how to not have the disc image appear on my desktop when I open applications that I downloaded. For example I downloaded wondershare dvd ripper and everytime I open it the disc image shows up on my desktop and I cant eject it without quitting the application. This is now happening with every application I open and it never happened before.

this is my first issue with this computer so i'm pretty worried... is there any way i can force it to eject? i mean, without damaging anything...
I feel stupid for asking this but why do some applications leave a disk image on the desktop after it is installed? you can eject it and it goes away but then reappears every time you launch the program again. I noticed this happens mainly with applications you get off the web such as Google Earth. It is very annoying because I like to keep my desktop clean. So my question is how do you avoid having this disk image appear every time Google Earth launches for example. Is it normal for some programs? or did I install it wrong?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIf I download a torrent in firefox vuze automatically opens (because that's what I have set it to do under the application tab in preferences). But I'm using safari, as my primary browser, and I would like for safari to associate torrents with vuze/transmission in the same way.
When I download a torrent from, say, mininova the torrent is downloaded to my downloads folder and is visible in the safari download window (with the azureus icon) - but I manually have to open the torrent for vuze to start downloading. So the torrent is associated to vuze, but it doesn't automatically start downloading.

When opening it says it cannot open the file - parsing.. yet my mac system can see the image in ta thumbnail just fine.
I have a password protected disk image that mounts, but when I mount it there's a lock that shows up in the icon and I can't access the contents- "The folder "Disk Image" could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges." When I Get Info it has my account, (unknown) and "everyone" all set with custom access. Ignoring ownership does nothing, and I can't change the permissions. I can't get at it via Terminal, and sudo chmod doesn't work either. How can I get at the contents of this disk image?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI guess it's a change with Snow Leopard, but now when I download a .nzb file and try to open it I get the warning message that it's 'an unknown application downloaded from the Internet' (which, of course, it is not) and I have to manually open that. A .nzb file is not an app, but an executable file (launches NZB Drop, for me). The fact is I don't think I've ever had the message fire and not want to open it. I'd prefer to just disable it all together.
I just switched to a Mac a few hours ago after using a PC for years. I downloaded Firefox for Mac, and it works fine. The only thing is I have a disc drive of it on my desktop, as well as an icon on the bar. I have mounted the drive and dropped the icon into the applications folder, exited Firefox completely and was successful at "ejecting" the drive so it left my desktop. The thing is, when I went back and opened Firefox, that drive thing came back and it asked me if I wanted to run the application or something like that. Is there any way I can get Firefox to open normally and run without that driver thing on the desktop.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded the intel version of KisMAC and I've been trying to open up a WEP wireless network, they problem i am having is i keep getting an error "no Injection driver, please select one from the preference dialog" but i can't seem to find anything about injection drivers in the preference dialog. i started the scan but i can't de-authenticate or authenticate flood or anything, can someone tell me what im doign wrong?
secondly, there is 15 SSID's found by KisMAC and one of them is "FBI_SURVEILANCE_CC64" and 2 <any ssid> and their type is "probe" whatever that means, everyone else's says "managed"
I have my PowerBook G4 connected to a Hitachi video projector, using a DVI to VGA adapter.
The problem is that the only projected image I can see is that of my Desktop image. It doesn't display the Dock, menus or any windows.
What settings do I need to change?
I recently right clicked a picture to set it as my desktop picture but didn't have the foresight to save the picture in case I wanted to change it later. I still have the picture up but I cannot find where the picture is stored so I can save it for later. I checked HD/Library/desktop pictures but no luck. Does anyone know where these pictures are saved?

I think it has to do with my mac being an older version (mac a1181 2.4/2x 1G/ 160) with mac osX 10.6 but version of iinkscape is the latest I think (0.48.2-1-snowleopard.dmg)

My G-4 startup disc is full and now the computer won't start up. I am told to put a startup disc in the drive and restart from it, but I cannot get the disc drive to open. I have tried everything, including copying over to external hard drive. I read that if you hold the mouse button down, the disc drive will open, but this hasn't worked.

I have a few programs on their original DVD discs that I want to put on another computer w/ a broken disc drive. In theory, can I create a disc image w/ the disc utility program, copy that file onto an external hard drive, and then put it on the other computer that way and have the program as workable "disc" (but it will really just be the image of the disc). On a side note, if I got a new disc drive on that computer, would I still be able to burn that file to a DVD disc in the future to create an exact replica?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I had to have my macbook pro HDD replaced (applecare) and I made a disc image backup beforehand and put it on my external HDD.
I just picked it up from the apple store today, and called tech support for help with restoring it from the disc image. I was instructed to put the install disc in and boot holding the 'c' key, then go to disc utilities, to the restore tab, find the image as a source, and then drag the internal HDD volume to the destination field. It didnt work, so I was transferred to a senior advisor, who told me to do the same thing. The only time it would work is if I dragged the indented one that reads "Macintosh HD" instead of the one with the GB size and brand name. The senior advisor told me that it wouldnt work for him either (dragging the volume) and dragging the macintosh HD isnt how it's supposed to work, so he couldnt guarantee a proper result. It didnt work anyway. I dont remember the error message.
So he starts telling me that the best option might be to install the operating system from the discs, update to 10.5.8, and then just copy the "user" folder and then move everything where it is supposed to be. I wasnt particularly impressed and I'm not convinced that it has to be that difficult or time consuming.
All I am trying to do is transfer ISO disc image over to an external Usb Hard dive. Any time I attempt to drag the file over I receive an error that says " Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. (Error code 0)

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought a brand new 2.4ghz imac. I went to transfer data. Hooked it up with the firewire. When I tried to restart while pressing "t" the g4 made the happiness sound and ran for a bit then clicked off. Kept trying, got "there are no discs with osx on your computer" and some other error messages. The g4 starts up fine and runs otherwise. When I tried to do it with the migration assistant it told me that I have to be running the latest os on the g4. Well, according to mac, I can't f'ing run the latest os on the g4 because the machine only runs at 800 mhz.

I downloaded a movie (had to because I can't get it where I live, Waltz with Bashir) I knew it was in a different language but I didn't expect there to be no subtitles, so I found a site that had them but now I don't know how to add them, they are in the same folder as the movie, but if I go to Quicktime it says there are no subtitles.

I installed Windows 7 32-bit Home edition on a 200gb partition using Bootcamp. I am installing and tweaking the Windows installation and would like to take a snapshot of the system after I have installed all programs and settings.
I used Acronis True Image 2011 on my previous Dell laptop to take a disc image of my installation then used that on subsequent reinstallations using an Acronis boot disc and disc image accessed from a USB hard drive.
How can I reinstall the disc image of an Aronis True Image partition on a Macbook Pro 13" 2010 if part of the drive has OSX? Could I boot from an Acronis boot CD then reinstall the Windows partition on the MBP?
