OS X :: Dock Items And Login Items Reappearing Like Duplicate?
Jul 4, 2010Any time I try to remove an icon from the dock or an item from the login items and then logout/restart they come right back. It's like OS X is remembering my last login and then just duplicating it. I can't get it to keep it the settings I give it. Google and a quick search of the forums gave me nothing.

Dec 1, 2014I've been having lots of trouble getting itune to work smoothly, having lots of error messages. It frequently says things like" iTunes can’t verify the identity of the server “init.itunes.apple.com”." and other variants with different web addresses. Mostly when I'm trying to use the itunes store. And I've bought a CD recently and when I try to load it at search for the track names it makes the error noise, and a window flashes up saying (ironically ) "no error". This same album is on the itunes store to purchase.

May 8, 2012I have 3 servers in my office. I have plan to configure these three together in my office. My plan is one server just only for login purpose and other two to keep the home folders and shared folders.the function is when one network user log in to one client machine, it just login(by using first server)and disconnect from first server and connect to the either two (means direct to the homefolder i created either of two server). Means first server as login server and other two are file servers.

ITunes :: Find And Remove Duplicate Items In Library
May 18, 2012I use Google's Google Play and I made the mistake of Downloading my Library from the Google play Music Manager in my (early 2011) MacBook Pro's System Preferences after I already had my music library in iTunes so now I have a duplicate of every single song and not sure how to delete them. I tried using the the advice offered on here where I sort all music based on DATE but every song has the same date and about the same time so that won't work for me. Other then downloading a paid program I'm not sure what my options here are. That being said, let me know if anyone know what options other then paying for a program to do this for me or worse... having me click on every single duplicate song individually until I finish?

Mar 7, 2009My own account login items list in my systems preferences window is limited to one item- an istat menus helper app. But my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder contains two items that I don't recognize and don't think have much to do with starting up the computer. One is a Qmaster folder and another is named RDUSB00A3Startup. Each folder contains a few items, including a unix executable file and a plist file. My mac hd/system/library/StartupItems folder is empty. Can anyone please advise on whether the items in my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder are necessary and if deleting them could affect my computer? I don't use Qmaster and have no idea what the RDUSB00A3Startup folder is for.

For some reason when I make a new folder now, I can't change the name. It just stays at Untitled Folder. I right clicked and did "Ownership and permissions" and made sure that the i was able to "read AND write". I am and so are all my groups and other. I didn't click "apply to enclosed items" cus i didn't know what it meant and it said "you can't undo this action"..
I can't even change the names to any folders i currently have. Or files I have as well. Delete doesn't even work...it just stays at whatever name it currently has.

Apr 23, 2012I am using Image Capture 4.0 to download photos. When I plug in my storage device (camera, SD card, USB stick, etc.) Image Capture opens and along with the option to select the download folder, all the names of the folders (grayed out) I have used since I first started using the computer appear. These are folders I no longer use, but to get to the actual area or folder that I want to download to, I have to scroll past a couple hunderd previous, grayed out folder names. Once I get to the actual desired folder, I can download to it. But, those annoying, old folder names still appear on the hard drive.

Nov 7, 2010I did a bunch of googling, and couldn't find an answer to this or how to do this except with windows-based mp3tag apps.
I have a collection of .WAV files with no tags or filenames at all, but they are all nested in folders that are named with the album the files are from. All the actual .WAV file names are just Track01, Track02, etc. Obviously if I imported these as-is it would be a disorganized disaster.
I am trying to import them into my iTunes library as ALAC lossless-compressed files.
All I would like to do is have the imported files tagged with the folder as the album name.
I can't seem to find any tag editor that will do this on a Mac. I don't want to sit here for hours in iTunes manually entering the album tag for each imported song, that would take ages. Are there any options, or do I brew a pot of coffee...?

