Mac Mini :: Using With Entertainment System - Music Files?

Aug 21, 2010

Just fired up my Mini Mac I purchased about 4 months ago. I bought it so I could hook it up directly to my Samsung Series 8 LED TV. I'm hooking up 2 External HD's to it; 1 with my music and music videos and 1 with all my movies. The Externals are WD 1 terabyte and LaCie 1 terabyte. My music and music videos will go on the WD because it only has USB 2.0 and the movies on my LaCie which has firewire.

1) on my TV (acting as a monitor) I cannot see the menu bar. I can access it, but is not visible. Even the dock items when activated are not totally visible.
2) I bought a mini dvi to dvi converter and have connected to my TV using a dvi to hdmi connector. My TV has 4 hdmi inputs. Using one for my DVD player and one for the Mini Mac. The issue is when I have my Mini Mac plugged into the TV and I try and watch regular TV, whether through a satellite TV or the same TV, the TV picture is very snowing. If I pull out the cord connecting the Mini Mac to the TV the snow immediately goes away.

I would like to move my music library from my MacBook Pro to my WD external HD and than play/access my music through my Mac Mini iTunes. I'm pretty sure how to move my library, but what about the music files?

OS X :: Unable To Copy Music Files / Merging All Music Files In One Folder?

Sep 25, 2010

I finally ripped my music into digital format. It is a very large library so I performed the rips in four segments creating four folders of music. The highest level folders are Music1, Music2, Music3, Music4. The next layer folder is the artists name, then album name, then the actual MP3S.

How do I merge the folders? If I perform a copy the first artist name is sees that already is exists, the finder wants me to skip the copy or replace the folder that is there. I simply want to add the folder or merge it. Is there a "merge" function in OSX? I tried Carbon Copy but it will not copy or sync fils on the same disk.

MacBook Pro :: Ultimate Laptop For Entertainment Purposes?

Jul 16, 2009

I am having a hard time deciding on which laptop I should buy. I narrowed my search down to:

-HP's HDX18,
-MacBook Pro, t
-Dell XPS 16,
-Sony Vaio AW (with the 18 inch screen).

I watch movies in abundance. My film and music libraries are about 500GB. I also enjoy taking and editing movies and pictures. Weight is not an issue. I would be very thankful if you can help me choose which of these LTs is the most enjoyable. I'm going to Grad School in France next September. My laptop should be my main source of entertainment.

Mac Pro :: Exists A Large Community Of Entertainment Creatives?

Feb 9, 2012

There exists a large community of entertainment creatives. We make your blockbuster movies. We design your video-games. We produce your favorite songs. We do all of this on Mac Pros. After we finish these products, you sell them on itunes.  Neither Ipads or Imacs are up to these design tasks.

We are now close to 600 days since a Mac Pro refresh. Why are you Abandoning the one demographic that has always kept you afloat, even during the dire early 90s when Apple was only supportes by us.....The creative professional.

Software :: Can't Put Music Files In Music Folder

Dec 8, 2008

I have some sound effects that I have on my external hard drive that I want to listen to and add to my iTunes, but whenever I go to do that I get a message that says I don't have permission to write on my music folder. I am the only account on my Macbook Pro. I checked and I have the rights to read and write on my music folder. I don't know how to fix the problem. It also happens when I add music that I downloaded from the internet not iTunes. Sometimes with that I just have to hold option or command (I don't remember off the top of my head) and that'll let me copy the music into a folder that I created. How can I get permission to write into/onto my music folder for my Macbook Pro?

Software :: Transferring Files From Lacie To Pc / Itunes Unable To Find Music Files?

Aug 15, 2009

I have a Lacie external hard disk that was originally formatted for PCs. I have some files there, but more importantly, my iTunes library is saved directly on the Lacie (I have everything on apple lossless, so they are some big files). I will keep using this PC while connected to the Lacie hard disk to syncro my iPod.

The problem is that I bought a mac now and I wanted the Lacie hard disk to be able to transfer files from mac to pc and vice versa. I have already read that I would have to copy the files that are on the Lacie, reformat the Lacie and then paste the files back. My only doubt is that if I do this reformatting, will I have any problems using the iTunes library while connected to my pc and iPod?

I just ask that because every time I changed any iTunes library folder on the computer, the iTunes would say that the music file couldnt be found and ask me if I wanted to look for the file. I didnt want to reformat the Lacie to later find out that I would have to look for every single music file, because that would be nearly impossible. I dont know if I was able to make my question really clear

Mac Mini :: How To Use Mini As Home Theatre System?

Oct 14, 2010

So I purchased a stereo output to composite red/white cables. I then plugged the HDMI and composites cables into the receiver, but the it reads only the HDMI (which should include audio and video), or composite (yellow, red, white). If you have HDMI plugged it, it doesn't read from the composite, and vise-versa. So how exactly can I fix this? Why doesn't Apple have the HDMI contain audio and video (like most things, PS3, 360, consoles)? This is really odd and I cannot really use it as a home theatre system at the moment. I was hoping that it wasn't my receivers fault (2008 fancy Denon receiver, cost a few grand), but if it was to find some kind of converter that takes HDMI and stereo out, and outputs it as HDMI with audio/video.

