Applications :: Pages Break Paragraph When Text Inserted
May 31, 2010As a writer, I'm going to be using Pages on my brand new MacBook Pro 13" (I just switched from Windows) quite a lot, so it really ticks me off that whenever I insert text in a line in a paragraph, the line below it gets separated from the rest of the text instead of simply moving the text on the line I'm editing smoothly into the following lines.

Jan 13, 2011I've been using Safari, but suddenly it started displaying pages like this: [URL] I don't know why it's doing this or what caused it. And really, it's not the same as disabling styles because some things are still controlled by the styles while the whole structure seems off. I tried reinstalling, which did nothing. Not every page renders incorrectly (google.com is fine), but most do (youtube, hulu, apple.com, etc).

Apr 6, 2010In pages, its possible to select all uses of a particular style, but once selected, you can only do very limited things with it. You cannot for instance delete or even copy it. Is there a way to copy the content (not style) of the selected text formatted to a particular style? If not, is there anyway that apple script could be used to do a similar thing?

May 18, 2010I have been using Matlab and Excel to plot graphs for academic papers. While both are good applications for plotting simple graphs with 3 or less curves in each graph, I run out of line styles and color when I try to plot many curves on the same graph. The situation is worsen when it is required that all the curves be in black and white. Do you know of good applications (freeware and commercial) that allow can provide nice looking graphs with lots of choices of line styles?

Mar 2, 2010My Word seems to be confused about what each type of spacing is. Today I had a double spaced paper written and started messing around with those view buttons on the bottom left corner. When I got it back to print layout view my spacing was much larger than before, but still said double spaced.
I realize that it is now correct and was too small before. I don't know why it changed, but when I open other documents it still has them as the small, incorrect double spacing and I can't figure out how to make them right. I've got the paragraph thing set to 0 and don't add space--that's none of the problem.
OS X :: Keeping Applications Separate From Other Users?
Sep 13, 2009I've just created another user account on my mbp, and the problem I'm having is that there are certain applications of mine that the 2nd user doesn't want or need, however when I go onto that account and remove the application it also deletes it from my account?
Is this normal, and is there any way around this? So that I can pick and choose which applications exist on the 2nd account?
Software :: Can't Get Paragraph To Go Single Line
Nov 21, 2009I am editing a resume and the document is set to Single Line Spacing. There are some sentences that are double spaced in the resume that I want to make single spaced I can't get them to be single spaces. Hitting the Delete bar does not help. It just pushes the sentence more to the left and then to the line above, not directly underneath it. And when I try to place the cursor with the mouse the cursor will not go directly underneath the line above but actually goes to the beginning of the line above. How can I get those double spaced lines to be single spaced

Sep 17, 2008When copying a table from say a webpage or even a RTF file, Pages does not retain its table formatting. Instead it separates the rows and columns and puts them on separate lines.
See it for yourself, try copying one of the tables on this page into Pages [URL]
The only way I can get the table into Pages is to paste into NeoOffice (which retains the correct formating), save the file with the .doc extension then open in Pages.

May 10, 2010I am getting a new MBP, however, I have software on my older Mac that I would like on my new MBP. Is there anyway to be able to use/transfer the programs if one has registered them online? Or does a new computer require a new installation disc and serial? Anyway I can install w/o original discs -My installation discs are at my parents home on the east coast, I recently moved to the west coast and don't have them with me. I can have them send them to me, but if my older computer is registered, can I register a new one?

Mar 12, 2012I am trying to turn off whatever function puts boxes around paragraphs of text in mail. When I try to edit/manipulate text in emails that have been forwarded to me, it is difficult to do because every paragraph is set in an individual box. I can see how this might be useful for deleting whole paragraphs or moving them. But is there a way to turn off the function?

Oct 3, 2009ive been tryign to get my mac to continue playing music while the lid is closed and am not having much luck. I have pretty much discovered that it is impossible to do from the OS its self. I have also downloaded insomniax but everytime i enable it my system crashes and i gotta restart. So is anyone aware of a solid program i can use that will do waht im trying to?