Jul 19, 2009I have an external hard drive with several music folders on it. Volume is formatting FAT32 so I can move/edit between osx and windows. When on the OSX side, several folders are renamed into shorter versions. If I try to name it the original folder name it SHOULD have, OSX says I can't because it already exists.
I've attached a screen shot of one of the folders. This folder is supposed to say "red hot chili peppers - mother's milk 1989" :-/ Is this just a downside to using a fat32 volume in OSX? All the folders look fine in windowz.

Sep 9, 2010Has anyone ever had startup programs disappear from the login items preference pane for no apparent reason after reboot? I've had this happen twice over the past year, once in Leopard and once in Snow Leopard. You add some startup apps to the login items in pref pane and reboot and some items are gone and no longer listed in there.

Apr 23, 2009I just noticed (I never really looked before) a bunch of login items listed that mostly I don't know their purpose. The logitech control center for my bluetooth mouse is there. That makes sense as to connect my mouse at startup. But I have something called 'Airport Base Station Agent' and iTunesHelper' and a couple of other do-dads for a couple of other small apps (Rogue Amoeba Schedule Help, for ex.) that I have no idea why they should be 'starting' when I log in, nor are they something I even notice when I login in. Are they some kind of background process goings on I don't know of? If I toss this stuff, would it hurt anything? For example, is that Airport agent thing an important background utility that's needed for my computer to connect to its wireless on startup or what?

Jun 8, 2012Intermittent "forgetting" of most LogIn items.As I recall, this problem began in the later iterations of Snow Leopard and I posted somewhere in here about it, but I can't find that earlier discussion now.The problem is this: occasionally most login items will not load. I check System Preferences > Accounts > Login items and find that most of the items that were there are no longer listed. When it starts happening, it happens more often than occasionally. After a period of time, the problem goes away for a somewhat longer period of time.I Option-Go in the Finder to Library > Preferences and (1) delete the PLIST files for apple.com.loginitems and for apple.com.systempreferences then (2) open System Preferences > Accounts > Login items and re-populate the list then (3) restart.I have tried a shortcut of saving copies of the newly-written PLISTs and replacing the removed PLISTs with them before re-starting, but "something" else in the system has apparently stored the information and the same absences show up, so I have to go through the one-by-one repopulating of the list.
Does anyone have a solution beyond the steps I have listed here? Sometimes I want to get to work but have to go through that increasingly infuriating process of re-setting login items.I'm thinking there must be some other file that makes the "complete" PLISTs that I have saved and re-copied back into the Preferences folder match the incorrect list that was created on the incorrect startup. It is comparable to saving a revised word processor file but, when re-opened, it is the pre-revised version.

Mar 18, 2009I'm looking for a way to rename a batch of 30,000 photos. I have renamer but I don't think it does what I need it to do. I want to append the file name with the folder path. The photos are organized in folders which give info I want to make part of the filename itself (country, city etc.)
I am sure there is a way but...don't know how. Freeware or native apple way preferred over having to buy a new program.

OS X :: Disable Startup Items For A One-time Login?
Jan 13, 2009I'm sure many of you know how using bootcamp can cause slow startups when switching OS's because it has no cache to use. For example I'll be in Windows and then need to swap back over to Leopard to get something done, but it takes forever. The worst part is the list of login items... I've tried using scripts to separate them by 10 seconds or so, but nothing really made it faster. I was wondering if it was possible to login but cancel or disable the startup items for that login that one time... Sometimes I just need to login to grab something off the internet or something quick, but it takes me awhile because I have to wait for everything to load.
Do I make any sense? :P
And no, safe startup mode does not count. I don't want to disable the entire system... just the login items.
Software :: Login Items - Crash When Removing
Dec 30, 2009I've got some login items that who-knows-where-I-got'em, but I do and I can't get rid of them.
Their item and kind are \\\ and unknown. When I mouse over them to see their resident folder, I get a yellow sticky of \\ ad nauseum.
And when I try to remove them, El-KaBong. A soft restart back to the login window.
Tried just an A&I of the system, hoping it would fix the problem, but no such luck.
Other than that, it runs just fine. Is this an issue?
