Safari (Lion-OS 10.7.3) can't connect to certain sites. Firefox can. Actions taken:(1) cleared cache & restarted. No help (2) booted in safe mode. same error. What do I do now?
View 7 RepliesMy cache was accidentally cleared last night (I was working on cleaning my computer out, d/led Cocktail and I guess it did it automatically) and all my settings were reset. Everything has been put back to normal, except for my Photobooth-- it won't show any of the old photos taken in the app itself! It just says "No Photos", even though all the photos still remain in the user/Pictures/Photo Booth folder. When I take a new photo, it shows up in the folder right next to the old one so I don't know what the probem is.
Is there any way I can make the photos show back up in the application? None of the folders are locked. Stupid Cocktail.

Firefox is open, I was wondering what differences anyone has seen between it, and Safari. I have been using Safari with but a few problems for some time. Is there an opinion as to which is better, it at all? I am using it with OS 10.3.6 on two G4's, a Titanium laptop, and a 1.25 dual processor, both with plenty of RAM. There is, however, one specific question. Some sites I can access fully with the laptop, but not with the desktop, even though they are virtually the same hardware & software.

But somehow, our company website won't load in Safari or Firefox. There is internet connection, all other websites on that laptop I've tried works. We have 15 other PCs / OSX and our website works on all of them, except for the powerbook.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having this problem for a while. It happens every now and then, sometimes more often too. Sometimes at random times, when I try to access https websites in Safari such as Internet banking, signing in into eBay etc, it has an error.
It says "Safari can't open the page because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server signin.ebay.com.au". To resolve this problem I always have to turn off my Airport and then turn it back on. See screenshot - [URL]
I've also tried opening it in Firefox and it also doesn't work. In Firefox, the error is "Data Transfer Interrupted: The connection to signin.ebay.com.au has terminated unexpectedly. Some data may have been transferred." See screenshot - [URL]

In both Safari and Firefox, I cannot get certain website In safari I get this error message: Safari can’t open the page “http://www.google.com/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again. I have tried several different DNS providers (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) with the same results. I looked at my host file and it is unaltered. I'm running updates now, but don't think that is the issue 9I'll know soon). All the other mac and PC computers on this network are working just fine and get to the sites with no errors.

I've run into a problem. My macbook pro running 10.6.4 can no longer connect to the internet with any app but ichat. It is bizarre. I have restarted my computer, released my IP addresses, turned ip6 on and off... nothing works.

For some reason,using both Safari and Firefox, it can't connect to most websites and if it does the pages don't fully load( pictures and videos won't load) but my network works fine with other device like my phone and I'm still able to download updates. Ive tried restarting in safe mode, clearing caches, Safari without extensions.

what i want to know if it's possible to set firefox to be the primary browser if i click on links from the sites that would take down safari, and go to safari for the rest of the websites.

This is my biggest software design pet peeves. I hate when applications make too many choices for the user. Don't get me wrong, I don't like when a program asks the same question over and over again either. So I'm using firefox and I had about four or five windows open. And it froze up for over five minutes so I force killed it. When I opened it again it automatically tried to open all those websites I had open before - all at the same time. This isn't even a bug, it's the designers bad choice. I don't even need them open. I was only still using one. And I don't know which one caused the freeze (probably a flash heavy website like abercrombie) but I certainly don't want to open that one again. I'm trying to get Firefox to not do this anymore.

Up until yesterday safari/firefox were working perfectly. This morning I find that I can't access engadget, ebay, facebook or apple. I'm sure they're other sites, but these are the ones I checked. I can get ESPN in a text only version, this seems to be one of the only sites that I can actually access. I deleted Safari and tried to go to Apple to download it, only to find that it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Even though I have Firefox listed as my default browser in both Firefox and in Safari, any links in Apple mail default to Safari rather than to Firefox and any URL's I save in Firefox default to the Safari icon. While I understand that Safari is an Apple product that is tied to their OS's, I want to continue to use Firefox as my default browser.

I am having trouble with Silverlight, which is necessary to stream movies on Netflix. Every time I click on a movie to watch I get a prompt to install Silverlight, even though I have already done so. This occurs on Firefox, my default brower, but not on Safari or Chrome.
I am running a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.7.3. It seems there is some incompatibility problem that affects Firefox but not other browsers. I could switch to Safar or Chrome as my default browser or stay with Firefox and use another browser for Netflix, but neither solution is perfect, and I would love to get Netflix to work on Firefox.

I need to populate the bays of my new MacPro 2.66 with 5GB RAM. The stock HD turns out to be a Seagate 250GB HD ST3250820A. I've found them online and wonder if I just should RAID three or four of them as opposed to one Seagate 500GBs or 750 with 32GB cache? These would all be a Raid run by Apple software not a RAID card.

I’ll try to be as specific as I can. I’m running Safari 5.1.7
From time to time, Safari seems to encounter a problem with opening https (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure). Either the page won’t open or the page will take deveral minutes to load (like four minutes to load Twitter home page).
When it happens, it seems to cause Safari the misbehave with any other page: Safari becomes in effect broken. Meanwhile, pages load normally in Chrome or Firefox.
Sometimes, restarting the computer will fix the problem (for a while), but sometime it doesn’t. I’ve also tried to empty Safari’s cache and flush its DNS. It doesn’t always work. I coming here because I restarted by computer half an hour ago and pages are still loading in Safari.
Other valuable information:
1) The problem with https existed prior to me upgrading to 5.1.7
2) I can be using Safari for days before I encounter the problem
3) I usually work with thre or four windows open, each loaded with about ten tabs.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have set up and sucessfully tested a workflow which sends any file found in a particular folder to the "paperless" app, then moves all files to a different folder called "Archived attachments".HOWEVER as a folder action, nothing happens when a file is put into the folder. The file just sits there in the folder. To create a folder action I opened "new folder action" in Automator, then dragged and dropped the working workflow file into the workspace, then set "Folder Action recieves files and folders added to" the appropriate folder, let's call it "Attachments".Just to complicate things, the files are placed into the "Attachments" folder using an applescript that captures all pdf mail attachments. I'm brand new to mac, just got a 15" mbp. On my PC I was constantly used to clearing cookies, temp files, history, etc under properties on IE, because for security reasons, and to keep viruses at bay. What does the "Empty Cache" feature do on Safari 4? Is that the same as clearing cookies?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSafari 5.0.5. MacOS 10.6.8..I am developping complex HTML+JavaScript. I notice that after a while (~30 mn) Safari does not clear its cache and re-uses old JS scripts. I have caches disabled in the development menu. Clearing cache or reinitialize Safari from the Safari menu is of no help.Only way is to delete the cache.db file in Libray/cache/com.apple.safari, exit Safari, empty trash, then relaunch !
