Intel Mac :: Is Parallels Suitable For "graphically Complex" Games
May 24, 2012
I am planning to purchase the 2012 iMac when it's released. I currently have a 2010 iMac with 4670M which I sometimes play games on. At the moment I switch to Boot Camp for playing Windows games. I wonder if I could just use Parallels with the 2012 iMac, with its more powerful hardware, to avoid rebooting each time I want to play a game. Do you think this would work well with "graphically complex" Windows games like Rage, Stalker, DiRT Showdown, even Battlefield 3? Is there DirectX 11 support?Â
I flashed this card according to pimpmolo instructions. The card boots and functions properly in both osx 10.6.4 and windows. However, I do have issues when playing graphically intense games. It doesn't appear to be a heat issue because a game might run for several hours or 30 seconds. When the card hangs the screen displays the image on the screen when the lock happened with an overlayed checkerboard pattern.
At that point I have to power off the machine. Can someone look at my modified rom that I flashed to double check?
What is the Best way to play PC only games on a mac. From what I have read I assume Boot Camp is the best, but am not quite sure. If I wanted to go the virtualization route, which would be better for gaming, VMware Fusion or Parallels?
With winter break approaching I was planning to get some PC games(COD:MW2, Battlefield etc) and play them during break but I'm not sure which software would be best to play those games. I've looked at VM Fusion, Parallels and Bootcamp but I'm still not sure as to the advantages and disadvantages of each. Is there a way i can use a playstation 2 controller to play pc games running through bootcamp? I've heard that I need some kind of an adapter but I've been unsuccessful in finding one so far.
I have been thinking of purchasing Parallels. I have some games that play great in Windows 7 via Bootcamp on my iMac (see sig) but play horribly in Parallels. I understand that BootCamp is the far superior solution, but I do enjoy the ability to switch between Snow Leopard and Win7 on the fly. My question is really around whats holding me back. I am using the trial version of Parallels. Is it Parallels, my RAM (I have 2GB alotted to Win7) or because it emulates a video card I believe? These aren't intense games... things like Icewind Dale and Diablo II.
I recently installed windows 7 32 bit via bootcamp. When I run the bootcamp partition via parallels games like warcraft 3 and ancient wars sparta boot up properly. The games run very slowly in parallels so when I go to run them in bootcamp from that same partition it gives me errors and they won't open. Warcraft 3 says something about directx not being able to initialize. I installed all of the drivers for windows and directx 11 is installed. I've also read online that a fix would be to go to the dxdiag.exe and enable shading or something but when I go to the utility there is no option to disable/enable. I'm really lost and would hate to reinstall everything. Could it be because i installed the games via parallels and not bootcamp the first time?
I am looking around for a reasonably priced PC monitor to use as an extended desktop/palette monitor for my iMac 27".I have a range of video adaptors so should be able to connect to most cables but it seems that PC monitors these days come with VGA/HDMI connectors and I am not finding many with DVI which would be my preference. I understand HDMI is basically for TV/Video connections, how good is it for a computer display?
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), The closest you'll ever get to there, is here.
My iMac has iChat installed so I downloaded the package for an update to iChat. When I try to run the package it comes to a disk selection and shows a yellow spot on every drive I have on my machine and a remark saying "Disk is not suitable"
I am Web Design student, and being taught to Design websites with Dreamweaver, creating tables. More and more i read that using Dreamweaver, being a WYSIWYG editor, how its unprofessional, mediocre and a turn off to potential clients, and that more and more fellow Web Designers "look down" on ones who use such programs instead of raw code. I create really nice, graphically pleasing Intranet pages in my home, but am i going about being a web designer all wrong? I do use a mixture of Coda and PageSpinner for quickly editing the date an text, But my whole "Building" and "Designing" is based off Fireworks graphics/buttons and Dreamweaver tables. What do you use? is my "Idea" of Web Designing an Illusion?
Is there a way to bring up a 'form' to do a search*, so I can type in, for example, start and/ or end dates for the files I am interested in, or types of files, or a word in a file, or a part of the folder 'tree' its beneath, etc?? I know I can do this in spotlight but then I have to know, remember or lookup all the syntax and get it correct, much too much hassle for infrequent searches.
I'm presuming someone must have come up with a simple app that front ends a potentially complex spotlight query with a form? Or is there even a native facility to do this in OSX?
* Like you can in WinXP for example, not that I'm trolling, its just that it was sooo much easier in XP and I'm hoping I'm missing something obvious :-(
Since updating Safari to version 5.1.3 and later (now 5.1.5) my HP 2605dn printer balks on printing some Web page with the error message, "Document too complex to print" and I have to recycle the power and empty the print queue. This wasn't a problem before as it printed any page Safari sent it. I'm wondering if others are having this same problem with Safari. There are some Web pages I have to print independent of others and some which just won't print anymore.
At the cusp of reaching its 10th version, iTunes has grown to become bulky and complex with too many functions scattered around. It's lost its characteristic Apple simplicity.
Just like iMovie and Quicktime were rebooted as a blank slate in their new versions, iTunes is due for a rewrite from the ground up.
I propose taking inspiration from the best glimpse of Apple's vision of the future (iPad) and applying it to iTunes.
This is a collaborative effort so please feel free to take what I've done and refine it.
i've used automator for very simple projects, like batch resizing, batch renaming and the like. however, what i'd really like to do is set up system where at a pre-appointed time every day, my computer visits a newspaper website, downloads the digital edition as a pdf (there is a clickable link to do this), then uploads said pdf onto my idisk. then all i need to do is download it on my iPad. that i can manage! am i able to do this with automator? am i able to do this at all?
My games have gone away from my launchpad. Instead my dock shows up. Where have my games gone to? I know they are in my download, but it was so much easier in my launchpad.Â
I downloaded Adobe Shockwave Player, but when trying to launch a downloaded Shockwave game, it opens a DOS dialog box as a text file instead. I have just purchased a new iMac from being a lifelong Windows user.Â

I am a Windows user , An old user since 90's , Yesterday I was really impressed by the new iMac the OS and its smoothness and responsiveness and the sleek interface , I am thinking seriously to switch to Mac but the problem is most games and multimedia apps are not working with the Mac ,major games like GTA IV and FIFA 12 are not compatible and the companies need to make a special version for Mac like Office and Norton So apart from being here in Apple forum ..What's the right decision should I take ..switiching to Mac or waiting for Windows 8 to release ?
Recently my iMac has been overheating while I'm playing a game. I hear the fan running and the body of the Mac gets really hot where I can't touch it I have Smc fan control.
Is there a way to force Safari to print what I see on a webpage, and not default to the print style? I'm trying to print a graphically-rich site and the print.css doesn't cut it, making everything look like trash (unformatted text, etc.).
i have a simple game that i am trying to play but i can't it says running low on space. i know my computer can handle this simple game because i have a imac with a quad core processor and 8 gigs of ram and 1 gig video card is it something i am missing.
I like to play games such as Castleville by zynga but it constantly freezes, i have adobe flash player, but still it does the same then the colured ball keeps spinning round and round. I have tried uninstalling and installing flash player as it told me to do but to no avail, I am starting to think that there is something wrong with the computer, but it is not that old. I am using Mac OS X version 10.6.8 intel core 2 duoÂ
If I have 2 tabs open in safari and try to open 2 facebook games like farmville and hidden chronicles I get the coloured wheel and safari locks up and I have to force quit.
