Applications :: IPhoto - Drive Access - Stop It?

Jan 15, 2010

When I leave iPhoto open for extended periods (which i'd like to do most of the time) it seems to hit the HDD pretty hard, constantly, slowing some stuff (particularly time machine backups!) considerably. I'm on an '08 imac, 2.8ghz, 4GB ram, 8800GT.. Snow Leopard.. It runs fine other than that.. I do have a 42GB library, 246 of the files are movies. A lot of the photos are RAW. Anyone experienced similar? And is there some way to stop it?

Applications :: How To Stop IPhoto Launch When Thumb Drive Inserted

Jan 14, 2009

When I insert my thumb drive (usb) iphoto launches. It doesn't offer to import, just gets in my way! I'm sure there are a few photos on the drive, but the bulk of what's on there is other data types, text, pdf, a bunch of stuff. So can I make iphoto stop launching?

Applications :: Can You Stop IPhoto From Importing Videos

Mar 29, 2010

I'm running iPhoto '06 right now and I don't want it to import videos, since it never can tell that they're duplicates and thus I end up with many copies of the same thing (which is difficult to clean up, since I have to go into Finder to do it). So I have two questions:

1) Can you stop iPhoto '06 from importing videos entirely?

2) If I upgraded to iPhoto '09, would that fix the problem? As in, will it either be able to recognize duplicate videos, or allow me to stop video importing?

Applications :: IPhoto - How To Access The Actual Files

Oct 30, 2007

How can I see the actual files of my photographs and images in Finder? iPhoto just creates an "iPhoto Library" it it gives me no access to the files themselves. If I'm uploading photos to a forum or Facebook I need to access the files. Any idea how I can do this?

Applications :: Can't Access Photos In IPhoto Library

Dec 7, 2007

In iPhoto 06, in the finder, if you went to the iphoto library folder, you could select the photos in the original or modified folders. I'm using iPhoto 08 on my iMac and I can't do that anymore. For example, when I'm in Photoshop/trying to upload a photo to a webpage and I want to open a photo thats in the iPhoto Libraries Original folder, it won't go any farther than the iPhoto Library, there's no arrow so I can't get to the different folders in the Library. When I click on show file in iPhoto, it will show this location, but other than that I can't get at it. I'm running the latest version, just checked to see if there were any updates and there wasn't. I've taken screen shots to try and explain. the second one is when I try to get at it through the finder and the first one is when I click on "Show File" on a photo in iPhoto.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Can't Access IPhoto Library, IPhoto Apparently Automatically Upgraded To V 9.3

Jun 28, 2012

I suddenly cannot access the several thousand photos in my iPhoto Library. I believe my computer must have automatically downloaded and upgraded the version I previously had. Now I get an error message that reads: The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete. I still need my images able to be read by previous versions since I go back and forth editing between older desktops. Is there a way to access the photo library without okaying the upgrade? If I reinstall an older version of iPhoto, will I lose the existing library of photos?

Applications :: Moving IPhoto To External Drive?

Mar 20, 2009

I have a 60GB iPhoto 08 library that I want to move from my internal iMac drive to my iomega 1TB NAS drive. Both the NAS and the iMac are connected via Gigabit ethernet. I have dragged a ton of files, namely my Itunes database, and it flew threw very quickly. But copying my iPhoto database, and pasting it to the NAS drive, it is crazy slow. 60 minutes later and it just finished it's first Gig. It says I have about 61 hours remaining to copy the remaining 59GB.

iPhoto is closed, and there is not much else going on with the machine. Even while this is copying I can drag and drop lots of other files and they fly through the network. Is this what I should expect?

Applications :: Looking For An Application To Do Backups Of IPhoto Library To External Drive?

Dec 21, 2009

Ive been building up quite the iPhoto library, about 12,000 photos; and it will be growing much more as I just got a new camera. I always have the scary thought of losing photos, I need to start backing up my photos.
I am looking for an application that will be able to do a backup of my photos to my external hard drive (160GB).

My iPhoto library is currently just under 38GB. I would like to be able to plug in my external drive to my macbook about once a month and run some kind of application to backup my whole iPhoto library to the external...

Oh and I would really like it to be a GUI, I don't really like working in terminal.

Does anything like this exist?

ITunes For Mac :: How To Stop Access To Ghost NAS When Accessing Missing Tracks

Dec 11, 2014

The NAS containing my iTunes media crashed. I have been able to recover about two-thirds of the tracks directly from the original disks. Luckily the iTunes library file is still intact, so I know what is still missing.

There were about 10000 more tracks to recover :-(  I am currently ripping them all back in. However, I have the problem that when I click on a track which is missing from the media, iTunes spends an interminable time (about a minute) trying something (the rotating beachball spins) before reporting that it cannot access the IP address of my dead NAS. I now have a new NAS with a different IP address. As far as I know, I have deleted all references to the old NAS (in Finder, using Remove from Connect to Server...). iTunes is using the new NAS for storing its media data.

How is it that iTunes keeps referring to the old IP address? What must I do to make it stop doing this?

OS X Yosemite :: Stop IPhoto Opening When Connect IPad

Dec 11, 2014

Calibre enabled me to stop iTunes from opening every time I connected my iPad, but since Yosemite, it's now iPhoto that opens every time we're joined. I don't understand iPhoto, which never wants to do anything I want it to, so I almost never use it. Not only that, it takes an age to fully open while it tries to read photos from my iPad, the Cloud and probably from the Other Side.

I am guessing this might be connected with iCloud, but I want to stop it. I've looked at iPhoto's Preferernces, I've looked at a number of things in System Preferences, but so far I can't stop this automatic opening.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), May only relate to Preview

Applications :: ITunes And IPhoto Libraries Over Airport Extreme Hard Drive?

I just bought an external hard drive for our airport extreme. Would it be a good idea to have our iphoto and itunes libraries on that hard drive, so that the various computers that we are using can access the libraries wirelessly?

If you think it is a good idea, how would you go about moving the itunes library? I think it's easy enough for iphoto, but itunes seems a bit more complicated?
