The software crashed and after I started it again there was a mess of files which are not found although I downlaoded them from the camera.
Now the software doesn't show anything. Only gray screen and it is stuck on "restoring window layout"

My FCP X stalls on opening either after selecting a Library or without any library selected. I did create a new library called test but still no go. FCP X does not get past restoring window layout. The stalling did take place after a frustrating day copy ing and relinking files.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been searching for a keystroke to restore an application or a window of an application that I've minimized (Command-M) to the Dock. My search has not been successful.
With some applications Command-1 will work, but not often.
I'm wondering if there is a standard key combination to do this. If not, I know I can create a user keyboard shortcut, but I don't know how to create the black diamond character or if that would even work.
I changed the language on my keyboard from english to spanish and now when i put in my password i cant login. Can i reset the language without logging on, back to an English keyboard? Is there a way to see my text as i tyipe so i know where my password is messing up?

When I start FCP it loads all my projects, then it says 'Restoring the Layouts' and stops. I can access the menubar but if I try to do anything, a mutated layout appears and all is bad. I have tried removing the layouts folder from the finder library, but it doesn't seem to work...

i had firefox open and i was typing on another site. i opened the special characters window because i needed a unique symbol. when i tried closing that window, it froze. i proceeded to quit firefox so it would go away. it stayed on my screen though, even with firefox closed. next i thought my computer was just being buggy. so, i completely shut it down for a while and logged back on. the window is still there and won't go away.

after the previous attempts didn't work i've tried completely removing firefox from my computer and redownloading it, which didn't work, and restoring my system, which also didn't work.
FCPX 10.1.2 gets stuck while loading a project: the status bar on top of the window saying "Loading xxx project" shows the task is completed with a full blue bar but nothing happens and the panel doesn't go away. Only a few commands are available (not greyed out) in the menus; the Quit Final Cut Pro is available but I get a beep and nothing happens when I select this command. Only way to exit is to Force quit (opt-cmd-esc).
The strange thing is that I did not try to open that xxx project in the timeline. I was just trying to copy a range from a compound clip in the timeline into another compound clip already open in (another level of) timeline: just after selecting the range (R) FCP X decided to load project xxx and it got stuck.
Another weird thing is that while the Loading panel was visible and I had no control on FCPX, FCPX started to render the compound clip in the timeline. So I waited hoping that at its end (not the usual behavior... but ok) I could continue working. No way: rendering finishes, but the Loading panel is still there.

SO I tried to partition the disk - 50% for Windows & 50% for Mac Use. On trying to install the Windows 7 Premuim DVD software, it comes up with a message that the correct drivers cannot be found. My main issue is that it wont release/eject the DVD anymore. I inserted but it wont eject at all.
When I shut down or cancel the installation then it does shut down but when startup reoccurs I am unable to eject & it then goes straight into the windows 7 software trying to install it again - only for it to repeat the same cycle where it cant find the drivers & if I cancel installation it just shuts off without releasing the disc. Its my 1st mac so I am a novice except for all the other gear like the ipad, ipod etc

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy system preferences window is stuck on the left side of my screen. I can only view half of it and can't move it. I also can't select anything on the sys pref window. Please check out the image.
Somehow I opened up Mobile Me and got a separate pop up and I am unable to close or move that as well.
I have OS 10.5.8 and using a Microsoft Natural wireless 6000 mouse.
The solution was to delete the com.apple.dock.plist. I tried that and restarted, but nothing changed.
In case it will be helpful, I have included the chain of events that led to this problem:
- First, my mouse stopped letting me double-click to select a word or any text. I altered the settings and things just got worse.
-I reset it to default set up and restarted. That didn't change anything.
-I opened the system preferences window again and it was unresponsive. I cannot click on anything. When I click on my mouse icon, a menu appears with a "Remove" option.
-I repaired my disk permissions and restarted. No change.
-I opened the sys pref window and moved it. Then the cursor was stuck to it and as I moved the cursor around, the sys pref window moved with it. I couldn't click on anything anymore and had to do a hard restart. When it came back up, I clicked on restart and waited.
-When I opened the sys pref window again it was stuck on the left side of my screen and only half visible. Since then, I haven't been able to click on it to move it or select anything. I have no idea how I was able to open Mobile Me.
-My computer is pretty much unusable until I can solve this. My mouse is so messed up that I can barely use it.
I have an old G4, think its a powerMac, not sure. It was given to me. When i try to boot up, its loading up, but its stuck at "login window starting" screen.

It may be available from the quicktime components page. Make sure your internet connection is active, then click the continue button to check for the software."The problem is is that I am not trying to use quicktime and nor is it running currently AND when the cursor is over the window it just spins the color pin wheel. This window will not go away. I cannot drag it, close it or press continue on it. I have cleared all cookies, cache and reset safari and nothing works. I restart my computer and it is gone for maybe a few minutes and then it reappears .

