I have dropbox, and want my "permanent folders" folder (which I have on my desktop) to be permanently mirrored to my dropbox folder. I know how to make a folder alias, but that's not quite the same thing. How can I do this?
View 2 RepliesI just noticed that instead of the normal iTunes folder structure in my home dir of Music/iTunes/iTunes Music now the iTunes Music folder as well as the Mobile Applications folder have been copied into a new folder called iTunes Media. Is this something to do with iTunes 9 or Snow Leopard. Also what folders are safe for me to delete? Because everything has been duplicated I am wasting about 30gb of my hard drive and I'd like the space back.

When I got my iMac, I wanted to port everything my Dell, to my iMac. This was great and all, and mostly worked, though I ended up duplicating about 400 songs, about 4 times each. Is there some type of feature or something I can do with automator that would get rid of my duplicate songs?

I have lower quality files already tagged, but alas, I've scoured the internet and haven't come up with any resources to automate this. I can use Lostify to "lock" the fields but still have to manually enter the title, episode ID and such, and copy and paste the description.
In my dreams, I envision an application with two drop-zones that would duplicate the metadata from one file to another. I do this sort of thing often enough to really need it. I've looked at the command-line tools for Atomic Parsley and MP4Tags (which is awesome and if built from source can now successfully edit the CNID and HD tags resulting in the dual-format HD-SD files you see on iTunes) but have no "copy" function.
I am going to manually remove each duplicate, but my ? is when you click on show duplicates...is that every copy of that song in itunes or is there still another copy that isn't showing when you select this?

In Vista and 7, it asks if you want to replace all similarly named items with a single of the items or if you want to put all of the similarly named items in the new location and append an annotation at the end of the file name. (I think Windows appends "Copy #" to duplicates) So, I'm left with, "File, File 2, File 3, file 4" in a single folder. I need an Automator action to sort this out and simply move or delete the duplicates.
The simplest action I can think is: Ask for files>get files>select files with similar filenames, neglecting the last characters if they are numerals>reference the size (with accuracy of 1 byte) of selected files>label files of the same size red>select red files>move red files to a selected folder. How can I get these sort of tools? I need a measuring action and another action that will compare file names...
I was just wondering how do you delete songs that have more then one of each, I thought it'd might be consolidate library but then it asked me something, and I was not sure... I know it sounds like I don't know how to use iTunes but I do everyday, just don't know this

What my questions is if I get an email from someone and then I forward it to someone now I have a duplicate one in my inbox and another in my sent. If I delete the one in my sent then when I open it the attachment will not show. Is there a way for it to just store the file once and then create an alias pointing to the main file.
Another example: If I attach a photo from iPhoto to an email there again is another duplicate. I would much rather Mail send the photo and create an alias to the original photo in iPhoto thus creating no duplicates.
I hope that was not confusing.

I know this is not all cases of duplicate files but mainly my Mail has way to many duplicates.
1 email attachments from web mail (eg Yahoo).I can't see how to do this -- is it possible? my current iPhoto set-up has managed to duplicate all my files. I see Events twice. shared access for all users on this computer there must be a way of doing this but I cannot find it. I see the ability to share across different computers - like mounting a remote file system - but that doesn't seem to give what I want and in any case restricts ownership priviledges to only the 1 owner. accessibility of backups. I believe iPhoto backs up the whole file that contains many photos - this is a "black box" that only iPhoto can access. I have a concern about this, it just feels less accessible than a series of JPGs. tell me I'm being irrational? I like this Application but the above points are just holding me back from committing to it.

Ever since 10.6.2 I have noticed that my gmail account has been acting funny. I have had duplicate inbox/trash/sent/etc. folders below my "real" inbox on the top. This has really bugged me but never enough to try to fix it until tonight. I followed Gmail's instructions so I wouldn't mess anything up. I didn't want to feel to cocky going in to it. Well, this has been a disaster. I can't even see my messages anymore! I have now gone so far as to try entourage and thunderbird. All of them seem to have the same problem: My password is incorrect? Why is this. I have been messing with this for over an hour now and still have not gotten it sorted out. I have tried changing the password, changing it back, going to keychain access and deleting the passwords stored there so the new ones would be "fresh," but nothing I mean nothing seems to work. Something tells me it is on Gmail's end? As it sits now, iMap is enabled as well as POP. That is how it was when it was working earlier.

I tried trashing the prefs and that helped for a few days, but it keeps coming back. I also setup and tested my mail account on another machine and that machine never gets doubles.

Before I formatted the hard drive with leopard on it, there was duplicate everything when I right clicked and used open with, but after I formatted the old drive, most of them disappeared... except for one. View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter Latest update (security update) that came out not so long ago, my safari experience has gone from good to bad. I have crash on me at least twice a day. Anyone else had this? I noticed that it usually happens when I try to compose email on Gmail, when I press compose and enter my friends email press enter to select contact, after that the wheel starts spinning and then you get "Safari quit unexpectedly"
Does anyone else have this issue? Also my startup times started to get slower.
