View 12 RepliesI'm brand new to mac, just got a 15" mbp. On my PC I was constantly used to clearing cookies, temp files, history, etc under properties on IE, because for security reasons, and to keep viruses at bay. What does the "Empty Cache" feature do on Safari 4? Is that the same as clearing cookies?

How can I empty cache in Lion? I have iMac desktop. I upgraded to Lion, Version 10.7.4.
In Snow Leopard, I emptied cache in three places: When I drag these three to trash, Lion will not let me empty trash.

Was looking in the folder structure to know the location of the cache for Safari. All I could find was a folder named com.Apple.Safari at ~/Library/Caches. But this folder was empty and I could not find the corresponding cache.db file in it!

I recently installed OS X Mavericks from scratch. I'm on the latest version (10.9.3) and running a dual monitor setup. I've noticed that one of the monitors seems to have a space in the menu bar as seen below (the empty space is to the right of 1password (the key icon)) :
The other monitor however doesn't have that space:
What's more interesting though is that clicking on that empty space makes it dispear on that monitor, but the empty space suddenly appears on the other monitor.Â

I've created subfolder bookmarks in Safari and see how you can place bookmarks on the Bookmarks Bar. But what is the "Bookmarks Menu" folder in Safari? It's just below the Bookmarks Bar when you see all your bookmarks? What do you use this Menu for?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI do have Glims installed and I checked "Replace bookmark titled "-" with menu separator." However, I can't get it to work.
What exactly do I need to do? I tried adding a folder to bookmarks menu by clicking "+" and then renaming the folder to "-", but it didn't work. I also tried renaming a bookmark to "-" or - if you will, but nothing worked.
I need to populate the bays of my new MacPro 2.66 with 5GB RAM. The stock HD turns out to be a Seagate 250GB HD ST3250820A. I've found them online and wonder if I just should RAID three or four of them as opposed to one Seagate 500GBs or 750 with 32GB cache? These would all be a Raid run by Apple software not a RAID card.

I have two macbook pros linked via firewire. I set one as a target by holding "T" at startup. It should be a drag and drop from one iTunes folder to another, right?
The kicker is, I've done this many times before and now it won't work..
how to add a "close tab" command to the control click contextual menu in Safari? (or an extension that would provide this feature) I know that if you control click on the actual tab you get get a different contextual menu that includes the close tab command, but the contextual menu available by clicking on the body of the page does not contain that command. I'm using the track pad on a Macbook Pro and want to be able to close the tab by using the using the trackpad alone without having to shift to the keyboard or move the cursor up to the top of the window to close the tab.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen going to a linked page in Safari I usually want to open it in a new tab or a new window and occasionally to do other things with it. So I'm used to right-clicking on links to bring up a contextual menu offering me:
Open Link in New Window
Open Link in New Tab
Download Linked File
Download Linked File As...
Add Link to Bookmarks...
Copy Link: I noticed the loss of this menu when my wife wanted me to look at web pages she had found related to a possible holiday. Using Safari in her account on our iMac, I found no menu appeared when I right-clicked on a link. I checked she had the "secondary button" set up OK in the mouse preferences and I also found right-clicking worked OK elsewhere. I then tried other ways of making the menu appear on a link (CTRL-clicking or holding down the left, primary button); neither worked!................
This is weird, but apparently it does it in 4 and 5. I just never had cause to notice. I'm working in Flash on a PC, brought an swf to mac to try it in different browsers. It'll open ok in Firefox. But in the Safari open file menu it's grayed out - in spite of the fact that it loads these from websites all the time without issue. So I went into Get Info for the file and found that neither Safari or Firefox were listed under 'Recommended Apps'. It did list Quicktime, which insisted it was not a movie (it even has Flip 4 Mac and Perian). I finally got it to load by clicking 'Show ALL applications' and clicking open with Safari.
But why on Earth did I have to go thru all that? Does anyone know why mac doesn't recognize a simple swf file as openable on it's own hard drive?
When I click on the bookmark icon in Safari it does not show all the bookmark folders I have in my bookmarks drop down menu.
This is what is in my drop down menu:
And this is what is I see when I click the bookmarks icon on the top left bar.
I've tried dragging and dropping the folders but that does nothing, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Safari (it just came back with all my bookmarks in exactly the same place), then I tried restoring Safari to factory settings but that did nothing either.
Safari 5.0.5. MacOS 10.6.8..I am developping complex HTML+JavaScript. I notice that after a while (~30 mn) Safari does not clear its cache and re-uses old JS scripts. I have caches disabled in the development menu. Clearing cache or reinitialize Safari from the Safari menu is of no help.Only way is to delete the cache.db file in Libray/cache/com.apple.safari, exit Safari, empty trash, then relaunch !

Which one of these 500gb drives is better? I've been browsing Newegg for two hours now reading reviews. The Seagate drives seem to come with bad firmware that causes performance and cache recognition issues. The Samsung drives have a high failure rate. Whats the real deal? Has anyone here had any bad experiences with either drives?
