I was wondering if there was any good software out these days to backup blu-ray discs into an itunes compatible HD format. I finally started buying some blu-ray titles and want to be able to have a compact backup in itunes and view them while traveling with my MacBook. I would already be fine with a Windows solution since I use bootcamp for DVD backup anyways.
View 2 RepliesI just bought a new iomega external drive that I would like to format to be a bootable backup drive. (I'm not sure if I'll use rsync or TimeMachine yet for doing the actual backups).
Should I format it using DiskUtility or TimeMachine? Will TimeMachine create a bootable backup?
So I got a bit surprised after I installed iTunes 10 that I can't adjust the artwork in list view bigger! Anyone else noticed this? In iTunes 9 you could just drag the bar besides the artwork and it would increase as much as you liked. Now if you click on Album by artist you can choose artwork small - medium - large, but it's not big enough!

Can I just install a fresh copy of ITunes and hit sync and it will copy all apps/music/videos/contacts/settings/etc... from the phone back into ITunes? If not, Is there any program that can backup the entire phone and reintegrate it back into ITunes so that I can sync my phone normally?

And it fixes some of my songs, but not all. It says "unknown format" for some MP3.
If I make a file on gurageband, how do I turn it into a itunes file, I've saves it, then changes it to like. ".mp3" but that only saves my vocals, and I want to save the whole song. (with beats, etc.)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI run a small home network with mostly Windows computers but now with my new Mac Mini included. Right now I am backing up two of the computers separately and a few not at all. I am looking into a networking backup hard drive such as a Seagate Black Armor or WD World Edition.
My question is whether I can backup all the computers on the network or if the Mac will not be backed up because of the different hard drive formats on the computers.
If the network backup drive is foratted using NTFS, will it be able to backup and restore to the Mac as necessary. Will the Mac be able to read/write to the network backup drive as necessary?
So basically trying to format my Macbook pro, I guess I deleted the software on my computer as well. I didn't back my computer up. All that shows, is a gray screen with a folder with a question mark on it. I have the OS installation disk on an external CD-ROM drive and all that pops up when it's plugged in is the apple logo. Ive tried CMND-R, CMND-C, CMND-V, and just simply pressing the option button at startup and nothing has seemed to work, i end up at the same screen. When I just did the option, it gave me the opportunity to use the disk, but it goes right back to the apple screen.

I want to backup my itunes library, but it says that I need to install a blank disk. Is there a way to backup the library to an external harddrive instead?
EDIT: I tried this... please tell me if this was the correct thing to do. I basically just went to Finder > Music > iTunes and dragged that whole "iTunes" folder to my external harddrive that was plugged in... and its copying it now
I try to backup all my tracks purchased on iTunes, but the Back Up button does not work (see image). When I press it, nothing happens. Same for the Cancel button. iTunes does not 'hang' though, because I can close the dialog with the cross mark in the upper right corner, and I can choose other combinations in the dialog (which I do not really want). Does anybody have the same issue? I'm using Windows XP (SP3) with the latest version of iTunes (9.0.1.8). I am able to burn DVD's using other software so that should not be the problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just replaced my hard drive today. I booted it up and went to disk utilities to format it and all of that. When I finished I went to restore system from back up and plugged in my external hard drive and the computer said there was no history of back up from Time Machine. This was strange because before I formated the hard drive and tried to restore the information, it recognized that there was back up information. I decided I would re-install the os and try again.

I just did an erase and install of the OS on the MacBook and am working on restoring things from my Time Capsule backup. In order to get my iTunes back the way it was so I don't have to start all over, what do I need to copy over?
So far, I've copied the following:
~/Music
~/Library/iTunes
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync
Are there any other directories / files that need to be copied over? I'm trying to avoid having to set up my phone, playlists, genius info, etc all from scratch. Do I also need to copy the iTunes application itself from the backup or should I be able to use the fresh one installed from Software Update? They are both iTunes 9.2.
Looks like in syncing my iPad, it tries to place the backup of my device in MobileSyncBackup on my C boot drive, which is an SSD without space, even when my iTunes install and iTunes library folder is in my 2 TB D drive.
Is there any way to permanently make iTunes place its backup elsewhere?
When I was setting up the MBP, I opted to restore from a Time Machine backup and expected everything to go off without a hitch.
When I opened iTunes though, everything was blank -- no songs or videos were listed at all. My playlists were still there though but also blank.
When I checked my Music folder in Finder, everything was still there so I tried manually adding one mp3 to see if it would show up on iTunes. iTunes just played the mp3 but it still wouldn't show up in the Music list.

View 5 Replies View RelatedBasically somehow my iTunes got jacked up.. just the music part of it.. Anyway, they are all songs from my CDs or mp3's, but just as a failsafe, I would like to backup my entire iTunes library to my external hdd.
I would then like to delete all the songs from my iTunes, and from my iPhone. *edit* figure'd out how to remove all the songs from my iphone.. just unchecked all songs and sync'd.. now I just need to backup itunes and delete everything from it, then reput what I want back into itunes and resync.. sweet
After which, I would like to rebuild my iTunes library using my mp3's and CD's and basically start from scratch.. so that this time around I can properly name songs/albums/artwork/etc
Then I want to take this new iTunes library, and fill my iPhone back up with my new Library in Itunes..

i use 1 external tb to back up everything
i back up about 725 gb if stuff and when i go to run my TM it tells me i only have 150 or so GB of space to back up the aforementioned 725gb.
Maybe i misunderstood TM, but cant i back up multiple days without using the same size of backup? i.e. i back up january 1st, december 1st and november 1st and it wont need 2.175 TB of space?

My iTunes playlists used to give a precise total play time. Now that I downloaded the new version of iTunes, the playlist just estimates the time. So, "1 hour" could mean 1 hour and 2 or 3 or 4 minutes. That is a big problem for people who teach 60-minute fitness classes! I plan my class around that playlist, and 3 or 4 minutes is a big deal. Now I am having to add up the time of songs by hand. What a pain! Is there any way to get back the old format of time, which estimated exactly "59 minutes" or I think it was more precise, like "00:59:12." I need this format back. The estimate of "1.1 hours" is killing me.
