ITunes For Mac :: How To Stop Access To Ghost NAS When Accessing Missing Tracks

Dec 11, 2014

The NAS containing my iTunes media crashed. I have been able to recover about two-thirds of the tracks directly from the original disks. Luckily the iTunes library file is still intact, so I know what is still missing.

There were about 10000 more tracks to recover :-(  I am currently ripping them all back in. However, I have the problem that when I click on a track which is missing from the media, iTunes spends an interminable time (about a minute) trying something (the rotating beachball spins) before reporting that it cannot access the IP address of my dead NAS. I now have a new NAS with a different IP address. As far as I know, I have deleted all references to the old NAS (in Finder, using Remove from Connect to Server...). iTunes is using the new NAS for storing its media data.

How is it that iTunes keeps referring to the old IP address? What must I do to make it stop doing this?

Software :: ITunes 9.0.3 - Artwork Tab Missing When Selecting Multiple Tracks

Mar 30, 2010

osx 10.5.8
itunes 9.0.3

i'm having trouble assigning MULTIPLE pieces of album art to MULTIPLE tracks SIMULTANEOUSLY. i see that i can add multiple arts to a single track by:

.. selecting a single track by highlighting -> get info -> artwork tab
.. selecting and playing a single track (so that the speaker icon appears to the left of the track in the playlist; paused or not) -> dragging artwork into the artwork pane in itunes; artwork gets added only to the track with the speaker icon regardless of which track(s) are highlighted. if there is existing artwork, new art gets added (does not replace old art).

also, adding a single piece of art to multiple tracks can be done by: selecting tracks by highlighting -> get info -> info tab -> artwork field (note: artwork FIELD within info TAB of 'get info' dialog, not artwork tab).....................

ITunes For Mac :: How To Stop Playing Album Tracks In Wrong Order

Jun 28, 2014

how or why this has started, but iTunes now insists on playing the tracks from every album in totally the wrong order; how to make it play them in the order they are on the album? I tried to see if some kind of 'shuffle' option is switched on but I can't see anything. But every time I click to play an album, when I look in 'up next', it shows me the tracks coming up to play all jumbled up in the wrong order.

OS X :: ITunes Data Missing/deleted And Access Rights On Mac?

Dec 25, 2009

Having a bit more time, i stuffed up my iTunes library and can't fix it and would really appreciate any kind of advice.

A few things reg my mac and myself before I come to the core of the problem:

I have a macbook air, no 'extras' inside (normal 1.6GHz) and it's running at home with an airport and an external HDD of a few gig to store my data and backups. OS is Mac OS X 10.6.2 (10C540).

I am not a mac specialist and just started using mac roughly over a year ago and never got the real 'cores' but bit by bit I get there (I thought ).

And just btw I am not an english native speaker so I may phrase things 'funny' from time to time

I have my music, videos etc on my ext HDD and a copy of music on my mac as I like to have it with me 'on the road'.

As I was the only user it was just in my 'Music' folder

My bf just moved in and is wrapped by the mac anyway and had a user for a while. With his new iphone I *wanted* to copy the music to Users/Shared so we both can have it in our iTunes

This proofed to be not that easy as I couldn't give him access rights even though the music was in this 'shared' folder. With the 'information' of each folder I tried to give him access rights (rea & write) but even by doing so for some folders and their sub-folders, I still can't import these files into his library.
So there are my first (hopefully quite basic questions)

How can I give him access to all these music folders so he can load them into his iTunes? As I would like to prevent to click each folder and sub-folder - is there a way to speed this up?

Standing for this problems and having messed up my music a bit as the links of my itunes weren't updated to the new music location, I somehow (stupid stupid stupid) tried to make it work without making any backups of my library files and without having any in-dept knowledge about iTunes and how it actually works/ stores its information etc.

To cut a long story short: my whole iTunes it totally 'empty' : no movies, music, even iphone apps are there anymore and even when I connect my iphone nothing happens. I have no backup what-so-ever and unfortunately can't give you the steps I went to mess it up that way because I just panicked along the way and didn't trace my steps or stopped at the right moment to look up some handy and useful manuals/ guides. Would love to explain an interesting and maybe challenging error for you guys but that's the boring truth.

I was wondering if it makes sense if I de-intall iTunes now completely and then re-install it and import the music/ movies into both users iTunes and make a clean set up. As it is Christmas time I have a bit of time and this wouldn't bother me too much. So the question is here: would you recommend this / agree? Are there any tipps you would give me/ things to do to make this work?
And this of course still leave me with my access rights problems as all the music folders are under "shared" and my bf's account somehow doesn't have access to it. I have still a backup of that data on my ext HDD so I could delete it on my notebook and re-copy it to somewhere if I know where/ how to make it work.

Hope this is not too messy for you all to read through! I would really appreciate if I would get some hints/ tipps/ advice from you.

