I'm looking for a program for mac that will allow me to create my own music, specifically electronic/dub music. I'm completely new to the whole idea of making music or being a DJ but I love dubstep and that kind of music.

A forum member has asked for information on how to create a new library for his music collection and below is my attempt to help. Having done this myself and never finding a complete step-by-step guide, I?ve attempted to make one of my own. Many others have helped me along the way so this is my way of giving back. Unfortunately, I don?t have my MBP right now and won?t have a Mac around for about two months. Please feel free to add feedback, tell me where I?m wrong, what?s missing or offer other ways of accomplishing these tasks. Once I get MR member input, I will update this post to reflect the best current practices for creating and maintaining two separate libraries for your lossless and lossy music collection. At the bottom of the post I list a couple of known issues and have a couple of questions so please chime in.
I have a lot of TV series that I have ripped into ipad compatible format. I want to be able to put them into a folder like a playlist for movies so I don't have to scroll forever to find them. If I need to use genre how do I tag the movies so they get sorted?

When I hit control click it offers option to create apple lossless version of this music. How can it create a lossless version when I ripped it at 128kbps? I don't understand.

At the moment most of my music is either stored on my Macbook or on an external hard drive. Is it possible to transfer all my music and videos to an external hard drive and then sync it with Itune so that every time I plug it in I can access them?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to create a disk image of a Mac drive (.dmg file).I figured that it might not be a good idea to try and image a live disk, so I unmounted it (the user dragged the disk icon to the eject icon), and I confirmed it was unmounted by looking at /Volumes. To be clear here, this isn't the boot volume, that is /dev/disk0./dev/disk1 is an internal drive - as it happens it's the original drive for this OSX 10.4 G5, AND /Volumes/HITACHI is the mount point for an external USB drive.I have tried this twice.On both occassions, things seemed to go well, but after a few minutes (about 10 - 20 minutes), I observed that the target file on /Volumes/HITACHI stopped growing, then a bunch of unpleasant stuff started to happen:
* I did lsof /Volumes/HITACHI/MacHD_20120201.dmg and found the PID of the diskimage binary, ps waux showed it was doing nothing (CPU% was 0.0). This indicates a stuck process to me.
* The hdutil command stopped producing '.'
* I could not cancel the hduitl command
* I could not rm the MacHD_20120201.dmg file
* I could not ls the /Volumes/HITACHI directory
* unlink also hung
A little further into this, the Mac became unresponsive. I observed that the disk was now mounted again (grrr!). As a work around I switched the USB drive off and on, and Mac came good - all my terminals started to respond, the GUI responded for the user.My workaround has been to use CCC to make a clone of the disk - but I don't like this because I think .dmg files are much more convenient (for a start, now that I've used CCC I can't use the USB drive for anything else).
* Is my methodology wrong? Do I really need to umount the /dev/disk1
* Can you disable finder from automounting an internal hard drive (I am particularly interested in this)Â

yesterday my mac wouldn't boot-up(froze at the spinny circle thingy below the apple). I did get it fixed though... with disk utility off the leopard installation dvd. Now i am wondering if it is possible to create a bootable dvd...
btw, i have tryed clone x 3, but it is way to expensive and there is no "finder" like app...
I just purchased two different types of keyboards and I am going through an elimination process to see which one i like better. One, however, isn't designed for the mac. I was wondering if there is a way to create a shortcut on the keyboard that is not on the default settings? Example: If I press F7, it Opens iMail or if I press F9, it opens iTunes, etc.

I need to create a split archive of a file over 1GB for posting on my blog. I'd like it to be in RAR format so that both Mac and PC users can access it. I heard I could do it with Stuffit Deluxe so I bought it and now I'm seeing no such option. Neither to create split archives or to create RAR archives, let alone both.
Does anyone know how to do this with Stuffit Deluxe? If not, can you suggest another software?
I'm so confused by iTunes 9. I can't figure out how to a) identify songs which are eligible for ringtones (remember the little bell column that used to designate ringtone availability) and b) how to create the ringtone once I choose a song.

Or if i edit a picture by selecting photoshop through iPhoto will it change the image thats in the original location or will iPhoto create a new picture and store it somewhere else?

So I've generally avoided using iPhoto for my pictures, mostly due to the familiarity of the old school method, which is just putting different folders and the like in the "Pictures" section of finder. So, if you click on "Pictures," you'll see various categories: family, friends, celebrities, sports, wallpapers, etc. Then when you click on, say, family, you'll have other folders of the various family members of families. Then you click and you see the pictures, etc.
Is there a way to organize this in iPhoto in the same fashion? Where I can have various main categories (i.e., family pictures), but various subcategories (i.e., the Smith Family, the Doe family, etc.) within the folders? Or am I fine with how I have it now?
Currently have a playlist for all songs on my local HD. Is there a way for the playlist to automatically update and add/remove songs as I add/remove them from my "Music" folder? I'd rather have this automated than manually adding songs each time I download them.

I was wondering if there's a way to create a new document composed of only the stuff I highlighted. That way I would have a great study guide and I wouldn't have to re-type all the content. So to summarize:
Copy highlighted sections ONLY and paste selections into a new document
Can it be done or do you need a plug-in or seperate program?

I have created both pages, selected them individually in the Page Thumbnails bar and selected Format > Advanced > Capture Pages and they both appear in the Sections tab.
My problem however, is when I select the second of the sections (the one I wish to duplicate multiple times within a new document), it inserts two new pages - one reflecting the appropriate formatting I have created, and the other a seemingly blank page that carries on both the Header and Footer characteristics of the document.
When this happens, the newly added section appears in the Page Thumbnails bar as a group - that is to say that I am unable to delete the "blank" page by itself, I can only delete both pages.
Is there any Greeting Card software for the Mac similar to American Greetings Creatacard?

View 5 Replies View RelatedGot Numbers 08 installed, never really used it as didn't have a need. Created a spreadsheet the last day with some survey results for a project and saved it.
My spreadsheet looks like:
(A1-Grey) - Sex - Age - Multiple choice question
(Blank-Grey) - Male - 30 - Answer1
(Blank-Grey) - Female - 25 -Answer2
With a blank column on the left that's grey and the top heading thing being grey. Bit lost though with turning say the "Multiple choice question" column into a pie-chart (or any sort of chart tbh). I choose the header and all the 30 or so replies in that column and select chart -> pie-chart. It presents me with a pie-chart "Chart1" with just blue - 100% and the legend stating : blue - Untitled 1. How would I go about making the chart with the data I need? (I know I'm selecting it wrong or have it laid out wrong or something) or editing a chart manually.
If I buy a music in iTunes and want to create a ringtone from it in iTunes... Do I have to buy the ringtone? How can I create/save it?

I'd like to read this into Numbers but by default it doesn't know what to do with those "|"'s of course. I've heard (though am unable to verify) that Excel has this ability to recognize separator symbols and put it in separate columns. Is there a way to do this with Numbers or any other Apple program?
