Applications :: SuperDuper For Coloned Backups - Save To Same Partition?

Aug 13, 2009

I'm going to get an external drive to use with my MBP and Time Machine. I'm also going to store clone backups on an external drive that I'm going to keep away from my house. I'm planning on using SuperDuper for the clone backups. I'm going to have image backups of other Windows machines on that external drive as well. So, will I have to create a special partition for the Mac to store SuperDuper backups? Or can it save them to the same partition where I'm storing my Windows image backups?

ITunes :: Save Multiple Backups For One Device?

Jun 12, 2012

I manage multiple iPads here at my school and had a question about iTunes backup. We want to have multiple backups from the past for each device so that we can restore the device from an old backup if something goes wrong. We have over 180 iPads so I need something quick and automated. We are also using a Mac Server if that helps any.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

ITunes :: How To Save Multiple Backups Of IPhone

Jun 18, 2012

This weekend I purchased a new 13" MacBook Pro. In the process of transferring data from my old MacBook Pro to the new one I almost lost all of the data from my iPhone. In the process I realized that by default iTunes only keeps one instance of the backup data - the most recent one.To avoid such a near miss in the future and to add some healthy redundancy into my life, I would like to be able to keep at least one additional backup copy of my iPhone data. Elsewhere it has been suggested to periodically copy the backup folder to another location. This seems terribly inefficient. Is there a more Apple-like way to create and manage multiple backups of my iPhone and iPad data?

iPhone 4, iOS 5, iPhone 4s

Hardware :: Using Time Machine On Two Units / Unable To Save Backups On Both?

May 26, 2009

I have a time capsule at home and I am thinking about hooking up a hard drive to my network at work for time machine. Can my computer use time machine on both units? I'm sure incremental backups wont be saved on both. For example if I make two changes to a file at work and then go home. I wouldnt be able to go back to those two changes, but it would have the original from a older backup right?

Windows On Mac :: How To Save Disc Image Of 7 Partition

Dec 19, 2010

I installed Windows 7 32-bit Home edition on a 200gb partition using Bootcamp. I am installing and tweaking the Windows installation and would like to take a snapshot of the system after I have installed all programs and settings.

I used Acronis True Image 2011 on my previous Dell laptop to take a disc image of my installation then used that on subsequent reinstallations using an Acronis boot disc and disc image accessed from a USB hard drive.

How can I reinstall the disc image of an Aronis True Image partition on a Macbook Pro 13" 2010 if part of the drive has OSX? Could I boot from an Acronis boot CD then reinstall the Windows partition on the MBP?

OS X :: How To Backup SuperDuper And CCC

Mar 9, 2010

I am trying to back up my 2 year old Mini (160GB drive, 90GB used, Core 2 Duo chip at 2.0GHz). I have used Carbon Copy Cloner but found that it is extremely slow (4+ hours) backing up my 90GB of used disk space to a disk image file on an USB hard drive.

Hardware :: Using CCC Or Superduper

Apr 24, 2009

I have searched the forum for a method of making a complete bootable clone of my hard disk. Just about every one seems to recommend CCC or Superduper!. From what I gather, after using either one of the programs, the system will boot, but no one has indicated whether all of the programs will still run. Since OS X is UNIX based, I was led to believe that programs are referenced to the original mounted disk they were installed on. Since the new disk cannot have the exact same name as any other mounted disk I will have to use a name other than Mackintosh HD to clone the original disk to the new one. I also have a concern that on my current boot disk is Windows XP running under parallels. Will these programs also copy the Windows partition (NTFS) as well?

MacBook Air :: Backup Strategy (Just Using SuperDuper)

I do not backup my MacBook as often as my iMac because most of my content creation is on the iMac. I am thinking of just using the same strategy as I currently use on my MacBook. What strategies are you using?

OS X :: Cloning FW800 Drives With CCC Or SuperDuper

Feb 20, 2009

I have Western Digital Studio II (2x1TB, configured as 2TB). As I don't feel secure and wanted to make a backup of this HDD, I bought an identical HDD for backup.

Questions:

1) If I were to get a chance to start over, can I configure these two drives as a RAID cluster, so that whatever written on 1st disk, automatically mirrored to 2nd disk? Bear in mind, I'm using FW800 for both HDD in daisy-chained setup.

2) How reliable is RAID mirroring (software in leopard) using FW800 external drives, as it may subject to different 'connection/attachment' time to my iMac. Internal drives always on at the same time.

3) I tried to use CCC to clone the disk, the sustained speed is disappointingly at 30MB/sec read and write. If I did a copy from my internal HDD to external disk, I get easily 50-60 MB/sec.

OS X :: Changed MBP In April / Keep Backup Made By SuperDuper?

Jul 28, 2010

Before I got rid of my SR MBP (2007 model) running Leopard in April, I used SuperDuper to create a clone backup on an external hard drive. Moreover, I used Time Machine to make a backup on an additional drive. When I got the MBP 2010 model (running Snow Leopard), I used migration assistant to move the stuffs originated from my SR MBP to the MBP 2010. It has been 2.5 months and things "seem" to be running fine. Is it ok to remove the backup made by Super Duper and use the drive for other purposes? (For example, clone the new MBP HD or use it to backup my PC, etc). Can you think of any situation that I should still keep the backup made by Super Duper?