Using the above, when I try to relink to files that are definitely the same type and size (WAVs or AIFFs only), the process SEEMS to work; the progress bar to confirm matching file goes through, file name disappears from the link search window and at the bottom it says (when searching for 1 file) Matched: 1 out of 1.
But nothing changes, still just red empty clips in Event Browser and Timeline. I've tried deleting original file references / aliases from the Original Media folder, tried linking to the new file from various older folders, tried changing the names of files, just nothing. I've trashed preferences with Preference Manager. Is this some bug they left behind in Mountain Lion because they think we should all be in Mavericks by now? I'm afraid to upgrade to 10.1.1 anyway with some older projects I still need to use - and I have other reasons to wait as well.
I installed all the Software Updates available, including the iSight and Airport updates (mainly to get rid of them, and I may add these later to my G5 iMac), and now when I reboot, I get no further than the "Starting Windows Login" part...
I have to assume its something to do with adding the updates as it was all working fine before then...
I can start in Safe Mode fine, and I get in OK, but normal boot halts (no errors, mouse works, just goes not go any further) at the "Starting Login Window"
Any thoughts on how to either A) Reverse the Updates B) Get around this?
I was dragging a photo out of a window when it got stuck in the toolbar. How do I get it out?

I have a number of folders on my desktop that contain movie files, jpeg files, you name it. When I try to import from the desktop, the import media window only shows the files and not the folders they are in! I have included a screen shot of what my window looks like when I select the desktop to import media. Again, I have a number of folders that don't show up, only the files in them. This is maddening when trying to import files! I know i can move the files to my hard drive but i am used to desktop work flow.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried to install Mavericks and it told me my disk had been damaged and needed to be repaired. I took it into the Genius bar, he wiped my disk and told me when I got home to plug in my backup harddrive and click restore and it should be resolved. But I did the restore, created a new profile and everything and I can find my backup folder because my harddrive is plugged in, but don't know how to get everything from that folder back onto the computer, and back in its rightful place. i.e. pictures back in iPhoto, songs back in iTunes

recently a friend of mine offered to update my 2009 MacBook to Mac osx Lion. when I received the computer back from him, it required a rather large update that has put my MacBook in a terrible state.
upon rebooting from the update, it froze at the grey Apple loading screen, and of course I thought nothing of it and gave it a little restart. Since then I cannot get it past the grey screen or the login window. it seems as though I cannot type in my password or click 'sleep' or any option the window gives me. I've been working on this issue all day, and I've tried countless things from the apple support community, with no avail.
I've tried clearing the cache, I've tried safe mode, I've tried the command+option+control+enter trick on the login page, I'm even trying to boot from the install disc my friend gave me...and it's just refusing to move past the grey screen.

Recently my iCloud account was hacked and all my Contacts were erased. This also caused all my Contacts on my iPhone and iMac to be erased as well. I can restore my Contacts from a Time Machine Back up to my iMac "Address Book", however as soon as I connect back to iCloud, all the contacts are erased. I tried to restore my iPhone from an earlier iPhone backup which restored everything, as far as I know, except the Contacts. I don't have a huge number of contacts or groups, so I don't care if the group information is lost. There seems to be some conflicting information on how to do this correctly, so I'm asking what the current best practice is to restore all my contacts from a Time Machine Backup to iCloud.

Every time my iMac restarts or boots up, it brings me to the OS X installer page since last night.
I have done the disk utility check and my hard drive is ok. I then tried restoring from network which stops half way and reboot. I have also tried restoring from Time Machine but it has also stopped and rebooted several times.

Trying to reinstall osx maverick. It says it's downloading . It also says your computer will restart automatically, but I have not seen any progress or the bar moving at the bottom for a half an hour? It is connected to the internet, but nothing seems to be happening . Is this normal?

I have a time machine backup I need to restore. It's a backup from an external drive that has failed.
When I go "enter time machine," I can't see the contents from the external drive anymore to restore it.. because the external drive isn't mounted. It's not mounted because it has failed. I can see when I browse the TM backup directly via finder there are files from the amounted drive in the backup... as I'd expect.
So... How do I restore drives from an unmounted external drive?
Do I need to buy a new drive and name it the same as the old drive? Then will it show up?

I am aware there are others threads of my problem however they date back years ago and after trying their solutions it still does not work.
After using Time Machine to restore my hard drive from a backup, I can't get past the white loading screen with apple logo after system restart during restore process. Ive gone into disk utility and repaired hard drive - it's fine. So I know this is a software glitch. I've also tried resetting SMC & PRAM (whatever those mean). No success and i cannot get past the white loading screen.
