DHCP.
It asks for stuff like DNS information and IP addresses in the wizard but I leave them blank hoping that the process is just going to be plug and play.
However, at the end of the wizard I was left with an amber light and a message saying that my internet connection was not working.
So then I go and plug my MBP directly to the cable modem via ethernet to try find my IP information. The modem works, so this rules out any problem of the modem to have internet connectivity.
It also gives me a bunch of IP address information:
So then I go back into the AirPort Utility and this time opt for a manual set up. I put in IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, and DNS information into where it tells me to and let the wizard do its thing.
Afterward it says that the entire thing works perfectly. So I'm feelin' great about this except for the fact that I can't access the internet.. The light on the unit itself is SOLID GREEN, but there is no connectivity.
I am pretty much at a loss as to what to do.

Have been using this device (500GB, Late 2008) for awhile with no issues.
This week, it has been dropping my internet connection at least once per day. This is both wireless and LAN. The green light stays on. To bring it back up, all I do is unplug and it resets, so I don't think it is the DSL modem.

We just bought a new iMac this afternoon. Haven't been able to connect to the internet, although the assistant says the connections are working fine. The ethernet light is green. Safari continually shows a message that says, 'your computer isn't connected to the internet."

I was trying to set up my airport extreme with my internet when I couldn't get anywhere because of the blinking yellow light. I have a 2wire at&t router that i connected with to the airport extreme via ethernet(the port in the back has a green light btw). I tried scanning for the airport extreme with airport utility but it couldn't find anything.

I had modem/router, which I got from the phone company here. It wasn't working that great, so I decided to order a Netgear modem and an Apple Airport Extreme. I got the Netgear modem to get me on the web, and the ethernet connection light stayed on, but when I connect it to my AE, that ethernet light goes off and the AE is constantly blinking. I reset the modem, and still nothing. I then reset the AE, and still the same thing. And when I try to connect my MB and iMac wirelessly to the AE, it tells me there are no apple devices present, and to retry.

i have a belkin g plus mimo router that i'm using to send internet to my iphone, powermac (via airport card), and an xp box (via ethernet)
my problem is that the powermac drops the internet connection sporadically. as in its still on the network with a router connection just not receiving internet data. it can also not be accessed remotely by the iphone while this is happening. almost like a false report of being on the network. network prefs show an green light and the proper ip addy, and both the iphone and xp box are still on the network and receiving internet. the only way i have found to remedy the problem is to turn off airport and then turn it back on from the menu bar. this is not accetable. only a temporary solution. especially since i like to access the network from the "outside" (ie other computers, or my iphone on the road). i have no idea what to do bout it. i don't even really understand what the underlying problem is

My router is giving me troubles all of a sudden. It's been flashing the yellow/amber light and I cannot connect to the internet anymore through it.
I've unplugged it and used a different ethernet cable through it, but it still won't connect.
However, my internet does work when I directly plug the ethernet cable into the back of my Mac. So it's not my ISP, which makes me think it's the router.
My AEBS is no more than 6-8 months old, and this is the first time I can't seem to fix it. Usually unpluging it and turning it off and back on will work.

I have an airport extreme that was passed down to me when my aunt bought a time capsule. It has worked perfectly for nearly a year. I was out of town for a few weeks and came back to the amber blinking light. I use a cable modem to connect to the internet and a direct connection to my macbook pro works fine. I figured out how to use airport utility and i thought the errors were fixed, as the light is green now....but my laptop (or ipod touch) will not connect to the internet wirelessly.

I recently purchased an older model Airport Extreme on Ebay. Came in the original box and looks as though it was never used. I installed it on my G5 single processor which is equipped with an Airport Extreme card. I get my internet from Cox Communications in Tucson via a Scientific Atlanta modem. When I do a diagnostic, it shows everything related to the Airport is green. But, it doesn't work and I have no connection to the internet. What am I doing wrong?

