OS X Technologies :: Why Does Gimp Crash On Text Editing

Sep 4, 2012

Every time I open Gimp 2.8 (Mac Package) and try to edit text, it crashes. I Have the same issue with Photoshop CS5. Here is the error log using Gimp 2.8:

Process:         X11.bin [5646]
Path:            /Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11.bin
Identifier:      org.x.X11
Version:         2.3.6 (2.3.6)

[code]....

This issue is really driving me nuts. I reinstalled PS CS5 several times, emptied font cache and check the harddisk for issues. No change at all. (aLmost) Every time I want to edit a text area in Gimp or Photoshop the programs crashes.

OS X Technologies :: Command Line Editing -- Move Quickly

Jun 21, 2012

Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal

I'm running bash.

I have a long command line:

/Users/mac/Sites/bithoist/BitHoist-PPC-MacOS-X   -offset 0x0000  /Users/mac/Sites/bithoist/commandLine/bins/aSunbird.bin   -stdout -hex   -r 0x0000,0x002f

I'd like to move quickly to the last 0 in -offset 0x0000.

I know about control + a and I found out about esc + f.  I do not find pressing esc then f then esc then f that easy.  I'd like to at least be able to hold down the esc key and press f's.

Could I redefine a word to only be " " (space) in the terminal?  Not sure I like this idea.

OS X :: Editing (Add Text) To PDF File?

Jul 29, 2009

I have a ton of job applications to fill out and hopefully turn them all in tomorrow. I have so many job apps, but rather than filling them all out by hand I'd much rather type the info into the PDF file directly and then print them out, ready to go. What's the best way to do this? I started out downloading Adobe Reader, later realizing there is a difference between Reader and Adobe Acrobat. Then after searching for a while I noticed the trial version of Acrobat I downloaded from Adobe's site is for Windows only; discovering Acrobat for Mac only went up to version 8.

There are no free trial downloads of version 8 for mac out there. I'd really hate to have to print out over 70 sheets of paper and fill them out one by one, box by box. Will "Preview" allow me to edit and add text on each job application? I'll respond quickly, as i'm looking for a solid solution on the matter. The only thing I've found, though don't really like it is uploading the PDF file online to a specific website and editing it there, text box by text box...seems, a bit of a hassle.

Software :: Advanced Text List Editing Application?

Apr 9, 2008

I was hoping that somebody could recommend a good advanced text list editing application, that I could use to edit a massive text list that I have, in which there is both a leading space and a trailing space at the beginning and end of every item in my text list, which I am trying to get rid of. Normally, I would use Microsoft Word's Find/Replace feature to replace a particular text character with a different character of my choosing, however, if I were to try and use this feature to remove every space in my document, it would also mess things up quite a bit by removing spaces that exist correctly between the words for various items in my text list. How I could go about accomplishing this task?

OS X Technologies :: Applescript To Rename A Text Variable?

May 25, 2012

I am currently using automator to make folders named after the large numbers of images. I have everything set up and its working great but I am trying to make it more efficient.

The images follow a filename structure such as:

bmz12345_black_1.jpg
bmz83762_blue_3.jpg
bmz83762_blue_1.jpg
bmz09990_yellow_5.jpg

I strip the filename to just the first part of the code eg "bmz12345" and make the folder from that.

However, In order to do this I have to create a dummy text file or folder somewhere named after the fulle code (bmz12345_black_1) and then strip it down (bmz12345) set a varible of the new filename and then create the folder in the desired location with the right name.

After getting the name of a finder item, Is it possible to change the text that is passed to it without creating a file out of it first?

OS X :: Dbus And GIMP Quit Unexpectedly?

May 3, 2010

I have used Gimp for about one year with no issues. I updated gimp to newer version 2.6 and now I can not get past errors.

Here is the scenario, then the supporting information;

- I updated gimp, then have 'The application gimp-2.6 quit unexpectedly' error

- X11 was up to date from the MAC side, so I updated to the latest version of X11 from Xquartz, then have same gimp error AND 'The application dbus-launch quit unexpectedly'.

- I removed both with AppZapper and loaded X11 from my Apple software disc with no improvement, I still have both errors.

