After using the Disk Utility - I received this message:
Repairing permissions for Macintosh HD
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Have just downloaded Adobe Flash and went to do permissions where I found the file "install_ flash_ player_ osx." and also the icon with "Flash Player" directly underneath. These are listed under the list of drives to select on left side of pane. Is this normal? Do I need to do permissions? On HD?

On the advice of my friend he told me to completely wipe out my machine and reinstall Mac OS 10.4. I have since reinstalled SL 10.4 and downloaded bootcamp. However, I do not see a boot icon in my applications or utilities folder, but I do see a disk utilities icon.
When I click that and click the only hard drive that is there and try and partition it, the slide bar will not work for me to divide the hard drive into the size i want and none of the fields or dropdown boxes will work.
I have a dual 2ghz G5 that i wanted to clean off and start fresh. I wiped the drive with disk utility and tried to install os from tiger install dvd. G5 keeps hanging at install and also at disk utility. I've swapped both the osX install dvd disk and the entire dvd drive, but still hangs at os load or utility.

I just install new boot disk SSD. And move home folder to HDD. Every thing is fine. But when I open itunes this warning pops up- do not have enough access privileges for this operation. My HDD can't verify disk permissions it greys out. Perhaps that hdd is not bootable disk anymore. my new SSD disk 120GB is system boot disk now.

Is there a way of just continuing with the existing backup on this disk? I can look at the old backup from time machine by selecting the older backup manually but this option is most wasteful of space. It's the same disk connected to the same machine, why can't it just carry on?!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to re-partition (i removed the first one so i could make it bigger). When i try and make a 100gb partition through bootcamp, after working for an hour, it says this:
Quote:
The disk cannot be partitioned because some files can not be moved.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS X Extended (Journal) volume. Restore your information to the disc and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
What does this mean and how do i do this? I opened disk utility and can't work it out.
Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to fomat it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
I don't have anything to backup to, so what can I do?
My time Machine isnt set up so i cant back up my files. i read on the apple forms that idefrag works and solves that problem. I payed money, and defraged my computer and i still get that error msg!

I have downloaded two programs "Skype" and printer driver software and no matter how many times I click and drag to the applications folder (as my instructions tell me to do) the programs remain on the top right hand of my desktop. I have tried using "Help" and even surfed some of the Apple tutorials...by all counts I have found I am doing it correctly but its not working.

I got iMac on my office. There is network issue on my iMac Desktop. When my computer remains idle for long time (sleep) and wakes up again, I can ping into the same network device (say 192.168.0.0 network) but I am not able to ping into other sub net (say 10.2.0.0, printer network).
Restarting iMAc resolves the problem or unplugging the cable and connect to some other Laptops and connect back to iMAc works again (I mean I can access other networks again). I turned of auto-negotiation and tried renew DHCP Address but it still doesn't solve my problem. Restarting the computer and unplugging the cable and plug-in back is not a solution for me.
I downloaded a program called "Clean My Mac" . I got rid of things that were unused. I don't know why this happened except I wasn't thinking but now all languages are gone (didn't think at the time that would be an issue) but...I have a son taking Greek and I had to print out a test for him. I didn't notice it but it did not print out in Greek. How do I get back languages without having to re-install the OS?

After I erase the hard disk it shows 74.5gb free, almost. It says there is 42.3mb of space being used by 2 files which I understand are used for read write or partitioning or whatever.
When I then leave disk utility and go to the actual installer, the destination disk (untitled - 74.5gb) shows only 73.9gb free space. What is taking up an additional 500mb of space on the hard drive?
Apple support told me that somehow the disk has been altered and I lost space on the disk or I am now using a seperate partition that isn't showing up. Disk utility shows only one partition with 74.5gb free space. He told me I can find information about how to 'merge' the disk on the apple support section under troubleshooting articles for disk utility. I have been unable to locate this information.
I am trying to repair my disk so I can install bootcamp, but when I reboot my machine and run disk utility and choose repair disk, it hangs. Does anyone have any ideas ?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a 2TB Western Digital My Book Studio FW800 external that has 5 partitions, connected to my 2011 iMac. I had help doing the partitions and don't really remember the reasoning, but one is just for my SuperDuper! backup, one is Miscellaneous, one for movie clips off my camcorder, one for misc scanned photo's and one for my genealogy research. I back up using Time Machine to a Time Capsule and also to this WD hard drive with SuperDuper!Â
Recently I'm getting a pop up message that "Mac OS X can't repair the disk "Genealogy"'. And it needs to be reformatted. It's become a read only disk. When I look in Disk Utility it shows all the partitions as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" EXCEPT for the one in question. I also noticed that there are a lot of files with "date created" being the same date in 1969! These files may be letters I've written or photo's I added to that partition within the last few years.Â
I think I have to completely reformat the entire external hard drive to repair this, but I want to make sure. Because it's going to be a major hassle backing it all up to another external (having to get one first) and then figuring out how to make the files that have turned "read only" in that one partition, back to their original state!  Does this sound right, that I have to reformat the entire external hard drive? And how do I get the read-only files back to their original state.

I get this question mark along with a folder when starting up. I tried holding down the option key when turning on the power and then I get an internet recovery along with a globe. I click on the arrow below it and it takes maybe 15 minutes to start up. Then i get this disk utilities screen. I'm now unable to do anything. When going into disk utility, disk 0 shows with Mac OS X base system underneath it. All the clickable buttons are faded out. Is there something wrong with the hardrive? and where could i get this fixed? There isn't a warranty on it.

Is it something I should heed and what to do in that case?
I had windows vista installed but suddenly the audio decided to become faulty, after spending a day trying to fix it i realized I have a windows 7 install disc so i might as well just replace vista with windows 7. I didnt take care of vista or ever register it so it became quite a task to upgrade so i just deleted the partition and went to create a new one and just do a full install of windows 7.
I made the partition but the wrong format, so i removed it through boot camp assistant and created another, except now it keeps giving me the "back up the disk and use disk utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using boot camp assistant again" Now, I'd love to do this, except I have no idea what I'm doing and WHY this error has occured. After becoming frustrated I switched from my imac to my macbook pro and received the same error when trying to create a partition. So any help on exactly what I need to do would be a HUGE help. I only use windows for music production (I know, seems backwards, but I use Sony Acid and FL Studio so I'm stuck with Windows)
I'm trying to repair my hard drive. I restarted from the OS X Mac Mini install CD (holding down the letter C when I heard the chime), opened Disk Utility from the Utilities folder, selected my hard drive image, but the "verify disk" and "repair disk" options are grayed out. I'm at a loss as to how to proceed.

Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again. Now I've backed up my disk and launched disk utility, and try to follow above directions here but the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) area is grayed out and when I click apply after highlighting the MacBook are (in blue), it errors out and says the disk is out of space.
