I tried to install gimp, but when I click on the gimp icon on the dock, I get a little white box, with very small text in the top left corner "bash-3.2$" the little white box seems to open another program; X11, but I dont get gimp.

I have Xquartz 2.3.2.
is it compatible yet? i've heard horror stories about how the two didn't work together and bad things happened...
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have used Gimp for about one year with no issues. I updated gimp to newer version 2.6 and now I can not get past errors.
Here is the scenario, then the supporting information;
- I updated gimp, then have 'The application gimp-2.6 quit unexpectedly' error
- X11 was up to date from the MAC side, so I updated to the latest version of X11 from Xquartz, then have same gimp error AND 'The application dbus-launch quit unexpectedly'.
- I removed both with AppZapper and loaded X11 from my Apple software disc with no improvement, I still have both errors.
- I tried an older version of Gimp and it did not work (no menu bar) and I think it was 2.4.7(?)
So with apple standard X11 and fresh install of gimp 2.6 I still am unable to start gimp. Nor will X11 open when I click the icon in apps folder.
I want to import some new brushes into the Gimp Tiger Program on my Mac osx.
I have found out how to download the brushes and to which folder I have to drag them but when I want to drag them the computer refuses and gives the following notice:
Every time I open Gimp 2.8 (Mac Package) and try to edit text, it crashes. I Have the same issue with Photoshop CS5. Here is the error log using Gimp 2.8:

This issue is really driving me nuts. I reinstalled PS CS5 several times, emptied font cache and check the harddisk for issues. No change at all. (aLmost) Every time I want to edit a text area in Gimp or Photoshop the programs crashes.

What's a good image editing program I can use on a G3 that can run under 128mb that isn't GIMP? I need something that's like Photoshop. What is a version of Photoshop that can run under 128mb by the way? What is an alternative? I don't care if it's slow, it just needs to run okay on its own.

This is what it said: "The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access privileges." I went to my account and successfully installed it. View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed the software updates pushed to me the week of May 7, 2012 (installed them May 12th) and now cannot open certain web pages (examples www.cnn.com and www.ancestry.com) but am able to open others (ex. www.harrynorman.com). I installed an update to safari, one for security and another I cannot recall. Rebooted (twice) and still having the same problem. I have a Macbook running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.7.

I have just installed Maverick. When I use Safari and try and open a Pdf file from a webpage I get a black screen and tells me to download Adobe. I have reinstalled adobe reader but still don't get anywhere. I can open any pdf files I have previously stored or have in downloads or in documents.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got the Agua version and I'm on the newest version of Snow Leopard. I would post a screen shot if I knew how to. But when I open OpenOffice in Applications you get the start screen where you usually get to choose between the different programs. First of all on the text "Welcome to openoffice", the bottom half of "Welcome to" is missing. And then all the icons below are kind of stacked onto each other so you can only access some of them and its impossible to see what the icons does, cause the text for them also run into each other.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSome weeks ago, I installed OS X Yosemite, as shown on my App Store, that was a "System Update available for my IMac 2009". Followed all the steps, normally and installed it as I did many other times ago (with the Maverick, Mountain Lion, OS X).
Just after the installation, I noticed that every single folder or program that depends on "Apple", stopped working.
Examples: Office package opens normally, so as Firefox. But, IPhoto, ITunes, Safari and App Store itself do not.
When trying to reinstall Yosemite or return to the one I had before, using App Store became impossible. Even the "Apple Icon" on the top left corner does not work. I click, it flashes, just IF it was ready to open, but nothing happens, seams that have something stopping the "loading process" of the software.

Installed Snow Leopard and lost the ability to double click to open folders in Finder. I can right click to open folders but prefer to double click. Any ideas ? I can double click in other applications with no problems.

I have installed UnrarX a couple of times with no errors in the installation process, however the application does not appear in the applications folder or any where else and cannot find it to open .rar files.
I fixed the issue by simply copying the UnrarX app from my MacBookPro but would like to find out what is going on. I have been told by my friend that she has had this issue before.

I recently upgraded to a hosted Exchange solution and they offer a download of Entourage 2008 that will allow Exchange Server interaction. When I loaded that version over top of my install, Entourage will not open. It gives me an error about the identity not being able to open the item.
Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.
I have recently purchased a MacBook, so i'm new to the platform. I believe the main "office" type package is iWork which will open DOC, PPT and XLS files. My question is should iWork come pre-installed or on the Mac Applications DVD? I have just loaded in the Mac Applications DVD and it seems to have "Macintosh HD" on it, which i've now installed. But no iWork.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe other day I noticed an Opera icon on my dock, clicked and not surprisingly, Opera appeared. I have never installed Opera and Im the only one who has ever touched my macbook. I quit out of it, and it disappeared off my dock, which means not only had it installed itself but run all by itself too. So I went straight to my apps folder to find and delete it and it wasn't there. A spotlight search came up with nothing too? How is this even possible with the permission system of OS X? Any ideas on how to find out if/where it is installed?

for example, if i am using safari and decide to open itunes the two doesn't overlap. And i want them to overlap. its annoying when im on aim and skype and i have to click the icon every time when someone talks to me. But i can make the applications open overlapping "holding alt/option key and clicking the application at the same time". but this is really annoying.
I'm getting this damn message every time I try to open an app. Every time I open Firefox for instance, I'll get this message...no matter how many times I click on "Open". Can someone help? FYI, I recently bought a 27" iMac and I did download all my apps and installed them instead of migrating using Time Machine.
