OS X :: Double Tap Window Lock For Dragging?
Nov 8, 20101st Question: I've set my MBP to drag with a double tap. However, when I release the trackpad it takes a full second (it seems) before I can go about doing something else. In other words, I'll double tap a window...drag it to where I want, and then have to wait a second or so before I can move the mouse pointer again or else it will continue to move the window.
Is there a setting somewhere to minimize the time necessary between the double tap lock and when my finger is removed from the trackpad?
OS X :: Safari Toolbar Reverts To Default In Snow Leopard
Sep 4, 2009Just installed Snow Leopard (10.6) a few days ago, and most things are working as expected. However, I find that when I customize the Safari (4.03) toolbar, it will remain in that form until I quit. But when I open Safari again, the customized toolbar appears for a few seconds, and then reverts to the default. Very frustrating, as I have to customize it each time I open it in order to use buttons that have vanished. Firefox (ew) is fine, by the way.

Apr 18, 2012I have spotlight configured to not index the folder ~/Development, because it contains a lot of jars and I couldn't figure out how to turn off indexing of jars.Â
1) I open finder to ~/Development/Foobar, which is a folder containing other folders containing files ending in ".png".
2) I go to the search field in the toolbar and type "png", switch the search mode to "File Name", but nothing is found.Â
It looks like Finder's search function is completely broken if the folder being searched is not indexed by spotlight. Finder should search without the indexes instead, or the search field should be disabled if it is broken.Â
Is there an way to search a folder that is being excluded from spotlight indexing? How do I prevent spotlight from indexing the contents of jar files?

Applications :: Finder Window Resets Position To The Left When Dragging In A File?
Sep 12, 2010I am not sure how to 'title' my exact problem, so I'll explain it as best I can. I've also attached an Illustration of the problem which might explain it better.
I currently have the items in my folders displayed as 'columns'. When I open a new folder, the folders contents are displayed in the next column to the right. So after going a few folders in, the scroll bar on the bottom of the finder window is somewhat large. This is normal.
However the problem is, whenever I drag a document from my desktop into the most recently opened folder, finder resets the scrollbar to the position on the left side, forcing me to drag the window over again every time. This it a rather large annoyance, since the way I work I pull and replace lots of files from the same series of folders.
I just recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard (finally), and ever since then I have noticed this strange issue with Finder. It did not happen in Tiger or Leopard.
Is this something that Snow Leopard now does by default now, or am I the only one experiencing this?
OS X :: Snow Leopard Login Wallpaper Stuck In Leopard's Aurora - CANT CHANGE
Dec 25, 2009I don't know about you, but Snow Leopard's aurora is so much cooler. I used a program called "Desktop 2 Login" to change the default wallpaper for the login screen to a different wallpaper. Using this same program I changed it back to L's Aurora. (Still in 10.5). When I upgraded to snow leopard, the login wallpaper did not change. It is still stuck on L's aurora. I have used about every method besides Terminal, and it won't change.

Sep 2, 2009Photo booth kept saying I could't open it because of the version I was in so I stumbled upon this fix. Drag photo booth off of your dock and you'll see the puff of smoke. Next, go to the macintosh HD and click applications. Then just drag photo booth from the list and put it onto your dock and it should work. I don't know if it will work for everyone, but it worked for me.

When I try to open up Photo Booth, it says that it is not compatible with this version of Mac OS X (10.6.1). It also states that it is Photo Booth 2.0.3. Mar 2, 2012My photos are organized in folders according to the week they were taken, and I want to keep it that way. But if I want to pull up just the photos that have my friend Brian in them, how can I do that? First off iPhoto is NOT an option. I have used several versions of the iLife suite starting with Tiger, then moving on to Leopard and (currently) Snow Leopard. And the whole iLife suite is riddled with bugs to the point where I do not want to touch them as they are completely unreliable. DVD player crashes and freezes randomly, and falsely claims DVDs are damaged when they are brand new. Now I just use VLC, and my DVD movies play perfectly every time. Something I could almost never get DVD Player to do.
I have tried using iWeb, but after a few "undos" and some editing, my links no longer work, and files get dropped for no reason. I have tried tagging photos in iPhoto, and using one Smart Folder for each tagged category. It all works great for a while, but before long, newly tagged photos stop being added into the Smart Folders, and it defeats the whole purpose. Not to mention that iPhoto creates a huge file, and wastes time identifying faces, which is an undesirable feature I can't seem to turn off. I am guessing the whole problem with the iLife suit is that the library coding gets super easily corrupted if you make changes (and I am not even touching any of the files outside of iPhoto, iWeb, etc.) I can't even make aliases to the folders and organize them that way for viewing in screensaver, because Snow Leopard's screen saver can't open the photos in an alias folder. I'm NOT going to duplicate all my folders with different names and arrange them by category. That isn't organizing, that is duplicating, and completely wasting tons of file space. Is there any program available I can get to replace iPhoto so I can cross-reference my photos into multiple categories? And is there a screen saver program I can use to make my own screen savers that can pull files from aliases, or some other referencing system?Â
Is there a patch I can get so that the default screensaver will open photos from an alias in Snow Leopard, the way it always used to? Why is it so difficult to deal with what should be simple, basic programs and file organization? I love my MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard, and I love the professional programs I run on it such as Adobe and Maya, but why is the first party software complete garbage? I know I don't sound like it at the moment, but I'm normally a polite person, I am just really frustrated right now. Just tired of banging my head trying to find ways to get around and outsmart the default programs on this OS, which has been futile, I might add.

May 5, 2012I didn't know where to post this question. When I import photos from my Canon T3i and my iPhone4, the creation date of the photo is the date imported, not the date I took the photo. While in Finder, if I look at the photo information, the creation date is the date the photo was imported (for both the Canon and iPhone photos). I'm trying to understand why this is happening. When I import the photos into iPhoto, the date I took the photo is there. While that seems like the solution, it isn't since I don't import all photos into iPhoto. If I look at the photos on the memory card, the date is correct. The only time the creation date is not correct is when I import on to my iMac or MacBook. I'm using Snow Leopard and have no plans to upgrade to Lion.Â

Apr 26, 2012My MBP(#1) is stuck in grey screen. I've tried 4 or 5 of the steps suggested to get the computer to boot up. I used Target Disk Mode to copy hard disk files to my other MBP(#2), then inserted the Mac OSX install disk, then turned off the MBP(#1) and restarted with the C key held down. Instead of getting the OSX installation, it remained grey and gave me repeating 3-beeping sounds. What does this mean?

IMac :: Snow Leopard Causing Stuck Arrows?
Aug 29, 2009After installing SL yesterday on my iMac, after a few hours, my right/down arrows began "activating" and repeating. At first I thought it was only happening in Finder, but it just came out of sleep while in Safari and was repeating the Submarine echo like crazy. I've restarted and also unplugged the keyboard thinking maybe it just some random error, but nothing. The only "cure" seems to be actually tapping the down/right arrow keys while the glitch is happening.
UPDATE: I'm in the middle of re-installing snow leopard and I used a hot corner to turn the monitor off and about 10 seconds in, the repeating key began again and monitor popped back on. wtf?!
OS X :: Snow Leopard Installation Stuck At Boot Up Screen?
Aug 31, 2009I put the install disc in and went threw the windows, it started installing so I left it for a while, when I come back it has the gray apple and the spiny boot up screen, I thought no problem its just restarting after the install. Now its been like this for almost an hour. Anyone have any ideas, I'm afraid to push the power button fearing it might screw up the install.