I hope the mac folks can lend a guy a hand. I have the latest AE and it runs great with a shared HD between Vista PC and my Macs. My ISP is dynamic so I'm using dyndns.org. Since I don't really want to leave a computer on 24-7 (for the dyndns updates) I have a linksys router take the feed from the cable modem. AE is in bridged mode. All disks and wireless is flawless. I can access my webcams via the static ip from dyndns, route it to linksys then to camera. But I can't figure out how or what to do to get access to my shared drivers over the net. I researched for a couple hours today and came up with a few people who did it (maybe they didn't have a leading router like me) but they didn't leave enough clues, details or links to research it some more. Apple online support is slim and I'm clueless on Bonjour configs.

I'm thinking about purchasing an airport extreme and replacing my current wireless router. So I'm wondering, would my internet be any faster? Right now I am on a belkin wireless router thats about 4 - 5 years old. So if you were in my position would you purchase the airport extreme?

I've had this simultaneous dual band APX for a while now and have just been overlooking this problem, but now I really just want to resolve it. Basically it will not connect to the internet when plugged directly into our cable modem. In order for it to work, I have to leave our old Belkin wireless router plugged in between the APX and cable modem.

I cannot connect to Internet via my MBP (late 2013) through my Airport Extreme. It will connect to the AE fine, but the Airport Utility will show that the AE is not connected to the internet. Which is a lie, because other devices (iOS, Windows) will connect to internet through the same AE. working on the MBP under Bootcamp. So we can also rule out hardware issues with the WiFi chipset. This must be a MacOS (Mavericks) related issue.

It could be a firewall setting. It could be a software update. Whatever it is, I cannot connect to the internet using Extreme (it does connect to the internet using just plain old wifi). This is a sudden problem--it worked fine last week.
I'm using OS 10.5.2.

I currently use a Powerbook, and I access the internet though our AirPort Extreme router. Recently, for some reason, although I am on the right network, and signal strength is full - I am unable to connect to the internet! I've called my provider, and everything is fine on their end according to their systems. I've tried power cycling, and checking my settings, and everything SEEMS to be ok.

I have an older cable modem running Comcast's service connected to the newest AirPort Extreme in my current setup. My computer is a 13.3" MacBook Pro with all of the latest software updates. With all of that said, I'm having problems with having webpages hang, dropped audio on streams and constant re-buffering of video. Strangely enough, my signal is always at full strength no matter how far away I am from the AirPort. Until a few days ago I was using a Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT firmware with absolutely no troubles at all, but things have gone to hell with this new router. I've rebooted my modem and AirPort and I've browsed through the settings without finding any solutions yet. I've tried 5Ghz mode, I've tried being inches away from the AirPort and I've tried going to 802.11g with no improvements. Does anyone have an idea about what is going on?

my airport extreme connection to internet keeps failing. It is occurring about every 3-4 days, where I get amber light. By unplugging it resets again. Is there something I can do, or do I need to by a new system. It is about 2 years old.

I just bought my first Mac from ebay i'm a new user and don't know much about macs, I was using my ethernet to surf the web until my belking router comes in. So this is what I have done so far my desktop is wired to the router running XP the connection is fine and my setup is a WPA, my macbook is running 10.5.6 Lepord my router says the MB is connected to the router but I'm unable to connect to the internet. TCP/IP is set to DHCP my airport says status on, and that it has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet I've already have my MB set to share web, internet, files & printers on my network. Is there something i missed or i'm doing wrong I called belking and got no problems with the router we used many setup changes and I ran a hardware test on my MB and no problems were found.

I have read the threads about my accessing the USB drive on my Airport Extreme via an AFP connection...and it works. Without a hitch. BUT I would like to allow others (who are not on my home network) to access this same drive (with some level of security). Is THAT possible and if so, how? I have 2 partitions on this HD, one is a mac-formatted partition and the other is a FAT32 for PC user access. Or course, each partition has a unique name so, depending on the user, they would access either the Mac or PC formatted partition. BTW, I did some thread-checking but all seem to find are one's that show how to I can make a connection to my own drives away from the home, NOT someone who is not associated with my home network to make the same connection to the USB drive on my APE.

