Applications :: How To Create A Perfect Audio Cd Copy

Jan 16, 2010

I am a music freak so, as many of you may understand, I spent a lot of time with cds, vinyls, itunes and all the beautiful things involving these stuff.

The problem is that:

I want to create a perfect copy of my cds. I use XLD and I encode my cds into .WAV a single .WAV file with it's .CUE. However, when I burn these .WAV files to an audio cd, there is a tiny problem. When I switch to the next song for example from track 1 to track 2 or from 3 to 4 etc track 2 starts a second lets say after it should be (like in the original cd). However, if you hear the whole cd, it sounds perfectly there are no stops between songs etc.

The procedure I follow is this:

1. Open XLD

2. Encode the cd into .WAV as a single file with .CUE

3. Open .CUE file with text edit, and I change the FILE "01 Unknown Artist - Unknown Title.wav" WAVE to FILE "01 Unknown Artist - Unknown Title.bin" BINARY

4. Open Toast

5. I drag the .CUE file there

6. Burn

Applications :: Using ITunes To Create Digital Archive Of Audio CDs

Jun 1, 2010

I've been wanting to create a digital archive of all my music. I want to accomplish two things
1. Put all my CDs in their original quality on my hard drive and regularly back it up. Hopefully, once this is done, I can discard all of my CDs or put them away in a hard to reach box, thereby reducing clutter.
2. Have all of my songs easily accessible via a iPod/iPhone/etc. I have only about 150 CDs.
I'm a PC user, but am thinking about getting a Mac Book Pro. As of now, it looks like iTunes and Windows Media Player would let me accomplish #1, but since I want to get #2 as well, I've decided to use iTunes. But I have a ton of questions and am hoping to get get some answers. Right now, I just pop the CD into the drive, and get iTunes to Import the CD with the only changes to the default being that I ask it to import to WAV (which is not the default). However, I use the default WAV settings.

Am I doing the right thing with respect to importing for best quality? Why does iTunes offer additional configuration for importing to WAV files? There are settings for sampling rate and such, although I'm just using the defaults for those. Would there be any difference at all between a rip using Windows Media Player and a rip using iTunes? I have enabled error correction in the "import settings". Is there a way to tell if there were no errors, if an error was encountered and corrected, or if an uncorrectable error was encountered, while importing a CD? For many of the CDs that I've imported so far, Apple does not seem to have the artwork. Is there a recommended place to get artwork for iTunes and what would be the procedure for adding artwork? After I have imported a CD in WAV, how do I convert that to something smaller that I can then download to an iPod? Is it possible for iTunes to keep the song in multiple formats?

OS X :: Create Bootable Copy Of SN Install Disk

Sep 6, 2009

I just purchased the SN 10.6 family pack and would like to make a backup of the Install DVD. I have several MACs in the family and want to make sure I have an extra disk in case something happens to the original. I have Toast Titanium and I believe I can make a copy of the disk. Will this be an exact copy and will it be bootable from the DVD drive on my iMac? Are there any special settings in Toast that I have to use.? I only recently purchased Toast and am not too familiar with it at this point.

ITunes :: Create Audio From Own DVD To It?

Apr 7, 2012

I would be able to record some DVDs from home video footage of my kids' singing performances and be able to put the DVD into my iMac and just create MP3s of the audio for my iTunes. I have never used my iTunes for things like videos.  I am only interested in making audio MP3s.  Do I have to use iMovie to do this?  Just checking before I bother to go buy a DVD recorder. Unless there's some other way to get the audio into my iMac?

OS X :: Notebook - Just Want To Copy Text Not Audio

Dec 15, 2009

I currently have lecture notes including audio saved in notebook layout in Word 2008 on my Mac. I am trying to send in an email just the text of the document - however when I copy and paste the text the email becomes too large because it seems to take the whole size of the document (e.g. text plus audio) which is sometimes as long as 8 hours worth of audio. Is there a simple way to copy just the text? I have tried converting the document into a different layout within Word (e.g. print layout) but this always ends up with Word crashing.

Applications :: Convert SWF Files To MP3 - Free Audio Extraction Or Video / Audio Converter Exist?

May 29, 2010

I want to convert some video files (specifically swf in this case) to audio files so I can listen on my iPod. I looked everywhere and can't find some free software that does that. There are tons that have trial periods with lots of limitations (like it won't convert anything larger than a 5k size file) so I don't want those because I won't know if the thing works well unless I pay for it. I'm not opposed to paying for a converter IF I know it works awesome on a Mac.

