OS X :: Watch DVDs On MacBook Air Without DVDs?
Nov 16, 2009Been searching online for an easy way to copy DVDs to the hard drive so they can be watched without the external DVD player needed for the MacBook Air.I've converted the DVD to a .DMG file using the disk utility tool and then mounted it...but cant figure out how to make it actually execute inside of QuickTime...

Aug 5, 2008I can't burn anything...I insert the DVD and choose "write from video_TS folder " or something(i can't remember it correctly).
So,when all of this happens and the window minimize i get an error:
The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03
What am i doing wrong?The DVD says: DVD +R for DATA 4,7GB.This is not the first time i write a DVD but when i bought those blank DVDs from that guy i can't write anything.

Nov 11, 2005I am pretty new here, only posted a few times here and there. I am also a brand spanken new Apple user with the new iMac 2.1GHz machines. When I got my iMac, I wanted to port everything my Dell, to my iMac. This was great and all, and mostly worked, though I ended up duplicating about 400 songs, about 4 times each. Is there some type of feature or something I can do with automator that would get rid of my duplicate songs?

Feb 11, 2009So I re-ripped some episodes that I now need to re-tag. I have lower quality files already tagged, but alas, I've scoured the internet and haven't come up with any resources to automate this. I can use Lostify to "lock" the fields but still have to manually enter the title, episode ID and such, and copy and paste the description.
In my dreams, I envision an application with two drop-zones that would duplicate the metadata from one file to another. I do this sort of thing often enough to really need it. I've looked at the command-line tools for Atomic Parsley and MP4Tags (which is awesome and if built from source can now successfully edit the CNID and HD tags resulting in the dual-format HD-SD files you see on iTunes) but have no "copy" function.

Jan 3, 2011Unlike Windows, this damn-ded MacOS X won't ask what to do when moving several items with the same name to a single location. In Vista and 7, it asks if you want to replace all similarly named items with a single of the items or if you want to put all of the similarly named items in the new location and append an annotation at the end of the file name. (I think Windows appends "Copy #" to duplicates) So, I'm left with, "File, File 2, File 3, file 4" in a single folder. I need an Automator action to sort this out and simply move or delete the duplicates.
The simplest action I can think is: Ask for files>get files>select files with similar filenames, neglecting the last characters if they are numerals>reference the size (with accuracy of 1 byte) of selected files>label files of the same size red>select red files>move red files to a selected folder. How can I get these sort of tools? I need a measuring action and another action that will compare file names...

Jan 7, 2009I have a program that can find duplicate files. What my questions is if I get an email from someone and then I forward it to someone now I have a duplicate one in my inbox and another in my sent. If I delete the one in my sent then when I open it the attachment will not show. Is there a way for it to just store the file once and then create an alias pointing to the main file.
Another example: If I attach a photo from iPhoto to an email there again is another duplicate. I would much rather Mail send the photo and create an alias to the original photo in iPhoto thus creating no duplicates.
I hope that was not confusing.
I want a program that will find duplicates and then keep 1 and create alias's for the one's deleted.
I know this is not all cases of duplicate files but mainly my Mail has way to many duplicates.

I see Events twice. shared access for all users on this computer there must be a way of doing this but I cannot find it. I see the ability to share across different computers - like mounting a remote file system - but that doesn't seem to give what I want and in any case restricts ownership priviledges to only the 1 owner. accessibility of backups. I believe iPhoto backs up the whole file that contains many photos - this is a "black box" that only iPhoto can access. I have a concern about this, it just feels less accessible than a series of JPGs. tell me I'm being irrational? I like this Application but the above points are just holding me back from committing to it.

Feb 10, 2009I downloaded a TV series as a package.
It is .AVI, and I had to use Perian to view it in QuitckTime.. no biggie.
However when I went to burn it to a CD I gave BURN a shot. It had to convert the files in order to be able to create a DVD player compatible DVD.
This process was taking forever...... Is this normal with any program?
What about using iDVD or other DVD making software?? Would it be any quicker at converting?
Open to suggestions....

May 14, 2009Okay...so I'm literally going crazy. My father ripped a bunch of dvds of mine using his pc (I haven't converted him...yet!) with DVDfab Platinum. I'm working on backing up my movies on hard drive and I have tried to rip them to my Macbook with MTR as well as burning them with Popcorn.
I have never had any difficulty with either program except when it comes to trying to re-rip these dvds copied on pc first.It doesn't seem logical that this can be a pc to mac problem...but who knows? MTR shuts down immediately when trying to rip the movie. Popcorn won't burn the TS file from the DVD or an image file of the DVD. I'm lost. Does anyone have any suggestions...?

Nov 7, 2009I just bought a new Kenwood DNX-9140 for my car that plays DivX files. I also bought a 500GB external hard drive. My Kenwood unit can play files from external hard drives. I want to rip my DVDs to my external hard drive and play them on my Kenwood unit. I want to be able to keep the menu functions on the ripped DVD file.
Keep the ripped file to ONE DivX file. It would be best if I could keep the final file under 3GB. Basically, opening the file and acting like it's playing a normal DVD. I know it's a lot to ask but if this can be done in as little steps as possible it would be awesome. I spent many hours searching and experimenting for the answer.

Dec 13, 2009Ever since 10.6.2 I have noticed that my gmail account has been acting funny. I have had duplicate inbox/trash/sent/etc. folders below my "real" inbox on the top. This has really bugged me but never enough to try to fix it until tonight. I followed Gmail's instructions so I wouldn't mess anything up. I didn't want to feel to cocky going in to it. Well, this has been a disaster. I can't even see my messages anymore! I have now gone so far as to try entourage and thunderbird. All of them seem to have the same problem: My password is incorrect? Why is this. I have been messing with this for over an hour now and still have not gotten it sorted out. I have tried changing the password, changing it back, going to keychain access and deleting the passwords stored there so the new ones would be "fresh," but nothing I mean nothing seems to work. Something tells me it is on Gmail's end? As it sits now, iMap is enabled as well as POP. That is how it was when it was working earlier.

I tried trashing the prefs and that helped for a few days, but it keeps coming back. I also setup and tested my mail account on another machine and that machine never gets doubles.