Oh something I forgot: before I wrote here I searched this forum and some others as well the apple standard help and tried to 're-create' my library but as deleted my rubbish bin within my mess-up-process I think I deleted the original files.

I think part of the whole problem is the missing back up and of course my half-knowledge of mac/ iTunes.

ITunes :: Get Music Tracks Off Dvd?

Jul 7, 2010

My laptop crashed last week and I am now on a brand new operating system (windows 7) using a Dell Inspirion PC. Ive lost all my old music off my hard drive. I have a bunch of dvds a mate of mine burned for me back home that i brought to the USA, and i have no idea how i got the music off them originally and into itunes/on my hard drive. I cant copy directly from the dvd to my hard drive as each song is encrypted. I know my mates password in the case that happens in itunes and it asks for it, but im not being given the chance to enter it anywhere. Obviously itunes recognizes the disc and i can play the music in there generally, but i cant copy the music to the library.

ITunes :: Add Tracks To Its Library?

Mar 17, 2012

I have just tried to add to albums to my iTunes library. The albums are in folders on my hard drive. Previously I just selected 'Add to Library' from the iTunes drop down menu. This would create a copy of the tracks in my iTunes Library. From there I could drag and drop them into a playlist.I select 'Add to Library' as usual. Select the folder and hit 'Open'. iTunes then creates a playlist for that folder but looks like it is playing the mp3's from their original folder location. It is not actually adding the tracks to my iTunes library.

As far as I know I have not changed any setting. I have been back in and revisited all of the settings options but can't see any issues there either. I have been using this 'Add to Library' method for around 10 years so am curious to find out what is wrong.

ITunes :: Why Does It Sometimes Separate Tracks

May 14, 2012

In importing my cd collection to itunes, I've noticed that sometimes it will separate a track or tracks into more than one copy of an album. Why is this and how can I make it stop? It's only happened a couple times but is still annoying. The other day it separated track 2 of a cd from the other tracks, so I had 2 copies of that disc in itunes. One with just track 2 and a second with all the other tracks. Today it separated each track of an entire cd, so I had 10 copies of the same disc, each with one song.

OS X :: ITunes & Multiple Audio Tracks

Jan 9, 2011

I have some movies on which I'd like to put multiple audio tracks. Here's what I'm doing. First, I add the second audio track in Subler and save. Returning to iTunes, I'm not given the option to switch in iTunes or QuickTime 10. So I go back to Subler and turn one track off, saving again. Now I'm given the option to switch. But the audio doesn't work. The standard track works fine. Switching to the other one makes a popping sound and then pure silence. Switching back works fine. This also happens in QuickTime 10.

So I tried to enable/disable via QuickTime 7 Pro. Turning a track off forces me to resave the file, but not like Subler, oh, no. QuickTime 7 Pro forces me to reencode the whole thing as an MOV, which takes forever and is pointless. I've done this without having to save before. What's going on? How do I add a second, selectable audio track that works on things in iTunes without QuickTime 7 Pro forcing me to save MP4s as MOVs and [insert any audio filetype with zero video whatsoever here] as MOVs as well?!

ITunes :: Cannot Number Playlist Tracks From 1 To 30

Dec 14, 2010

iTunes won't list my tracks chronologically once they get past 9. I have a lecture series that has 30 tracks in it and when I number them from 1-30 as soon as iTunes sees another 1, like at the beginning of all the numbers from 10-19, it puts them after the number 1, and then moves onto the number 2. It's a real drag and other than alphabetizing the first 9 numbers I'm at a loss of what to do. Is there somewhere in preferences I can have it recognize two-digit numbers properly?

OS X Technologies :: Selecting Tracks In Itunes?

Apr 21, 2012

Selecting tracks in iTunes, using AppleScript, remains a mystery to me. For example, this short script:tell application "iTunes"  set t to first track of current playlist  select tend tellI think the script is obvious, but I get this error instead:iTunes got an error: URL track id 896882 of user playlist id 896879 of source id 76 doesn’t understand the select message.(well, if the select command is not made for selecting tracks, what else in iTunes?) Thinking it may be because iTunes expect a list, I then try this:tell application "iTunes"  set t to {first track of current playlist}  select tend tellBut the same error happens. Finally, out of idea, I try this:tell application "iTunes"  set t to {first track of current playlist}  set selection to tend tell I get this, now:iTunes got an error: Unknown object type.(in the “selection” line).

I've also tried things like this:tell application "iTunes"  set t to selection  select tend tell To be sure the data is the expected type, but the same error happens. Now, I'm really out of idea. I have over 8'000 files to sort, and I made a script to get every duplicate track, but now I can't select them (I can only uncheck the checkbox, for visual feedback, but it's far from ideal).I can't think it's not possible to select some tracks in iTunes.
