Applications :: Unable To Join Partitions / Formate And Merge Partition To Save Space?

Apr 15, 2008

Basically, I have 2 mac partitions and a windows 7 partition. The problem is the partitions are in order of OSX, Windows 7, OSX Partition 2. I keep trying to format the final partition which is osx partition 2 and join it with my main installation partition OSX but it wont let me. I really want to add that extra space over and not have it as a separate partition but I dont know how.

Applications :: How To Merge The Original And Modified Libraries To Save Space

Sep 24, 2009

Inside my iphoto library my "modified" folder weighs 4GB. Is there a way to fuse both Originals and Modified folders?

And dont need the originals since most of the modification I do my pictures is to change orientation. That way I could save more space.

I love iphoto. I use Aperture, bridge and photoshop for work but for my family pictures, iphoto is great. What makes me nervous about iphoto is the possibillity of losing my 36GB worth of pictures (like HDD dying or the library getting corrupt). I manually backup the iphoto library to an external drive and keep a copy in my imac at work. Does Time machine backs up the iphoto library.

OS X :: Cannot Join Partitions On Disk Utility

Jul 23, 2009

I am trying to make a single partition with Mac OS Journaled but Disk Utility won't let me. I currently have 2 partitions: MacHD with 80Gb and partition B with 3,35Gb (Partition where I used to have XP with BootCamp). I finished with XP and erased that partition to become Mac OS Journaled. Now I try to have a single partition but I couldn't. On the Partition tab of Disk Utility, when I select the whole machine (FUJISTSU MHW2120BH) the option Partition is dimmed and won't work.

I also tried iPartition, but it tells me: To make changes to this disk you should either boot from an external drive, use Target Disk Mode with another Mac, or create a bootable CD/DVD. You can create a bootable CD/DVD by running Coriolis CDMaker, which should be available from you distributor. I thought my instalation DVDs would work as bootable, but: I tried with the Tiger instalation DVDs but it makes me chose one of the partitions to format and won't let me do both at once.

OS X Mavericks :: How To Merge Two Partitions Into One / All Areas Are Grayed Out

Jun 6, 2014

how do I merge two partitions into one; all areas are greyed out on iMac (late 2013 model i7 3 TB 8 gb RAM).Created a second partition on iMac (Mavericks). After a few days I decided to delete that newly created partition and have been trying to merge it to create only ONE partition as it was in the original setup. However, disc utility shows everything greyed out and there is NO option to change anything. I have erased everything on that partition and thought "that should do it" -

OS X Mavericks :: How To Merge Two Partitions Using Disk Utility

I want to merge two OS X partition into one. In both of them it's installed OS X Mavericks but I don't need anymore the first partition.

Here's a screenshot of the partition table

I need to merge the 123.3 GB partition with the 34.9GB. Using Disk utility, if I erase the partition number 2, then can i merge the empty space (formatted with Mac OS X journaled) into the partition number 1, without loosing any file?

Applications :: SuperDuper For Coloned Backups - Save To Same Partition?

Aug 13, 2009

I'm going to get an external drive to use with my MBP and Time Machine. I'm also going to store clone backups on an external drive that I'm going to keep away from my house. I'm planning on using SuperDuper for the clone backups. I'm going to have image backups of other Windows machines on that external drive as well. So, will I have to create a special partition for the Mac to store SuperDuper backups? Or can it save them to the same partition where I'm storing my Windows image backups?

OS X :: How To Save Disk Image Win 7 Partitions

Dec 19, 2010

I'd like to save individual disc images of the OSX and Win 7 installs on two partitions on my drive so that I can restore the operating systems if I need to. How can I do this since both have different file systems? Do I use Carbon Cloner? How do I restore the Windows partition if I do this?

Also:

I installed Windows 7 32-bit Home edition on a 200gb partition using Bootcamp. I am installing and tweaking the Windows installation and would like to take a snapshot of the system after I have installed all programs and settings.

Applications :: How To Free Some Space To Extend Windows Partition

Jun 4, 2010

I've currently got a Windows XP partition and a Mac partition. Thing is, I allocated too little to Windows XP, just about 20gb. I don't want to go through the hassle of installing the whole thing again so is it possible I free up some space in my Mac partition and just use some partition software in Windows to extend it's size?

Applications :: Restoring Partition And Losing Hard Drive Space?

Sep 26, 2010

I've installed and uninstalled windows couple of times through the Bootcamp. when installing the Windows 7, it asks to format the partition so that the Windows can be installed. My questions comes here, I also restored the partition couple of times for no reason and whenever I restored it, I noticed that the space used by Windows never gets added back up to Mac Partition. So does that mean the space used by Windows will be just floating around? To simplify my question: After restoring the Windows partition, the space used by windows, will it be added back up to the Mac partition(to 1 partition)?

