View 2 RepliesCalibre enabled me to stop iTunes from opening every time I connected my iPad, but since Yosemite, it's now iPhoto that opens every time we're joined. I don't understand iPhoto, which never wants to do anything I want it to, so I almost never use it. Not only that, it takes an age to fully open while it tries to read photos from my iPad, the Cloud and probably from the Other Side.Â
I am guessing this might be connected with iCloud, but I want to stop it. I've looked at iPhoto's Preferernces, I've looked at a number of things in System Preferences, but so far I can't stop this automatic opening.

I have a new mac. How do I stop all applications opening up when I first log in?

iPhoto, for example, takes about 30secs to open. If I'm using Safari and decide I want to upload a photo, opening iPhoto and then going back to Safari simply means that iPhoto will jump to the front with it's big, blank screen and spinning beachball five or six times. It's like fighting with my Mac. It's like I'm constantly clicking back to Safari and then a few seconds later my Mac will pop it to the front as if to say "You wanted iPhoto, so here's iPhoto - watch it open."
It's very annoying. Can I set something to allow applications to load in the background?
Every time I log in to my account, all of the applications I previously had open start up automatically. This takes a long time and there is a reason I closed the applications when I logged out. Is there a way to stop this from happening? Also, every time I open up Quicktime, it also opens the past video's I had opened. This is also really annoying.

When I log in using Lion, Mail, Entourage, and ICal open on my desktop.I already tried unchecking the restore windows box under system preferences/general; sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. The only way to stop it seems to be to uncheck the similar box that appears when you shut down the computer, but you have to do it each time, and I think it doesn't always work either. The options features in the dock items don't seem to work--they're already unchecked, and the windows still open. I don't want everyone else in my family to see my mail as soon as the computer opens and it's really annoying besides.Â

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am a new Mac user (had my macbook for 2 weeks, loving it, but still learning how to use it). I am really annoyed by Preview app. Anytime I save a photo in my Download folder, it automatically opens it with Preview, whether I want it or not. When I quit Preview, it still opens the next time I download a photo. I can't find anywhere in Preview options such option to disconnect automatic opening of photos. How do I turn it off please?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThere is probably a very simple answer to this - but I can't find it! Everytime I start up my imac, a couple of tedious applications that take a long time have to open then I have to close them to get on with what I want to do.
How do I stop these loading automatically?

Everytime I open up iPhoto, I get this message that says: "A photo has been found in the iPhoto library that was not imported. Would you like to import it? No button and Yes button appear at the bottom of the message box. Sometimes it does it twice. If I say yes, then when iPhoto finishes opening up, there is an album (or two) at the bottom of my album list called "Recovered Photos" but they are empty. I have to manually go through this and then delete them everytime I open up iPhoto. I know in the grand scheme of things this doesn't harm my use of iPhoto or my existing photos, it just accumulates into being a bug and a diversion that I have to get used to dealing with. I thought I left adjusting to those buggy pains in the a$$ behind when I left Windows.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to open my iPhone movies in iMovie so I can edit them in there. I know that I need to import my video into iPhoto and then from there open it in iMovie, but that is where I am stuck. I can import into iPhoto, but how do I then open it in iMovie. I opened the file which opened in Quicktime and then I saved the file on my desktop and from there opened it in iMovie, but the resulting upload to Youtube was very poor quality even though it should have been 720p.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I leave iPhoto open for extended periods (which i'd like to do most of the time) it seems to hit the HDD pretty hard, constantly, slowing some stuff (particularly time machine backups!) considerably. I'm on an '08 imac, 2.8ghz, 4GB ram, 8800GT.. Snow Leopard.. It runs fine other than that.. I do have a 42GB library, 246 of the files are movies. A lot of the photos are RAW. Anyone experienced similar? And is there some way to stop it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running iPhoto '06 right now and I don't want it to import videos, since it never can tell that they're duplicates and thus I end up with many copies of the same thing (which is difficult to clean up, since I have to go into Finder to do it). So I have two questions:
1) Can you stop iPhoto '06 from importing videos entirely?
2) If I upgraded to iPhoto '09, would that fix the problem? As in, will it either be able to recognize duplicate videos, or allow me to stop video importing?
When I insert my thumb drive (usb) iphoto launches. It doesn't offer to import, just gets in my way! I'm sure there are a few photos on the drive, but the bulk of what's on there is other data types, text, pdf, a bunch of stuff. So can I make iphoto stop launching?

I've got a Canon app which I use for tethering etc, but don't use for importing photos. But when I connect my camera via USB, this app (EOS Utility) automatically opens. There doesn't appear to be an option to change this in the app itself. Is there a central way in system preferences or elsewhere to change what happens when a camera is connected?

When I first start up Safari - it automatically opens a huge number of tabs (the drop down menu on a tab right click shows an option to bookmark 99 tabs - and there are more tabs opened than I care to count). They appear to all be existing bookmarks; but could also be history.
At one point it would not let me close it at all & because it wouldn't close the OS would not allow a shutdown. So I had to do a hardware power off instead.
I played around with the setting and finnally - after severl hard reboots and a lot of try this & try that - I got it to allow itself to be closed.Â
But the 99+/- auto opens continue to be a problem. I've tried to completely clear my history, and several other property adjustments - but overall the behaviour remains very very flakely.Â
I want to make it my default browser on all my Apple things (Macbook / iTouch / iPad) but the very bad behaviour keeps pushing me back to Firefox - sigh. It feels like a very bad user design that cannot be trusted.Â
Are there some obvious know gotcha's with this browser? Or some standard settings that should never be touched? Or are these common bugs that just don't work right?