- I tried an older version of Gimp and it did not work (no menu bar) and I think it was 2.4.7(?)

So with apple standard X11 and fresh install of gimp 2.6 I still am unable to start gimp. Nor will X11 open when I click the icon in apps folder.

Intel Mac :: Printed Text Doesn't Match Size Of Onscreen Text

Jul 2, 2012

Mac screen resolution is getting higher and higher, which is nice, but the downside is that we seem to have lost "what you see is what you get." I have set the default document size of Text-Edit to about the size of an 8 1/2 x 11 document, which fits easily on the screen. I have what appears to be a single page of text. It all easily fits in the document window. The headline fits across the width of the page. But when I choose Print, the print preview shows that the text is going to spill out onto two sheets of paper.  I exit out of the print document and reduce the text size so that it all prints out on one sheet of paper. The problem is, the size of the text onscreen is now TINY! It looks like it's about 6 point while the printed text looks like it's about 12 point! No WYSIWYG!  When I revert the document to the way it was originally, where it was going to print out on two sheets of paper, and then hold my printed document up next to the screen, the printed size matches the onscreen size almost perfectly, even though, if printed out at this size, the text would spill out onto two pages and be huge. In other words, 18 point size text prints out at about 12 points and 12 pt text prints out at about 6pts, so there's about a 6pt difference in how text looks onscreen and how it prints out. Again, No WYSIWYG! My older Macs had much lower-resolution screens, but text printed out at about the same apparent size on screen. I know the original Macs had 72dpi screens so that they would closely match the printed size of text, and I like the fact that monitors keep getting better, but is there a way around this problem of printed text not matching the size of onscreen text?

Final Cut Pro X :: Correcting Text In Project That Will Not Show Separate Text From Video

So I found the lost project in FCPX.  It has a music tract, text and video.  When I pulled the project down for editing, I am able to separate the music from the video, but the text bubbles do not appear above the video allowing me to change the misspelled words that need editing.I've searched all of my backup drives for the original footage in case I have to re-edit the whole thing, but I'm unable to find the original footage.  Every event in my libraries appears as a finished project.

Safari :: 5.1.2 Keeps Changing Text Field Randomly On Text Input

Feb 21, 2012

Safari keeps changing the text field on input, do you know how to correct this issue?

Here is an example:

Let's say I load www.google.com, it appears in the safari window as usual.

Suppose I begin to type a search in the google search field at the top right of the safari window (not the one on the google page)

if when doing this the sentence is long for the search, at some point randomly, the rest of the text will be entered this time in the google search text field on the google page! (which is the very next text field) So when I hit enter it makes google search half of my request...

Safari changed the text field I was into with no warning. I want to say I do not press tab at any moment. This is annoying really, and this does not appear anywhere else than in Safari. It seems the issue is not systematic, but appears quite often.

I have no universal access setting except "enable access for assistive device" I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.

OS X :: How To Select Text Layer And Modify Text And Add Watermark

May 17, 2009

I have designed a corporate letter head for a friend and it is still in jpeg format after using photoshop. Now I want to import it into a pages document so that I can give it to him in PC format so he can type over the watermark and put his letters onto his letterhead... now I can do that quite easily on my PC but not so on my Mac...

I can add the watermark image into the Pages document but for some reason I can't work out how to modify the text from then... i can see how you move the text formatting but if i wanted to add a word into a paragraph etc i can't select the text. It's as if the watermark layer is the only layer I can select and the text is not longer selectable.... can anybody help me out with this please? I just need to be able to select the text layer and modify the text..

OS X :: Mac Mini - Hardrive Crash

May 10, 2009

I was recently using my computer the other day which is a mac mini. I left it on and came back to use it and when I just clicked the mouse the screen froze. I tried using Ctrl-Alt-Esc but nothing worked so I just turned off the computer. I rebooted it again and I hear a clicking noise and the computer wont load, just a blank white screen. Repeated the same thing multiple times and still the same. Unfortunatley for me I didn't make a backup of the hard drive. I brought the computer into the apple store to get it fixed.

I wanted to know if there is any way to salvage(data recovery) any of the files from the hardrive or someway to recover them. I looked at how much it costs to do a data recovery and the price seems way to expensive.
