Mac Mini :: Recover Files Not In Time Machine

May 23, 2012

I have lost files kept on an external hard disk but not backed up in Time machine, because of the vast number and size of them. Is there a way to recover them?=

OS X :: Recover Files From Another Time Machine

Jul 11, 2009

I was trying to remember how you do this exactly, since it said you could when I was restoring it. Anyways, I fully restored my Mini, and I wanted to get my iPhoto off of my Time Machine. However, it says that I don't have permission to drag it off of the Time Machine...maybe I'm doing it wrong (supposed to use a program to do this?)

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Unable To Recover Time Machine Files?

Mar 23, 2012

I'm running Time Machine on a Western Digital network storage device from my iMac.  It works fine.  I can go back any amount of time and recover files as they were backed up then.  But I also want to be able to depend on Time Machine backups to allow me to recover files if my iMac goes down.  So just as a test, I tried to use the Browse Other Time Machine Disks feature from my MacBook Air.  I can't make it work.  It shows me a Choose Time Machine Disk to Browse window, but there are no disks in the choose pane.

People have been telling me that I have to "mount" the volume, but I see no way to do so.  Clicking Go - Connect to Server - Browse, shows me that the backup disk is there; it's called <mydiscname>-backup.  But when I try to connect to it I get an immediate connection failure.

I'm beginning to suspect that there is no way to restore from another computer when the Time Machine backups are on a network storage device?  If this is true, people need to know it and stop using network storage for Time Machine, as it won't be safe if their principal Mac goes down.

OS X :: Recover Time Machine File On Another Computer?

Nov 12, 2009

My MacBook's hard drive died last night, but luckily I have a backup from earlier that day on my Time Machine enabled external HD. My friend has a MacBook, and I have a paper due for a class in about a week, so I was wondering if I could hook my HD to her computer and recover just the word document. I would have tried this by now if the guy at the store who's replacing my hard drive had not told me to be extremely careful when trying this or else it won't restore when I get my computer back.

Mac Pro :: Reinstall Recovery HDD After Full Time Machine Recover?

Jun 22, 2012

I had to recover my primary Macinstoh HD to a new disk from Time Machine, but somehow I now lost my Recover HD on the Macintosh HD.  To do the initial recover I had to install Mac OS X Lion on a 2nd internal Hard Drive, but now I want to use Time Machine and go back to before I installed Lion, because the permissions are messed up and I can no longer use that disk 2nd disk, unless I continually enter the admin password. Now when I hold down Apple - R key during boot I no longer get to Recovery HD. I was able to see Recovery HD using the System Information app, then within the Serial-ATA section, but that Apple_Boot volume is gone.

OS X Mavericks :: Recover Keychain Password From Time Machine Backup

Sep 11, 2014

My login.keychain password is not recognized anymore, i am very sure about the actual pwd string and I tried to restart apps and machine already, I believe the file got corrupted somehow, hence various applications such as FTP clients cannot autoconnect to external resources

I am bound to recover from a Timemachine backup, but all discussions are just dealing with recovering items in the keychain file once it is restored, what about the keychain master password? is it contained in the login.keychain file so that restoring that file to the HD will allow me to regain access to the saved items?

Applications :: Use Time Machine To Backup Desktop Mac Mini?

Oct 31, 2010

I have a Mac Mini and two mac notebooks that run Snow Leopard. I've been backing these machines up to a 300 GB drive that is now full. Today I brought home a 2TB drive so that I can use Time Machine to backup the desktop Mac Mini. Can I use the same hard drive to use Time Machine for the two notebooks, as well? What about storing other backups on that drive as well? I'm just trying to map the most logical approach to having safe backups.

Mac Mini :: ITunes 10 Deleted Library - How To Get Back (Time Machine)

Sep 5, 2010

I just updated my iTunes but it appears it deleted my library. This sucks because I have spent hours upon hours sorting it, renaming crooked song titles, finding covers and all that stuff. I used time machine to back up my computer like 5 days ago, but I can't figure out how to use it. I wish I could just select that given day (when I made my last backup) and make it turn everything back to what it was back then. How do I do this exactly? I don't care at all if I have to go back to the old iTunes (obviously they will fix this eventually!) - I just want it to look like it did a few days ago.

Mac Mini :: External HD (for Time Machine) Wakes Up For No Apparent Reason

Apr 12, 2010

I have a Mac Mini with two external WD MyBook's attached. The drive in question, is configured for Time Machine backups every four hours. It should sleep the rest of the time. But every once in a while, it wakes. I just revs up for no reason, then after a short while it goes back to sleep. It can happen when I open a folder, open a file, click a link in the browser or some other seemingly unrelated action.

I tried to untick the "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" to see if I then at least could get the drive to stay awake instead. This did not change the behavior at all.

Does anybody have a clue what I can do, to get OS X to leave that drive the hell alone, other than Time Machine??

MacBook Pro :: How To Access Previous Backups From Mac Mini Through Time Machine

Dec 7, 2014

I switched from a Mac Mini to a Retina Display Macbook Pro. When I hooked up the external drive I've been using for Time Machine to the MBP, I went through the setup for Time Machine and it created a backup of the MBP. That is the only backup now showing when I enter Time Machine. How do I access the previous backups from the Mac Mini through Time Machine? If I open the external hard drive from the finder, I can see the backups on the drive.
