Applications :: Audio Will Not Play In VLC - Mpga Audio Codec Needed?
Mar 7, 2010
I have searched a lot for this question and have not found an answer.
I am trying to play a .avi video on my MAC that was originally in .rar compressed format. I opened it in VLC, and the audio wont play.. so i checked the info and saw that:
video codec: XVID
audio codec: mpga
I have perian downloaded.. it doesnt seem to be doing anyting. I dont know if i've missed something in my extracting process of the .rar file.
I've installed Windows 7 (64bit) on my iMac (late 2010) and I don't have sound. I am running Boot Camp 3.3 and have already tried downloading the Realtek drivers (high definition audio codec).
Info: iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I need to transcribe audio files and need an application that will play audio files at double their rate (and half their rate) so that I can quickly go through audio files and then concentrate on the pertinent portions. Any applications for Mac OS X? Free is always good!
When I use some powerpoint presentation containing audio-visual info keynote always seems to prematurely end the audio part. Have tinkered with it a little, but can't seem to sort it out
I want to convert some video files (specifically swf in this case) to audio files so I can listen on my iPod. I looked everywhere and can't find some free software that does that. There are tons that have trial periods with lots of limitations (like it won't convert anything larger than a 5k size file) so I don't want those because I won't know if the thing works well unless I pay for it. I'm not opposed to paying for a converter IF I know it works awesome on a Mac.
I am a new Mac user, and I bought a mac for the main purpose of video editing. However, all my files are MPEG2, and so far, I have had a very frustrating experience with trying to figure out how to play it back on Quicktime with Audio. I downloaded Pro, as well as the MPEG2 add on. It plays video fine, but can someone please tell me how to get it to play audio step by step?
Lastly, I have Final Cut and iTunes and audio won't play with the video there either. I am assuming once I have it fixed in quicktime, it will work in all other programs too?
I'm using iMovie 09 with the very latest updates applied and I am having trouble with audio skimming in just one of my projects. The project is only 8 minutes long and is just a collage of pictures to music. The audio skimming button is toggled to on but no green bars show in the equalizer when I skim over the video. The audio works fine when playing the project and in other windows around the project such as the event viewer. I have plenty of free hard drive space and the thumbnails slider is set to '5s'. ALL of my other projects skim no problem.
Now this is the strange part. If I click to enter the precision editor on any part of the video and then click done (even without altering anything) the skimming comes back. It thus disappears if place a new item in the timeline until I go back into the precision editor where it re enables itself.
I am using iTunes with a Tascam US-122L audio interface. It worked perfectly fine until yesterday evening, and now iTunes absolutely refuses to play any music when the Tascam is connected. I click a song title and the diamond slider does not move, the song stays at 0:00, and the "play" button doesn't change to the "pause" button. It seemed to have started doing this after I exported a song into iTunes from Audio Hijack, which I downloaded to capture some audio from Logic Pro.
I've tried everything, from restarting my computer, to reinstalling the Tascam drivers to reinstalling iTunes.
iTunes works just fine except for the "playing songs" part, which is it's major selling point. It works perfectly fine when the Tascam isn't connected.
I've heard of a lot of people with similar problems but none of the solutions I've seen have worked. Anyone got any ideas?
as the title says. I have some AVI files that Quicktime doesn't want to play. it's telling me to go to this site that has different codecs but none of them work. I have that flip4mac program but it doesn't do anything either.
I've just tried DivX for Mac [URL] but found out that it doesn't support .srt subtitles. I'm already using Flip4Mac for .wmv files, but I'm looking for a codec pack to play all other codecs like Divx, Xvid, H.264 with subtitles support for .sub and .srt files. I know that Perian is a good one, but is there anyone better?
I listen to and watch a lot of podcasts. Quite often, after I am done listening to a Audio Podcast I will watch a video podcast. Some times it gets stuck and won't play the video but plays audio fine. Anyone else have this problem?
I've actually looked around the site and see others have had the same problem with their mac, unfortunately I don't have the technical expertise or the time to get stuck into the long winded and confusing steps required to sort this problem. There is no option for me to email an Apple worker and I didn't particularly want to post this here, but it seems it's either this or wait two days to have Apple call me... Not what I want at all.I have a Macbook Pro 13" late 2011, running OSX 10.7.2, which is two months old and in perfect condition. I upgraded from a Toshiba Satellite which cost me under £300 in 2008 and was excellent when it came to playing CDs... Funnily enough. After paying £999 on an admittedly fantastic laptop I am rather appalled that such an expensive piece of kit would be incapable of playing audio CDs when iTunes seems to be one of the largest selling points of the Macintosh. I am wondering if this fault is intentional as it may force iTunes users to resort to the iTunes store rather than importing CDs? I'm not expecting a solution to be posted on this thread, at least not one which I am capable of utilising, this is merely an attempt at venting my frustration over the issue seeing as I can't find an option to email Apple directly.

i have an Airport express hooked up to my Harman/Kardon soundstiks II.
My iTunes plays fine, but everything else plays on the computer speakers, which are not as fun.
does any one know how to get it so that all my audio plays through Airport to speakers, because I'm on a MBP, so being tied to the speakers is inconvenient.