OS X :: Time Machine Backups Missing / Unable To Find Backups

Sep 30, 2008

My Time Machine has been making the usual regular backups for a few months onto my Time Capsule. I just found that all the backups prior to about a week ago have vanished. It's not a disaster (I think) as I assume that the current backups reflect what's on my iMac (I haven't had to delete files from it yet).

Where did they go? Why did they go?

A possible connection: My TC is 500GB; my iMac 1TB. I recently put extra files for temporary use onto the iMac hard drive - Time Machine said (in effect) 'that's too much, try removing certain folders from the backup'. I excluded said folder and things seemed okay, but it would be at around the time I did that that my old backups have gone.

OS X :: Unable To Find Backups / Time Machine Backups Gone

Nov 4, 2009

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem with the Time Machine. I bought a 500gb Time Capsule last July and it has been running perfectly until a few days agp. I noticed that all my backups were no where to be seen (when entering Time Machine on my MBP) and that it was doing a full backup.. The backup took the guts of 36 hours.

I've come home today to find that all backups are gone again and it is doing another full backup!!!Any ideas what is wrong here?

OS X :: Installing Leopard Back On Original HD / SuperDuper Unable To Perform Operation

Aug 7, 2010

I'm planning of sending in my white macbook to AppleCare for a few repairs regarding the white casing (cracks) but do not want to send in my Western Digital 500GB Hard Drive.

I called AppleCare and they said they prefer it when you send in the original hard drive, for whatever reason they stated. My personal reason why I don't want to send in my 500GB Hard Drive is that I have a ton of files in there that are important and don't have another 300+ hard drive lying around to back everything up. Another reason is that my Leopard Family Pack disc I purchase years ago is at my parent's house in New York and I live in California, so getting it would be a huge hassle considering it's somewhere in boxes of storage and my folks are in Venice till the 15th of June.

Look, essentially what I'm freaking out over is that I've heard many cases that when you send in your computer to applecare, its not uncommon to get a macbook back with an erased hard drive.

I just don't wanna deal with the hassle. So am looking to avoid it altogether. Doing so bytaking out my 500GB HD and popping in the original 80GB HD that the Mac came with. I thought I had Leopard in there but when I put in the 80GB HD in the Macbook and turned on the Mac, a confused faced folder came on and turned off.

I want to send in my Macbook with the 80GB HD and that HD to have Leopard on it...so I decided to do the same method I used when I transferred everything from my 80GB HD to my 500GB HD when I first purchased it.

I used SuperDuper! application, free version...but it didn't work.

I set it up to "Copy: Mac HD to Untitled" (Untitled was the name of the 80GB since I erased it when I got my 500GB HD hoping to use it for Time Machine but never did)

I tried this twice, each time taking about 2 hours to transfer and copy to the untitled HD. I tried "back up all files" & "back up user files." But after this process was done and I popped in the untitled HD into the Mac I continued to get the same confused folder face..twice.

Any help on the matter is really appreciated as I'm highly considering not even sending my Macbook in with the 500GB HD to completely avoid any possible frustation if that HD was to magically erased.

Applications :: Can't Delete Timemachine Backups

Apr 21, 2009

Timemachine is currently using up a lot of my diskspace for silly backups i don't really need. So I tried deleting some files. When I saw you can't just drag the backupthing wherever you want, I did some research. Here I learned you're supposed to go into timemachine and delete the backup through the 'gearsign'. I tried this, but it does not seem to work. My external HD just makes noise, but nothing happens. I tried a really small file (20kb), to check if it was the size that mattered. Nope. It won't even delete that. What am I supposed to do? I have other files on the external HD that I don't want to ruin, that's why i'm not formatting.

1 email attachments from web mail (eg Yahoo).I can't see how to do this -- is it possible? my current iPhoto set-up has managed to duplicate all my files. I see Events twice. shared access for all users on this computer there must be a way of doing this but I cannot find it. I see the ability to share across different computers - like mounting a remote file system - but that doesn't seem to give what I want and in any case restricts ownership priviledges to only the 1 owner. accessibility of backups. I believe iPhoto backs up the whole file that contains many photos - this is a "black box" that only iPhoto can access. I have a concern about this, it just feels less accessible than a series of JPGs. tell me I'm being irrational? I like this Application but the above points are just holding me back from committing to it.

Applications :: Can I Continue Using Old Backups After I Do A Clean Install Of 10.6

I've been looking for an answer to this but am not having any luck.

I currently backup my macbook pro using time machine. I am planning on doing a clean install of snow leopard so I can get rid of all the crap I've downloaded on my machine. haha.

Can I use my old time machine backup without it creating a new database to add to? I'd like to be able to go back in time and get those files from my previous installation while adding my new backups from my clean install.

Is that possible? How do I ensure that when I go to do this it doesn't delete my old backups?
