Applications :: Tunes Has Grown To Become Bulky And Complex?

At the cusp of reaching its 10th version, iTunes has grown to become bulky and complex with too many functions scattered around. It's lost its characteristic Apple simplicity.
Just like iMovie and Quicktime were rebooted as a blank slate in their new versions, iTunes is due for a rewrite from the ground up.
I propose taking inspiration from the best glimpse of Apple's vision of the future (iPad) and applying it to iTunes.
This is a collaborative effort so please feel free to take what I've done and refine it.

In a given document, is it possible to tell Pages to select, for example, all the text that uses the Mistral font? Or all the text that is size 16?

I don't know when it happened but in a recent update of itunes I lost my "convert to_____" option. It's not in my import settings. They are set to MP3. But regardless, I don't have ANY convert options. This is a serious pain if they got rid of this feature. Anyone else having this issue or know what's up?

Is there a way to bring up a 'form' to do a search*, so I can type in, for example, start and/ or end dates for the files I am interested in, or types of files, or a word in a file, or a part of the folder 'tree' its beneath, etc?? I know I can do this in spotlight but then I have to know, remember or lookup all the syntax and get it correct, much too much hassle for infrequent searches.
I'm presuming someone must have come up with a simple app that front ends a potentially complex spotlight query with a form? Or is there even a native facility to do this in OSX?
* Like you can in WinXP for example, not that I'm trolling, its just that it was sooo much easier in XP and I'm hoping I'm missing something obvious :-(

Since updating Safari to version 5.1.3 and later (now 5.1.5) my HP 2605dn printer balks on printing some Web page with the error message, "Document too complex to print" and I have to recycle the power and empty the print queue. This wasn't a problem before as it printed any page Safari sent it. I'm wondering if others are having this same problem with Safari. There are some Web pages I have to print independent of others and some which just won't print anymore.

i've used automator for very simple projects, like batch resizing, batch renaming and the like. however, what i'd really like to do is set up system where at a pre-appointed time every day, my computer visits a newspaper website, downloads the digital edition as a pdf (there is a clickable link to do this), then uploads said pdf onto my idisk. then all i need to do is download it on my iPad. that i can manage! am i able to do this with automator? am i able to do this at all?

I have ripped all my Cds into iTunes, but in starting to make playlists it is apparent that some artists are listed multiple times as they appear with different bands, and others do not appear at all.I have tried searching different categories, compilations etc, and Finder box does not bring them up.Do I need additional software to manipulate my tunes in iTunes?How can I re arrange the tunes so that they appear only under one artist? How do I make my "lost" artists tunes appear?

I have a Mac Book and when I import tracks from a CD into iTunes instead of grouping them all together with the album cover showing, it scatters them all over the list of existing tunes in a haphazard manner.

Since yesterday mourning my I-tunes keeps freezing...I tought it was my i-pod so i restore it n now i cant sync the song back to it...I try re downloding i-tunes, but was in vain...so now I dont know how ot reput my song back to my ipod, since itunes keeps freezing every time I try!

I am on a Mac running iTunes 10.6.1.I need an easy way to scan the entire library looking for unconected tunes.I discovered three by accident and my guess is there are others.My library currently consists of almost 800 albums so there are possibly close to 5000 tunes, too many to check one by one.I saw references to Windows based tools but I couldn't find anything for the Mac. I am betting something is out there but I need a pointer.

I just recently purchased my first mac (Black Macbook W/ Free Ipod Touch) about 2 weeks ago after growing up using windows and after getting used to a mac life i am loving the switch. I have the mini DVI to VGA adapter so i can hook my mac up to my 40" Samsung LCD and would like to get audio coming through my home theater for movies as well as just listening to music as the laptop speakers just dont cut it. Does air tunes play whatever audio comes from your mac or just specifically your iTunes library?