I have just recently started having this problem. It seems when the computer sits idle, the connection drops. I don't see my network in the dropdown menu. I open airport utility, and the extreme base station does not show up. I find I have to unplug it, or do an actual reset on it to get it to show up.
I try resetting the cable modem as well, but I have never had issue with the internet connection itself here before. I try restarting the computer. When it does come back online/show up in AIrport Utility, it seems kind of random because it will take a few attempts at all 3 methods mentioned before it just suddenly appears in Airport Utility. So I really have no idea what is helping. The process is a pain in the butt though.
I have searched around, but I can't find many current articles on the problem.
The only other info I can offer is that I never had any problems until I installed the last Airport Utility update. I am running 10.5.6. The problem doesn't seem to happen while I am working, and online frequently.
I don't even know where to start trouble shooting.

I have a 2008 Mac Pro. I am wondering whether its a better idea to go for a WiFi internal card,or is it better to get the airport extreme for wireless internet with router? My knowledge of WiFi/setup is quite limited.

I have a 3 month old Airport Extreme Base Station(dual band) running a secured 2.4 and 5GHz network.
It is dropping it's wireless internet(not signal, just internet) on my 13" Unibody MBP at least 2 or 3 times per day. Not at a certain time, or under certain circumstances, and I can't replicate it. My computer will continue to see the networks(named airFORBUSH and airFORBUSH(5GHz)), but there will be no internet, and it won't stay connected to them. If I connect to the network named "FORBUSH", which is our Linksys network, it connects and is up and running again, so I know it's not our ISP.
Here's my setup in my house(I'm the only one having this issue, since I'm the only one running wireless on the AEBS

I just got a 2010 Airport Extreme to replace my February 2009 model. The 2010 model does not seem to work with my cable modem. It is not faulty because I have already tried two different ones. My MacBook will recognize and I will get a green light, but no internet connection. When I connect my 2009 model Airport Extreme I do get internet connection.

I have just bought an Airport Extreme and Airport express, as I have quite a large house, so needed to boost the signal (plus its quite a remote area, dont get mobile signal, etc).
I have Airport Extreme connected to the Satellite broadband modem by ethernet cable.. has a green light on and is working and connected fine to my macbook air downstairs..
I have also set up the Airport Express upstairs, which is about 30 ft from the Airport Extreme box (wirelessly) - the airport express is also showing a green light.
The iMac that I have is in a bedroom upstairs and is about 18ft from the Airport Express.. however the signal on my imac is only showing 1 bar on the airport icon on my toolbar on my mac? I was using it for a short while, then I had a message saying I wasnt connected??
Surely the iMac should be picking up the express that is only about 18ft away???
when I check under 'Utilties' and Airport, it is showing the Aiport Extreme and Express on my computer, both showing a green light (that was when I had a faint signal).. It sounds as though, my imac is picking the signal maybe from the extreme downstairs??

I've just moved and have had to switch ISPs. I have DSL service and the only modem option my ISP provides is an all-in-one modem/Wi-Fi router. I have an AirPort Extreme that I would like to use, but with this setup, unfortunately, I have to put it behind the modem/router.
I've used the AirPort Extreme both wirelessly and via Ethernet, and it is noticeably slow in connecting to Web sites. My browser often gets stuck on "Looking up [URL]" or "Connecting to [URL]" when it's plugged into the AE via Ethernet. When I plug directly into the DSL modem/router, sites are connected to and loaded immediately. The problem only exists when plugged into the AE. (Strangely, speed tests show that the AE downloads at nearly the same speed as the DSL modem/router, but this doesn't account for the noticeable delay in connecting to and the initial loading of Web pages).

I've owned a Netgear and a D-Link route before and with those, you could access all your router settings and statuses over the internet. The Login would usuallly be the ip address and the password would be one of your choice. I can't seem to find any settings to enable this on my Airport Extreme.