Applications :: Won't Work With Audio / Audio Skimming In IMovie 09

Apr 1, 2009

I'm using iMovie 09 with the very latest updates applied and I am having trouble with audio skimming in just one of my projects. The project is only 8 minutes long and is just a collage of pictures to music.
The audio skimming button is toggled to on but no green bars show in the equalizer when I skim over the video. The audio works fine when playing the project and in other windows around the project such as the event viewer. I have plenty of free hard drive space and the thumbnails slider is set to '5s'. ALL of my other projects skim no problem.

Now this is the strange part. If I click to enter the precision editor on any part of the video and then click done (even without altering anything) the skimming comes back. It thus disappears if place a new item in the timeline until I go back into the precision editor where it re enables itself.

MacBook Air :: What Specs Would Make It Perfect For College

Jun 17, 2012

I've decided I'm going to get a MacBook Air for college, but I want to make sure it's the best possible for my four years as an undergraduate so I don't have to get a new one over this time period. For the processor: how much of a speed difference will there be between the i5 and i7? I'm thinking the i7 will be a better choice, but I really don't know what the difference will be. For RAM: 4gb should be plenty for four years, right? Right now I have a late 2008 aluminum MacBook with only 2gb of RAM and only recently did I notice it to start getting slow. Storage: My biggest concern. Will 256gb last me four years? I will be bringing an external hard drive, but I plan on only really using that for Time Machine backups and storage for photos. Should I make the jump to 512gb?

Windows On Mac :: 7 Via Bootcamp - Perfect Install On Macbook Pro / Not Installing On Pro

Jun 17, 2009

I got the Windows RC1. I installed it perfectly with bootcamp on my macbook pro, no problems, no issues. On that install I partitioned the one and only drive in the notebook. I then went to install it on my Desktop mac pro. I wanted to allocate a complete drive to it, so I dropped in a WD blue in the 3rd bay. Formatted it, I tried both ways. Partitioning & dedicating the entire drive to windows 7. Neither worked. It started the install everything seemed normal until you get to the prompt screen to format the boot camp disk.

Hardware :: Perfect Apple Keyboard - Multitouch For Desktop Users

May 8, 2009

I'm bad at Photoshop. I really wish for the 3 user customizable keys, personally I would use the top two buttons for previous/next Space, and the bottom key to switch to my iTunes. And the trackpad to the right could be used for customizable multitouch gestures, so you can move around spaces easily, scroll with 2 fingers if you have a desktop and not a laptop, etc. I think it's very important that Apple includes multitouch for desktop users and not just laptop people.

MacBook Air :: STM Jacket Extra Small Laptop Shoulder Bag - "perfect Fit For 11"

Nov 9, 2010

I know theres a bunch of bag threads, but thouht I'd share another: [URL] At first I was only looking at just the "laptop space" specs for the Jacket Extra Small bag and it reads 7.6 x 11.8 x 1 in. If you compare that with the MBA specs, that would be an extremely tight fit, since the MBA is already at 11.8 in width.

I was going to email them until i just read the last bit on the product information: "Designed for most 11" netbooks and perfect fit for the 11" MacBook Air". I was so focused on specs that I missed this simple line of information. But anyway, for strictly MBA 11.6" users wanting something uber minimal, this seems like a pretty nice choice to add to the growing list of MBA 11" bags alongside sfbags.

OS X V10.4 :: Hdiutil Create Srcdevice Fails To Create Image

Feb 1, 2012

I want to create a disk image of a Mac drive (.dmg file).I figured that it might not be a good idea to try and image a live disk, so I unmounted it (the user dragged the disk icon to the eject icon), and I confirmed it was unmounted by looking at /Volumes. To be clear here, this isn't the boot volume, that is /dev/disk0./dev/disk1 is an internal drive - as it happens it's the original drive for this OSX 10.4 G5, AND /Volumes/HITACHI is the mount point for an external USB drive.I have tried this twice. On both occassions, things seemed to go well, but after a few minutes (about 10 - 20 minutes), I observed that the target file on /Volumes/HITACHI stopped growing, then a bunch of unpleasant stuff started to happen:

* I did lsof /Volumes/HITACHI/MacHD_20120201.dmg and found the PID of the diskimage binary, ps waux showed it was doing nothing (CPU% was 0.0). This indicates a stuck process to me.

* The hdutil command stopped producing '.'

* I could not cancel the hduitl command

* I could not rm the MacHD_20120201.dmg file

* I could not ls the /Volumes/HITACHI directory

* unlink also hung

A little further into this, the Mac became unresponsive. I observed that the disk was now mounted again (grrr!). As a work around I switched the USB drive off and on, and Mac came good - all my terminals started to respond, the GUI responded for the user.My workaround has been to use CCC to make a clone of the disk - but I don't like this because I think .dmg files are much more convenient (for a start, now that I've used CCC I can't use the USB drive for anything else).

* Is my methodology wrong? Do I really need to umount the /dev/disk1

* Can you disable finder from automounting an internal hard drive (I am particularly interested in this)