Mac Mini :: New Mac Mini - Choppy Video Playback In VLC For Mkv Or Avi Files

Sep 30, 2010

Just bought the new mac mini with HDMI out - 2.66Ghz, 8 Gb RAM, 500 Gb HDD

A lot of mkv or avi files I playback appear pretty choppy in VLC - my primary app for watching movies and tv shows.

I have a Drobo with two 2 TB SATA drives where I store all my stuff and which is connected to my mini via firewire 800.

I've tried playing the same video back from both the Drobo and from the internal hard drive, to see if the choppiness was on account of the external drive or not. No difference really. A choppy video remains choppy from either place.

It's pretty strange because some 1080p videos play just fine, with no choppiness whatsoever, while other 720p videos or even standard definition divx files are still choppy.

Mac Pro :: Right System For Music Production?

Mar 11, 2009

I've been tracking this forum for about a year now reading some great discussion on 2008 MacPro and actually held off buying one b/c of the comments recommending waiting for the new 2009 MacPro. So I did, and now I've been reading a lot of less than excited posts about how this is a step backwards in the price vs speed camp. Rather than hijacking a thread that is really providing a lot of great discussion on benchmarks and other more general pros/cons of 2008 vs 2009 I wanted to get some advice on a very specific request. I produce music on a PC now which is way past it's prime. Originally I spec'd a 2008 model and was prepared to buy with my company discount when I was advised to wait until the new 2009 MP came out. Right now the cost is equal for a 2009 system (with my corp discount) and a used/refurb 2008 system so $$$ can't help me make a decision. The machine I'm spec'ing is

* Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
* 8GB (4x2GB)
* 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
* NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB
* One 18x SuperDrive
* Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter

My question is, is this the right move for my specific needs? I run Cubase, Ableton Live, and mainly Native Instrument plug ins (synths) In terms of hyperthreading and quad vs. octo cores: will I even be able to realize this potential given my software? Is there any value in trying to sink in the large amount to take me to 2.66 or 2.93 Octo 2009? As I understand it, music on a Mac relys more on Ram (number of effects and synths that can run without latency) vs. raw CPU speed. But I've even heard debate on that. If all things are equal I'd rather take advantage of my corporate discount as well as emerging technology.

Mac Mini :: Burning Music CD Fails?

Jun 21, 2012

I tried variety of CD-R's (Verbatim, Memolex, Maxell, Office Deipot brand, etc) . Sometimes Memolex works with very low speed (2X), but most of times fails with other brands.

What I saw is that iTunes prepared songs successfully but after start burning progress bar didn't move at all (for tens of minutes) and looked waiting for response from CD-R devices.

I tried with 2 machines below.

1. Mac mini (Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 1GB memory) with PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K06RS: (replaced from factory part), OS 10.5.8

2. Macbook (Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 2GB memory) with HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS21N (LG?) (Apple shipping device), OS10.5.8

iTunes version is 10.6.3.

IMac :: Streaming Music Videos From Mini To PS3

Mar 22, 2009

This will be easier if you know my setup, so here goes:

Computers: Mac mini (not a new one) (10.5.6)
Dell XPS 410 (Vista Home Premium)
Dell Studio 540 (Vista HP x64)
Router: Belkin N+ (4 gigabit ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n)
Connection Type: Mac (AirPort to the router)
XPS 410 (Ethernet) 540 (N+ USB adapter)
Other devices: PS3 (a few more, but they're not relevant).

Here's what I want to do. I want to stream some video, maybe music, from my mini to the PS3. For free. I was thinking since the PCs can connect to the PS3, that I could use one of those a catalyst.

Mac Mini :: Music Production - Deal With Heat Under Stress?

Sep 11, 2010

I'm eyeing the mini right now because os x >>> windows for music (inherent midi drivers instead of 3rd party, stability, etc etc).amittedly I currently run a hackintosh on a previously windows pc. It is stable with the exception of gfx crashes every few hours and its inability to use the gfx card to its full extent. This gets to me though and is kind of a bitch. So I'm thinking about getting a mini when I have the money for one. I would get the standard with the 4gb ram option. How well does it deal with heat under stress? and is the HDD 7200 rpm for the non server edition?(edit: roarrrr just read that its 5400, so lame)

ITunes For Mac :: Sync Music From IPad Mini To New MacBook Pro?

Aug 29, 2014

So I already had an iPad mini which was synced to an iTunes account on a Dell laptop running Windows. However, the laptop which it was synced to broke down and I am unable to switch it on so I decided to purchase a 2014 MacBook Pro Retina, which I received a couple of days ago.

I set up the laptop and I created an iTunes account with the same Apple ID as my iPad.

I then purchased a couple of songs on that iTunes account. I then tried to sync the music from my iPad to my new library and visa-versa, but I got the message warning me that it would erase all of the songs on my iPad.

How would I be able to transfer the purchases from my iPad to the library without losing anything?