Sep 10, 2010I'm looking for mac compatible record keeping software. Nothing fancy, I just want a visually pleasing application where I can import important files like birth certificate, SSN, tax documents and etc., and be able to organize/color code etc. Of course, it needs to be able to encrypt databases. I'm basically looking for an alternative to what my bank Wells Fargo provides online for secure doc backups. (I already have a backup solution for my entire computer)
I found a program called Records Master, but it's a little too basic and doesn't prove to be much more helpful over creating an encrypted mountable drive (which is pretty much what I do now). I'm simply looking to streamline some of my paperwork like taxes and stuff, and it's a pain looking through mounds of unorganized half chewed paper that's all over the place taking up too much space.

Apr 11, 2009I have a customer who owns a Mac and when she attempted to download an unzipped embroidery file (jef extension) she was greeted with the message this was not possible, that it had to have a .dmf extension and she was given the option to use both (nameoffile.jef.dmf)This did not work at all.
How do you download an embroidery file while keeping the extension intact?She transfers her file to a jump drive and then to her machine. We tried downloading directly to the jump drive - same message.She is going to try to use her Windows parallel and see if that will work.

Mar 24, 2010I need to open a few Pages files but I don't have Pages installed on this computer. I understand you can convert Pages files to .doc or .pdf within the application, but unfortunately I won't have access to the computer with the program installed for a while.
Is there some sort of (free) converter that can convert .pages files to .doc or .pdf or even .rtf?
Or even better, a document creator/viewer than can open .pages files?

May 12, 2010I'm trying to create pages that have all black backgrounds. I've been doing this by using the Shapes tool, choosing a rectangle, filling in the entire white space for the page, which is 8x11, and then filling in with black.
The problem is that when I do this, Pages seems to think that I want this page and the following page to be connected, in some way. When I look at the two pages in the thumnail view, the yellow outline is around both pages, rather than each individually.
Anybody know how to keep this from happening. Or the right way to create full black backgrounds for pages in Pages?
Software :: Global Styles In NeoOffice?
Aug 27, 2010I'm editing a book in which the author switched programs and from PC to Mac in mid-stream, so the styling of the footnotes is not consistent. The text of the book is now in NeoOffice, and I've been asked to bring all the footnotes in accord with each other. I wondered whether there is a command that will change them so they all are in the same typeface and size. (I know that by setting up a Footnote style, all new footnotes will be correct, but I'm talking about ones that already exist). The author hasn't yet finished with the book, or I'd just get her to give me a chapter or two at a time and change them manually. Time is too short for us to wait till the end, when she has done all her revisions. I guess you get the picture. If there is no way to do this, please just tell me. If you know of one, though, I'd be grateful. Hoping that this is clear. It's gotten rather late! By the way, I'm working on a MacBook (not Pro) 13" with OS 10.5 and NeoOffice 3.1.1.

Don't say Library/Application Support/Motion/Library/Text Styles because it isn't true. I've checked over and over. Everyone that answered this question was a year ago.
Oh yeah. Motion is FUBAR when saving styles. I will save the first one. Create another style and try to save that and it saves my previous style over and over and over. I just blew off hours saving styles for a project and only the first one work, every other style is a duplicate of the first one I set. You should have an exact preview or something like that before it is saved. This entire process should be like Photoshop. I should be able to save a style palette for a customer in a file and reuse that rather than cluttering my styles folder with legacy information. You have this feature on the color palette, why not Motion and all other apps?
And Apple, it would be so cool if the finder had a mode that allowed searching under the hood, as it were. When files are saved in Libraries and you can't search there it is a huge time waster. Jobs used to brag about plug-and-play. This is more like hunt-and-peck. Don't give me some crap about the command line interface, I want an easy way to find files.
Software :: Default Worksheets Styles In Excel 2011
Oct 30, 2010MS has added many styles to default worksheet in 2011. Previous versions I could create my own default workbook and put it in the Startup folder for Excel. That does not work in 2011. Anyone able to tell me how to use my former default sheet in 2011 (don't want to Template feature)? I am talking about the sheet created when you start Excel.