I am planning to purchase the 2012 iMac when it's released. I currently have a 2010 iMac with 4670M which I sometimes play games on. At the moment I switch to Boot Camp for playing Windows games. I wonder if I could just use Parallels with the 2012 iMac, with its more powerful hardware, to avoid rebooting each time I want to play a game. Do you think this would work well with "graphically complex" Windows games like Rage, Stalker, DiRT Showdown, even Battlefield 3? Is there DirectX 11 support?Â

I'm having weird Air Tunes drop out issues after some recent hardware changes.I've been using he same Airport Express for 5 years now. No issues. Yesterday I got a new MBpro and suddenly I started having issues with the Air tunes. When playing music from the new computer to the Airport Express, it works fine until... Any serious downloading occurs, any new computer joins the network, or any iphone tries to manage the iTunes library via remote.

Sorry for the incredibly stupid question, but I just got the gfxCardStatus application for my i5, and was wondering whether turning on the NVIDIA video card will make applications like Mail, Firefox, etc. faster?
I read something about OpenCL, but am not really sure whether it works for all applications.
I find that turning on the NVIDIA card, instead of using the integrated Intel one, makes my laptop hotter.

however it seems that there is a mac edition and a pc edition license for each program.

how to not have the disc image appear on my desktop when I open applications that I downloaded. For example I downloaded wondershare dvd ripper and everytime I open it the disc image shows up on my desktop and I cant eject it without quitting the application. This is now happening with every application I open and it never happened before.

My dad was saving a bunch of Word docs on his Mac - he had one large file that he split up into twenty-some smaller files, which he then saved onto both his desktop and on a flash drive. Somehow along the way (neither he nor I had any clue how) but 4 of those files saved as an alias that point to nowhere. In other words, I can't find the originals anywhere on his computer or flash drives.
Even stranger is that one of those files aliased to the Applications folder. Keep in mind these are all supposed to be word documents. They all still end with .doc, but their type is an alias. I have no clue how they were created as an alias, but they were. It's probably a longshot without knowing where the original is located, but do any of you guys know how to possibly retrieve this?

I have a friends MacBook running 10.6.8 2.26Ghz Intel Core Duo 8 gig ram. I have installed UnrarX a couple of times with no errors in the installation process, however the application does not appear in the applications folder or any where else and cannot find it to open .rar files.Â
I fixed the issue by simply copying the UnrarX app from my MacBookPro but would like to find out what is going on. I have been told by my friend that she has had this issue before.

When I open my Finder, inside my Applications folder I see...an Applications folder. And an "Applications copy" folder. All full of the same applications. Am I just seeing multiple mirrors of one Applications folder, or did I actually somehow duplicate all my applications?

I tested in my macbook and if you have a USB you can just go and copy any application in the usb. Then you just put it in you macbook and it works.

I recently reinstalled OSX 10.5.8 on my penryn MBP so I could make a larger XP bootcamp partition. After reinstalling leopard and restoring my whole system through time machine my computer is acting weird. First, "the file "itunes library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes". It didn't upgrade itunes to 9 till after I had done all the TM restoring. should be older, no? Second, adobe applications crashed. I was in AI working on a 500 mb file and BOOM, beach ball>crash. All other CS3 unable to open. I have 4 gigs of ram and some of the applications that would not open were not even in use at the time of the AI crash, could this be something with the TM backup? CS3 was all installed together.
Third. While this epic crash is happening on my desktop disappears. Just a blank desktop image. but wait, If I click were things used to be, Bam they appear out of no where, but only if I click where it is supposed to be. It's there in the desktop folder but not showing up as icons on my desktop. I think this has happened to me before the reinstall too, though never all at once, usually when I use the "pinchy" to resize icons one or two will disappear. Fourth. Cisco clean access agent beach balls and requires hard reset. the login window was floating on screen all the way till the screen turned off. These all happened in the same day, now It is working some what like normal, though my itunes is broke. Any ideas on how to fix this itunes? If I only need one application and it's plug-ins (SU and Podium beta) restored through TM ( i have a disk for all the others) is there a way to just restore the one. Would this give me a more stable system over all? should I go ahead and reinstall and restore the one app and do the rest manually?
