Final Cut Pro X :: Finalizing Auditions Across Entire Timeline?
Sep 3, 2014
I have a 95 minute film in the timeline. There are auditions scattered throughout. In FCP 7 you could select a track with an arrow pointing to the right and perform a command that affected all the clips in that track. My question is, as the title indicates, is there a way to finalize ALL the auditions across the entire timeline? Or do I have to scroll through and finalize each audition separately?

I have looked around and can't find any guides for my particular needs, so maybe someone here can advise me. I am a teacher and would like to make little instructional podcasts that include still images of a process and some narration over them. I need to be able to control how long to make the still images last on screen so that they fit the narration.I also want to know the best way to package it/export it so that it can be emailed or played on mobile phones.
when i search and find the song i want it plays in the finder but when i drag it onto the flim strip it shows solid green and wont play.. just bout the software and am frustrated it wont work...
Is there any way to synchronize clips from the timeline? I understand that there is a way to synchronize from the Project Library but it makes more sense for me to sync from the timeline. If there just isn't a way to sync from timeline, is there a way to put all the clips from the timeline into the Project Library so I can do it there?
I have been using pluralize but wanted to see if I can skip all those extra steps of exporting and importing.I also wanted to see how effective the sync feature is in FCPX 10.1.2
The audio in the timeline is distorted. The clips play well in the browser and the waveforms look ok in the timeline. When I click on the volume line in the timeline it becomes a double yellow line that I don't recall seeing before. This all happened after an auto update to 10.1.2
I'm opening my new project/event in 10.1.2. It upgrades successfully, but stalls (pinwheel and top-gray loading bar stating "Loading "X" Project into the timeline") when trying to load the project into the timeline.
Running latest OS/software, all on a mid-2012 MBP.
I was editing in FCPX and all of a sudden a few clips in my timeline went black. What I mean by that is when I played them back, they were completely black. It was like the footage had gone missing. You name it, I tried all of the obvious things to do from here on in; I replaced and re-timed the footage with a fresh I/O grab from the clips panel. I tried reimporting the clip. I tried re-linking to the source file. I tried re-creating optimised media. Nothing worked. The only thing that worked was transcoding the footage in a different problem with a different filename and then reimporting and then replacing that with the black clip.
I need to revert my timeline back to where it was before it was saved. I made a compound clip and then trimmed it and exported it and then shut down fcp. So, when I opened it back up there was only the compound clip. How to revert back it back to the last time before it was saved?
I updated to final cut 10.1.3 and none of my videos show the waveform in the timeline. How do I get the audio waveforms back? If I bring in a new video it also doesn't show the audio waveforms in the timeline. The waveforms do show in the browser but it is hard to edit them from here.
I'm doing a quick promo. I recorded a rough script VO, organised my clips and music.
I then had the professional voiceover artist record a revised script.
However, I can't simply replace my original script as we have added a couple of things. What I would have done under 7 is lock the background music and video clips in place, remove the VO timeline, and then replace each bit separately. However, I can't do that because the video clips have connected themselves to each other.
I also have shuffled a couple of things around so need to keep the video the same, but move the audio to a different part. I can move the video without moving the audio, but I can't move the audio without moving or deleting the video.
Was poking ignorantly into the features of the project library of a project I had on the timeline. Something I did made the project on the timeline to change in appearance to this:
What I had done to get the appearance of clips to change and what I should do to get the appearance back!

I use FCS 2 Final cut pro 6.0.5, hdv 1080i60 shot on canon xl-h1
When trying to playback the timeline, for what ever reason... crash! Doesn't happen all the time, and not for any particular reason. Also, when I tried to export the project, it got to that magic 7% and crashed. Export settings were as follows:
-Quicktime Conversion -H.264 -FR 30 -Limit:2500 KBs -Key Frame Every 30 -Custom Res:872x480

I have a project where I have applied a vignette to multiple clips(70+) in the timeline. When I added the effect I first applied it to a single clip, adjusted some of the parameters until I was happy and then copied and pasted the effect onto all the clips.
I was happy until I came back to the project and didn't like the amount of vignette I used. how to adjust the vignette on all clips at once? If I adjust the vignette on one of the clips, copy and then paste attributes it pastes the whole effect onto the rest of the clips and 'doubles' the effect as it where. I just want to paste the adjustment I have made.

