I am looking for a program that will uncompress .7z files and will work on a G4 Man Mini running OS 10.4.11. All of the programs I have found so far only work on Intel Macs. I have tried the latest version of Stuffit Expander (14.0.1) for PPC/Intel Macs, but expanding a 7z file only creates a new zipped file.
View 5 RepliesI just purchased a Mac Mini and was hoping to play VOB files (which I ripped on a Linux machine, not the Mac Mini) with the native DVD Player application. However, when I try to open the files, which have names like title1.vob, title2.vob, etc, the names are grey-ed out in the file selector window. I can't select those files, and therefore I can't play them. Am I doing something wrong? Can I play VOB files with DVD Player? If not, is there another way to play VOB files on a Mac Mini? I have an LCD TV connected to the mini-DVD port on the Mac Mini, and I'd like to be able to play the files to the TV screen, and also, use the Mac Remote to control Fast Forward, Rewind, File Select, etc.

A lot of mkv or avi files I playback appear pretty choppy in VLC - my primary app for watching movies and tv shows.
I have a Drobo with two 2 TB SATA drives where I store all my stuff and which is connected to my mini via firewire 800.
I've tried playing the same video back from both the Drobo and from the internal hard drive, to see if the choppiness was on account of the external drive or not. No difference really. A choppy video remains choppy from either place.
It's pretty strange because some 1080p videos play just fine, with no choppiness whatsoever, while other 720p videos or even standard definition divx files are still choppy.
how would i connect an emac to a mini so that i can share files? the ethernet port on the mini is used for internet.

Apparently I have a bad file in my user profile. I am unable to use some of my Adobe software and they told me I have to create a new User profile. I created a new User account but how do I migrate my files from one user to another? Will I have to enter a password everytime I open a file if I do this?

We have Mac Mini (Lion) Server which my colleagues access with PCs and Macs. Â
My problem is that if a MS Officer user tries to open .ppt, .xls and .doc files directly from the server, it won't work.
There is no problem in opening those files for Mac users. Â

New to the Mac World and trying to set things up for all our users. We have 5 (2adults,3kids) and I'm keen to be able to share some files with other members of my family and would like to know the easiest way in doing this.
A couple of things to note;
- The two adults are the admin's

I was doing well until I decided I wanted to change the name of the Home Folder. I attempted this by logging in as "Root administrator" and followed an online "how to". After rebooting I now get a gray screen with the apple logo and a spinning cog. Needless to say I have missed a step!! I have tried using the mac mini's OS X DVD to boot from by holding down the C key while rebooting but it just keeps spinning. How I can perform a clean install if the mini is not responding to Shift key or C key on boot up?
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust fired up my Mini Mac I purchased about 4 months ago. I bought it so I could hook it up directly to my Samsung Series 8 LED TV. I'm hooking up 2 External HD's to it; 1 with my music and music videos and 1 with all my movies. The Externals are WD 1 terabyte and LaCie 1 terabyte. My music and music videos will go on the WD because it only has USB 2.0 and the movies on my LaCie which has firewire.
1) on my TV (acting as a monitor) I cannot see the menu bar. I can access it, but is not visible. Even the dock items when activated are not totally visible.
2) I bought a mini dvi to dvi converter and have connected to my TV using a dvi to hdmi connector. My TV has 4 hdmi inputs. Using one for my DVD player and one for the Mini Mac. The issue is when I have my Mini Mac plugged into the TV and I try and watch regular TV, whether through a satellite TV or the same TV, the TV picture is very snowing. If I pull out the cord connecting the Mini Mac to the TV the snow immediately goes away.
I would like to move my music library from my MacBook Pro to my WD external HD and than play/access my music through my Mac Mini iTunes. I'm pretty sure how to move my library, but what about the music files?
I am running out of disk space on my Mac Mini. I want to know if there a way to search for and delete unuded file. Maybe an application or other way to do this.

The first thing I did was go to the Disk Utility myself and verify/repair all my permissions - it repaired everything it wanted to but it failed to stop the trash problem. My theory is that, previous to this incident when I was using an App from the App Store called DaisyDisk I cleaned out 10GB worth of data that I considered unnecessary. It seems I was a little off with that thought, because I think I deleted my trash directory itself. Â Â
So online here I found an answered question to someone who committed the same careless deletion act that I did. The only problem is, I couldn't completely follow their instructions because however I may have screwed up, I did it worse than they did.I would appreciate any help anyone could have to offer. I have done everything I could think of and one or two things that other people have thought of.

Today i was finishing a 7min HD Video Project for my class, on a mac tower, when i got the I/O error message while exporting it. It got worse from there. Untill today i have had no problem viewing/opening/editing files from my harddrive.
Now, i cant even open the FCP project. It says final cut pro quit unexpectedly while using the kgcore plug-in When i try to watch a quicktime file, the movie will play for a few seconds, then freeze and force quit.I try to copy any file to my desktop and it says The Finder cant complete the operation because some data in(filename) cant be read or written. (Error code -36)
I ran disk utility to verify the disk, and it says that everything appeared ok.I also ran disk repair, and it also said nothing was wrong with the harddrive.I have tried to do all of these things on 4 different computers today, 3 towers and a Mac Mini.All the same results, down to the exact second and mb of the attempted transfers and watches.
My Mac Mini will not pull in a disc to copy files.

I have a bunch of 720p MKV files. I have my mini connected with HDMI to my 54" Panasonic 1080p. I set the resolution on the mini to 1080 and I play my MKV files...
When I set my resolution on my computer to 720p the movie takes up almost the full screen before i select full screen mode. When I set the computer resolution to 1080p and play the 720p media the movie screen only takes up about 3/4 of the screen until i set to full screen mode.
Do I lose any quality or get extra quality having my mini res at 1080p but playing 720p media?
Is the NVIDIA geforce capable of upscaling 720p to 1080?
I just ran the Boot Camp utility and installed Windows 7 on my Mac Mini. Everything seems to work pretty well. From Windows I can see the Mac partition and from Mac I can see the Windows partition. Each OS has it's own Users file structure. Now, I recently converted over to Mac this month and have over a decade worth of files from my PC that I plan to migrate over. Best-case, I would like to be able to easily access those files no matter what OS I am using. Should I create a 3rd partition for just files? Pick either the Mac or Windows partition to be the master for the files? Can each OS easily use a different folder for the Users files (I know I was able to do it with Vista in the past, not sure about SL).
