Sep 11, 2009how the graphics cards in the MBPs will evolve over the next 6 - 12 months? Is there a sense that the 9400M will be replaced with something better?

Sep 28, 2009I am looking too use Photoshop CS4 and was wondering if it is worth the upgrade to NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 256MB or should I just stick with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M.I am not able too spend any more than the 1999.00 price point so these are my only two options. I need the portability of a laptop otherwise I would go with the iMac. I am sorry if this has been asked before,

Aug 18, 2009I am going to college this year to study Graphic Design and i am looking to purchase a MBP 15". I have read a couple of other threads which cover similar questions however i am not truly satisfied with the answers i have read.
My MBP will have to run the following programs on a regular basis: Photoshop, Bridge, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash. It will also have to run basic tasks such as word processing, internet surfing and email. Finally i would also like to install parallels and XP on the machine just in case an work or applications need to be run on windows. Obviously all of these applications will not be running simultaneously however there is a strong chance 2 or 3 maybe running at the same time. My Imac deals with this without problems, will the MBP be the same?

i used to use only the 9600m gt for gaming as 9400m was handling everything, has better battery life and run cooler.
but i notice when i'm playing 1080p videos the 9600m gt perform better.
ok, 1080p youtube 9400m no problem at all.
1080p played on vlc 9400m laggy sometimes. but 9600m gt perform well.
1080p played on plex 9400m no problem at all.
that's why i think the new auto switching graphic cards on the new macbook pro is cool.
sometimes i'm on 9600m gt and decide to take the mac to the living area and forget that i was on the dedicated card while using on battery.

Jul 14, 2009graphic card used in 15" MBP. Performance in digits from here shows that the 9400M is worst than older brother - 8600M GT. Apple wants extra 300$ for "better performance" of 15" MBP.Is it worth it for me? I haven't play any game since 8 years. Now im using 24" 2.8GHz & 20" 2.0GHz iMacs, but i need some easy to carry computer. New MBP will be my main machine for work on apps from adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and once in a year After Effects to make video from vacation).

Well, I asked her if I can trade only the HD so that I can get the graphic card and RAM that she barely uses (no gamings), so I was wondering, should I swap HD or buy the new one? Jul 17, 2009I am just wondering if the 9600m will be better if I am using a large external monitor or multiple external monitors or will the 9400m be basically the same. The only reason I am not jsut getting the 2.66 version is that I do not want to be tempted to game in college. I will also be getting the employee discount 25% from a friend so the 2.53 will cost about $1720 with tax and applecare and the 2.66 will cost $1920 with tax and applecare. Also I am just wondering for those who do not game or do 3-D editing... how often do you use your 9600m?

Feb 17, 2010Long story short my Uni is buying me a mac. I've got to order it asap so can't wait any more for an update. They are putting �1150 towards it. I intend to use it for various things including running final cut pro.
What I want to know is will the 2.5Ghz model with only the 9400m graphics card and a 7200rpm hard drive run final cut pro well, or will I notice a hell of a lot of difference from the higher spec machines with the 9600m card and bigger processors?
I worked out that I would have to put in an extra �241 for the 2.8 or �136 for the 2.66, so it's not a great deal of difference, but I am not rich and I don't want to waste my money.

Mar 19, 2010I have Macbook with GMA 950. I have Starcraft 2 beta (don't ask me to give you the beta ID and Password), and I have been playing around with it on Windows Bootcamp. It fairly works well in lowest settings besides some lagging with 6 fps when there is a big battle. I am planning to get new Macbook Pro today, and do you think Medium settings will work on the nVidia 9400?

Jun 1, 2010The 9400M was in older Macbook Pros and I've seen many videos where people run crysis on high/very high and have pretty good FPS. The laptops arent as fast as the newer ones, but yet my MBP (specs down below) which is faster, can only run crysis on medium at around 30 FPS, unless i wanted 5 FPS with high. The only reasoning for this, to me at least, is that the 330M chip is not as good. Is this the case? If so, why the hell did the graphics chip get downgraded? Here is a link to one of the vids I was talking about: [URL:....] This guy is using the demo for his vid. when i use the demo, it doesnt even give me the option of using very high settings, and when i'm on high, my screen flashes in and out, i get random lines across the screen, and then my computer freezes.