I have vlc on my imac G3 as my primary video player, and i updated from quicktime 6 to 7, and now when i go to play videos in vlc i get audio but no video and a message saying quicktime doesnt have any of the appropriate chroma. i have tried everything: reinstalling VLC, downgradeing back to QT 6 (which it wont for some dumb reason).

I am somewhat a new person using a mac and I know this can be done with a windows computer. I was wondering if there is a way to play audio sources from my MBP to an iMac while using the speaker on both computers. Does it revolve around the "Audio MIDI Setup"? In my workplace I can play my music when the customers are not around or if it is after hours. I have my iMac at one side of the store but i'm unable to hear it when I walk into the back. I wonder if I can play my music, from both computer at the same time.
I was using my Mac mini last night and it played audio fine. (I have it hooked up to my HDTV in the living room.) However, this morning I went to watch a standup comedian and the audio wouldn't play. I rebooted. Removed the audio cord and plugged it back in. Took the video cord and plugged it back in.
Audio cord: composite Video: mini-DVI -> DVI -> HDMI
Nothing will play. There's no external speakers or anything, it's playing through the TV's built in speakers. Normal satellite TV will play audio as well.
I have an HDMI cord that connects to a mini display port and then to my mac. It plays the video on my tv but my TV won't play the auido. I can only hear the audio from my mac. Is it because my mac is an older model? Do I need to upgrade my OS or buy a new mac altogether?Â
Safari will not play the audio on Youtube videos. I unenrolled from the Safari HTML5 study (found as an answer to another question), but that did not work. Audio plays on Firefox.
i installed mobistealth in a mobile. the mobistealth is working very good ( the calls history, messages, GPS, photos history and call recording) BUT the call recordings have some problems. i tried to solve but i could not. some of the calls can open with quicktime but most of them i could not because they said they are codec. i tried to download codec programs but useless. i tried to install many programs other than quicktime also useless. i reomve quicktime 7 and reinstall quicktime6.3. i called realplayer team. they said i need to codec program.i do not understand how to solve this problem. if you need i can attach .3gp file.
Info: quicktime player , Windows XP, program mobistealth
I want to hook my Macbook Pro up to a Sony Bravia (not sure of the exact model). I went to the Apple Store, and was given these two items to hook it up. Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support. Belkin High Speed HDMI Cable - 6 feet
We successfully hooked it up last night, and the video worked. I was told in the store that this setup would not transfer audio, so I already knew there would not be sound coming from the TV, rather from the Macbook instead. My Q is: What's the easiest way to get audio to come from the TV? I'd rather not buy external speakers to plug in, if I can help it.
Trying to figure out if something is up with mine and a buddies machine specifically or they are all buggered....
Please post if you have an audio pop or click type sound that is intermittent (every few minutes or couple hours) on your i5 or i7 machine while playing audio through external speakers.
If you have it, please describe your situation as it occurs so we can perhaps isolate it:
I.e. Plugged in / on battery, programs running, usb plugged in, etc.
Mine happens whether on battery or not, iTunes, games, movies, Locked in video card...
I have attached my Mac mini to my Sony TV (to use as a moniter) - there hasn't been any trouble with the picture but I cannot get any sound. Â
I am using a VGA (I know that doesn't send audio over) plugged into the 'PC In' port at the back of my tv, and I am using an audio cable with a normal headphone-type jack on one end (going into the headphone port on the back of my mac mini) and the red/white cable going into the HDMI-in red/white ports on the back of my tv. I can't figure out what is going on - I tried plugging the red/white cables into all the input ports on the back of my tv, just in case, but no luck.Â
I am running Snow Leopard and after installation itunes was working. I noticed this afternoon that double clicking on a song would start the marker moving as if it were playing but there was no audio. I've tried replacing preferences but the problem continues. Ran repair permissions and I got the following message which I don't understand:
ACL found but not expected on "Applications/QuickTime Player.app". Repaired "Applications/QuickTime Player.app". Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
When I switch to a TEST user the music plays. When I log back into my user the music progress indicator is moving but there is no audio. Movies play with sound. Tried reinstalling iTunes but that didn't fix the issue. The only other thing I can think of is that I installed Quark 8.1 this afternoon. That could have screwed up the playback but I haven't a clue how that could happen.
One of the problems that myself and i'm sure many others have come across is getting audio to go to external speakers via the audio jack.
When i plug it in it says a device has been plugged into the audio jack and when i go into it, it brings up the line in tab, so just wondering if there was a solution yet or do we just have to put up with inbuilt speakers on our macs?
The last couple of months my 2 year old white Macbook does not read audio cd's anymore. Once in a while it will load one, most of the time the first after a restart, but after that every audio cd will be ejected after several attempts of my superdrive to load the cd. Data cd and dvd's play just fine, and cd-r's can also be burned, no problems there.
Is there a way to do that in snow leopard? I'm trying to get sound from a game, lets say, from my built in speakers, and quicktime movie sound from the tv that my mbp is plugged into (from the headphone jack basically) is there a way to do it at the same time?
Can I get an HDMI adaptor that will also play audio on my MacBookPro5,3?currently using a micro port adaptor to HDMI, but audio does not read through it.