I have a wav file that I've imported, which sounds completely fine on regular playback but becomes very poor quality when imported into the timeline. I know on FCP7 you had to convert to an AIFF but I've not had this issue before on X.

So I've recently purchased a late 2013 27 inch iMac i7, 32gb ram, and for some weird reason my tracks don't stay synchronized. I always synchronize my videos, 2 tracks, in the beginning but for some odd reason it ends up out of sync towards the end. I tried the detach audio enter realtime method, it worked temporarily but it went back to the weird sync issue.

When I export the sequence I edited with quicktime, the playback video is very different from what I edited on the timeline. The playback has the clips with ins and outs that are way off than what I cut, and some of the clips don't show at all or have changed transitions. However when I play in the timeline in FCP, the sequence is fine, just the way I cut it.
The source of the clips was one long .mov that I cut into clips for the timeline. Everything has gone smoothly but the exported .mov is just so different. How can I get the time codes of the clips to be the same in the exported .movs? I just want the quicktime .mov to represent my edit exactly. can I play within the FCP player window and Log and Capture?
Recently my event clips and timeline clips have turned grey and no video imagery shows unless I pass the cursor over the individual clip. I was close to finishing this project and it plays in the viewer but making adjustments etc seems impossible. FCP is updated and I have restart the computer several times. I have used FCP for 3 years and have never had this problem.

I have been editing compound clips and when I get half way through i notice early clips in the timeline are missing. So if there is clips ABCD in a connected clip, it will be now AC and the other clips are now gone. I've pressed undo until i saw when they were deleted and it seems when i'm selecting clips later in the timeline it selects earlier clips and deletes them with the clips i want to delete. This is causing a major headache as it seems to be random, I can't replicate it on demand, but it happens eventually in ever compound clip I create. I haven't noticed it while editing a project.
ok, yesterday, i installed windows 7, but at the end of the installation where it said "finallizing installation" the screen blacks out and the macbook crashes... Then when i boot up in windows 7, there is a black screen with a tiny gray "_" flashing in the top left corner. The wierd thing is when i boot off the bootcamp partition in parallels, everything works fine... I am using a macbook 5,2 (may 2009) model running leopard.
I'm a PC user at the moment, and my macbook is coming at the end of the month when I'll be turning 18. And one thing I hate about Windows is the Windows Movie Maker, cause it only lets you play one soundtrack playing at the same time. My mate has Adobe Premiere, and it lets you add as many audio tracks you want to play at the same time.
So can iMovie 09 do that?
And while I'm here, does iLife come pre-installed on Macs?
Timeline won't back up because it says there is not enough space on my external drive. This never happened before.I have 10.6.8. I just restored my new hard drive from Timeline. It was an easy restoration. The first time I backed up on Timeline, it said there was not enough space. I do have my external drive partitioned. I thought old backups were deleted when the space was needed.
How come every time I drag something on my timeline I have to render? If I expand or move it on the timeline I have to render again. It's really a pain and I was told it shouldn't be doing this.
Also, I imported my video onto Color to do some correction and when I send it back to Final Cut Pro, it's very small. I tried changing the geometry but it's still not as big as the original.
I have a bunch of photos in the timeline in iMovie HD and want to shorten and lengthen their duration in the movie. Usually I can just drag the edge of the photo to shorten/lengthen it but a setting isn't allowing me do this....does anyone know what that setting is, what I have to change?
I need to create a timeline for a project, it needs to show a list of releases of different products, I also need to be able to create one that shows how these items can run parallel to each other. Is there anything that would be suited to the task? (a free solution is best, I only need to use it this one time).