OS X :: Multiple Partitions On My Mac - Moving Disk Space

Jan 19, 2010

I purchased my mac from a friend of a friend a while back. It runs great and there are just a few custom things the previous owner did that have not caught up to me: the available disk space in Leopard is almost completely used up. There are two other drives (or partitions I believe they are called), each of which has roughly 25GB available. Does anyone know how I can get this free space in the other partitions transferred to my main leopard os?

OS X Yosemite :: No Partitions And Can't Create New Partition

Dec 9, 2014

I just got a new Macbook Pro Retina 2014. I enabled FileVault on the startup process. But after a while I encountered the bug in which FileVault never finishes the encryption because it asks for power connection. Unable to disable FileVault, I decided to do a fresh install. So I booted up recovery mode, and tried to erase the partition. An error came up:" This Core Storage operation is not allowed on a sparse logical volume group", and the partition disappeared.

Now, if I choose the main drive, the + option is disabled, and I just can't create a partition. I'm currently unable to use this computer at all right now.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, Mac OS X (10.0.x)

Hardware :: BootCamp Expired - Merge / Erase XP Partition Back?

Jan 7, 2008

I have XP installed in my Intel Macbook Pro in the separate partition created by boot camp. Recently while I was running on XP the computer crashed badly and XP system seemed to have been damaged and I can't boot as XP anymore. I would like to simply erase the XP partition and merge it with the main drive. But the problem is that Boot Camp got expired and I can't use the application to do that. Can anyone tell me how I can do that?? I am guessing that Disk Utility would be the one to use but I want to make sure I know what I am doing before I screw up anything.

Windows On Mac :: Multiple Partitions On USB Hard Drive - Active Partition

Dec 14, 2009

Just a quick rundown of what I'm trying to do here:I have a 1 TB external USB SimpleDrive hard drive that is currently partitioned into three partitions, two formatted with FAT32 and one formatted with HFS+ for Time Machine. I learned how to enable Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard's NTFS read-write capability today and so I no longer need to keep my first two partitions as FAT32 (especially since I have files larger than 4 GB I would like to store on them). I have data on the first FAT32 partition that I would like to transfer to the second FAT32 partition once I have reformatted it as NTFS whereby I will then be able to reformat the first FAT32 partition to NTFS without losing my data.I have nothing important on the second FAT32 partition, but when I opened Disk Management in Administrative Tools in Windows 7, I found that the second FAT32 partition is currently set as the active partition of that volume. When I right-clicked and asked to Format that partition exclusively, I received the following

Applications :: Unable To Export IMovie 09 Project To External Hd / No Space Left?

Dec 28, 2010

I am trying to export a two hour movie to watch on dvd after editing for 4 months, and was running on 12gb left on my macbook. I then tried to export it HD (8gb) and it eventually failed, saying it had no space left. Even though the movie wasnt exported, it took my 12gb left down to 4gb, so I tried high quality exporting, and it almost finished but failed right at the end, complaining of no space, and even when the file wasnt where I asked it to be it still took my memory away, now leaving me with 400mb. I am so annoyed, and

I want to know if I can export the movie to my external harddrive (plug in usb) as an mp4 file, and if so how? This would be a HUGE help as I dont want to have wasted so much time!

OS X :: Unable To Merge Subtitles With Movies / Submerge Not Working

Aug 1, 2009

I've been using Submerge for a while to merge subtitles to some movies. It's been working fine. But today I got a problem. I tried several times, with different movies, to merge subtitles, but it wouldn't work. The software renders the subtitles, I can watch it with Submerge, but when I try to export it as a flatten movie ou mpeg4, the subtitles are not there when I use the file in my DivX Compatible DVD Player. It was working until yesterday. In VLC they appear, but in a separated window (weird!)

I've installed PEnGUIn Encoder MP4 this morning (and updated its binaries). Could it be related? Did anyone get this issue, too? What should I do? Any guesses?

OS X :: Changing Partitions - Time Machine Will Be Reinstall If I Change My Partitions?

Mar 7, 2010

I have an iMac 2.4ghz with a 320g hd, that I partitioned 50/270 when I installed Leopard. I read somewhere to have the opp system partitioned and I have been kicking myself in the rear ever since. Too many apps and files want to run next to the opp system, so I'm starting over.I used time machine for a backup of the system (both partitions are showing) on my 1 TB iomega external hard drive (minimax). I partitioned the external 500/500, time machine/additional storage. So that is what I'm working with, now for the question:With my backup complete, if I do a clean install to the internal hard drive (320g) in order to remove the 50g opp/sys partition and just have one 320g internal hd; will my time machine be able to restore to a clean 320 without having the 50/270gig partition setup? If so will this be a somewhat simple process?