Oct 31, 2008So I got a new Late 08 MBP 2.8 earlier this week. Everything has been great except that occasionally (once or twice an hour) my laptop screen will go black for about 200-300ms and then come back. Often only the top 1/2 or top 3/4 of the screen will go black. I was worried it was the LCD, but today I switched over to the 9600gt for the first time and the problem seems to have gone away. I generally code all day and havent been doing anything intense when the flickers happen, the CPU/GPU temps are also low.
I have an external monitor hooked up. Ive only noticed the problem when the external monitor was hooked up but then again 90% of the time I use the computer it has the external plugged in.
Also does anyone know if the 9400m's 256mb of memory is shared with the main RAM, ie if I am running on the 9400 do I only have access to about 3.74 gigs of ram?

Is it true that the only difference comes when one is play 3D games which requires rendering? Where the number of frame rate per second is important.

Mar 23, 2009I have a sleep problem with my MacBook (9400M White). I recently resolved a problem where it wouldn't go to sleep by itself if left inactive on battery power (regardless of energy settings) by resetting the SMC and PRAM/NVRAM but now something else has popped up. Now, whenever I cycle my battery down to past the low battery warning popup, it just eventually completely dies. Shouldn't it go to sleep first? That's what my old iBook G4 would do. I doubt it's something related to the SMC or PRAM/NVRAM since I just reset those. What else can I do? I'm pretty sure my MacBook should still have enough juice go to sleep.

Jan 13, 2010Im thinking about getting a mbp 13" and i was wondering how well it edits and renders 1080p video. i currently edit and render on my 2007 mb and it takes 3 hours just for the render, plus it freezes for a few seconds here and there scrolling through the video. so we will say 4 hours total 1 hour to edit 7 min clip and 3 hours or more to render it. what my question is does anyone out there edit and render 1080p video with there 9400m and if so about how long does it take. and how long the video was that you rendered. the reason im asking only about 1080p is that my mb can work fine with 720p and it has the igpu for intel the x3100. also i mainly shoot in 1080p/60 frames per sec.

It has updated 'forceware' and installs without problems. I noticed better performance in games than i was getting with the stock apple drivers. These are for the new late 2008 aluminum Macbooks with the geforce 9400m chipset.

I have a MacBook Aluminium, Intel Core 2 Due 2.0GHz with 2GB Ram and NVIDIA 9400M. The game plays incredibly slowly and keeps jumping, like the refresh rate is so slow. I have downloaded the latest driver from NVIDIA but still it plays slow. Is my problem here the lack of RAM and I have a dual core processor which is above the requirements? I thought the good video card and processor would be enough? A lot of games seem to have minimum requirements much more than my mac, its not ever that old and seems outdated already.

May 16, 2009I'm a PC user at the moment, and my macbook is coming at the end of the month when I'll be turning 18. And one thing I hate about Windows is the Windows Movie Maker, cause it only lets you play one soundtrack playing at the same time. My mate has Adobe Premiere, and it lets you add as many audio tracks you want to play at the same time.
So can iMovie 09 do that?
And while I'm here, does iLife come pre-installed on Macs?

May 1, 2012I have a macbook pro 13 inch purchased in 2009. My HDD died so I took it to an Apple dealer and they replaced it and upgraded me to 10.6.8, when I took it home I found that some of the applications I had received for free were now missing, and after a few days I was having the same problems with my HDD (folder with ? mark appearing) so I took it back. They told me that I had a virus? They then gave me the apps that had been missing and upgraded me again to 10.7.3 however it is still freezing regardless of whether I am on the internet so its not my connection. I also went to open itunes and it told me it could not find a folder and to choose a location. When I chose Music - itunes - it states I can't and to choose another folder.

Jan 2, 2011After I replace my super drive with Hitachi 500G 2.5mm HDD, I can not boot except I hold the option key and manually selecting OS X to boot. I think if I am able to reset HDD as 1st boot device as HDD like modifing BIOS in windows machine, it might help, how I don't know how.
