But it appears that i need Quicktime 7 to be able to get this?
But my system is not letting me Download quicktime 7 because I have Quicktime X

The wife accidentally deleted Safari and Quicktime from our iMac but Apple.com only offers these programs for Snow Leopard and Lion. How can I get these programs back? Is there maybe a third party? Can I use either of the DVD's that came with the Mac? If so, how can I choose to only install said programs without necessarily reinstalling all of the OS X and risk losing picture and movie files?

But web developers have become wily it seems. No longer do the old methods appear to work. I've tried: Apps for downloading youtube videos, using the Activity window in Safari (only a small SWF file of about 21kb appears in the activity window), numerous Firefox plugins� To no avail.
There are apparently apps for Windows that can manage to download these tricky types of videos, is there anything or any method on the Mac? I've been ripping my hair out trying. I've searched the forum, but none of the suggested methods work.
When downloading small files online they will download through Speed Download. Before I installed Speed Download it would just download through the regular downloading client. How do I change it back to using the regular one as standard? I use firefox btw

They freeze up, or run in slow motion while the sound track continues without any problem. I've seen other related comments on this forum, but no one has suggested a fix yet. I can play my clips just fine from the finder menu using "Quick Look". Other videos from the same camera work, what has changed?

I edited a screen recording video (shot with QuickTime) with iMovie. Added chapters but when EXPORT - USE QUICKTIME and set properites to HD format, once done (5 hours) chapters are not available in Quicktime. I read that when exporting to tiny video format, chapters are not available but here I' exportin to an HD format.

I have a 2.4 Ghz MacBook Pro (4GB Ram, 256 MB video card). I have OS X 10.5.1 clean install. Within the last couple weeks I have noticed that if I play 720p or 1080p video files in quicktime that the frame rate is noticeably decreased, you can see that the movement is not very smooth. This goes for WMV and Quicktime files. I have restarted the computer and repaired permissions. If I look in activity monitor, there are no processes running with substantial CPU usage. If I look at the movie inspector while the video is playing, it says that it is at the encoded FPS (i.e. if the video is at 24 it fluctuates at or above 24 for playing FPS), even though it is clearly not that high.

so, I have downloaded quicktime player from Apple.com and tried to install quicktime player 7.
BUT it says i can't install quicktime player 7 because I already have quicktime X on my computer.
I can't find it at all on my computer.

How can I re-install my quicktime or even find it?
So I've got some movies in .avi that I want to open in QT but it obviously dosen't recognize the format. I tried flip4mac but that dosen't seem to be working either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a real odd problem with safari 4. For some reason it is cutting my download speeds in about 1/2 from my server and many other places.
If I restart safari I will be able to download close to my 18 Mbps for a little bit but then it will just start to slow down and after about 30 minutes it will be down to about 6 - 8 Mbps.
The underlying issue here as well is that iDVD won't recognize this file either.
My wife works for a TV station and one of the editors at the station put a video file together with Final Cut Pro and put it on our external hard drive.
The file is just over 3 gig and won't open in Quicktime. It WILL open in VLC, but I need to get it in a format that iDVD will recognize because I created a DVD menu for this video and want to add it to my DVD project.
I have some other videos she recently brought home as well in the same .mov format but they are smaller, around 800 MB and those will not play in Quicktime either, but they are recognized by iDVD when I try to add a video the DVD project.
I'm guessing I'm missing a codec here and have tried a number of them but nothing seems to work. I was able to find a free converter that converted the file to .avi and it would then open in Quicktime, but there was a logo added to the video which makes it basically useless to us.
So my questions are-
1) Is it simply too big a file for Quicktime to play? What is the max file size it will play?
2) Is there possibly a codec I'm missing here that I haven't tried yet?
3) What else could the problem be?
How would I go about watching a .rar video using Quicktime? Or is there another program I should use?
