Applications :: Deleting Files Removed From ITunes?
Jun 17, 2010
Over the last year, when wanted to deleted something from iTunes, especially podcasts - I often by accident clicked the "keep files" option when asking about moving the files to the trash...
Now, I assume that these files are still clogging my HD - so - is there a way to delete these "lost" files automatically?
I need to free up room on my hard drive. I would like to delete all my .ipa apps. Can I do that? I have itunes match, and I also sync to icloud. I know when I want to reinstall an app I just do that through the cloud. I have deleted apps to test that this is ok but the apps end up getting reinstalled. Here is what I want to do:
1. delete all my .ipa files on my computer to save a lot of hard drive space (I have a lot of apps....)
2. stop syncing to my computer, and only sync to icloud
3. rely on itunes match for backing up music
4. have calendar and contacts sync through icloud
5. if I need to reinstall apps do that through the tab on the app store for 'purchases.'
I imported DV video into imovie 06 (i have ilife 08 but like most others dont like using imovie 08) did my editing in movie 06. I then clicked on the idvd button, it opened idvd (08) but it hadnt imported the movie, so i simply went to the imovie file in finder and dragged and dropped it into idvd.
I then created an idvd project with the themes and all that jazz, clicked burn, and it took around 2 hours. I checked it in a dvd player, and it was perfect.
My question is now, can i delete the imovie 06 file from my comp. Its 12gb, and i have quite a few more to do, i was hoping that when id edited all my movies, i would be able to delete the movie files, in order to free my space back up. however i want to be able to make more copies.
Basically, Will i be able to burn more copies of the dvd, if i delete the imovie file?
Iv read things about 'image files' aswell, which might be part of it, im not sure, but as far as i know, i havnt done any other encoding or fancy importing when i put my movie into idvd.
I've recently switched to a MBP after years using Windows/Linux.
Time Machine sounded ideal but seems to have issues with FileVault (if I wasn't on the same network as the NAS the logout process took >15 minutes, presumably whilst it looked for it).
I'm currently using the bundled Memeo Backup software. It works okay except it doesn't have any way to delete old files from the backup and is rapidly consuming space on the NAS.
iTunes keeps deleting my songs! I had this problem with iTunes 7, and the problem went away with the update to 8.0.1. But with the 8.0.2, the problem came back. It deleted one album so far, and I have no way to retrieve this file. My iTunes folder is in my external HD, and I don't back that up regularly.
i've noticed lately that itunes has been deleting music from the hard drive.I have a pretty big music collection(about 80gb)This has been happening for the past few days now.My itunes library is on an airport disk but for some reason itunes deletes them from the hard drive.I have no idea why, i've tried looking through preferences but nothing.
I have all the latest Mac and iTunes software and can't figure out how to delete incorrect album art work in iTunes. I've downloaded the correct art work but it adds it to the file and doesn't delete the incorrect one. The incorrect one still shows in iTunes and on my ATV's. I'm new to the Mac as well.
Okay I must be missing something, but how do you delete Music Videos in iTunes? The delete key seems to have no purpose and there's no delete option in any menu. If this is a stupid question then I apologize, but man, I feel like it should be easier.
I have a fair bit of music in iTunes, and it has bugged me somewhat that often when I want to delete many files something it's easier to go into a playlist to find them. But when I delete them from there it only removes them from that playlist, not the computer. I guess this makes sense, and I suppose nowadays space isn't often a problem.
In case this isn't clear, what I want to do is go into a playlist, then select songs, then delete those songs from my hard drive.
Can this ONLY be down via the Library? That's the only time I ever find myself clicking on it, is to delete songs. Is there any way at all for me to delete through the play list through an addon, script, etc?
I have my iTunes library on an external drive. I'm deleting a bunch of old music that I dont listen to in order to free up some space.
1. For some albums, I deleted them from iTunes, but I did not delete them from the hard drive(I did not get prompted, as iTunes was confused at the time and did not think the external drive was plugged in). Is there a way to figure out what files exist on the hardrive that were deleted in iTunes so that I can clean them up? Some utility maybe....
2. Many of the albums have a separate cover art jpg in the directory that does not get deleted. Is there a utility or easy way to scan the disk and clean these up as well?
When I used to delete a song from my iTunes library it would ask me if I wanted to also remove it completely from my computer. Now it no longer does and I cannot find a option to get that back. Can someone tell me where I can get iTunes to do this again?
I accidentally trashed my private folder and then emptied my trash. I have looked into it and everyone has answers on how to reinstall it if I didn't empty the trash but the issue is I did empty the trash. My computer won't start up all the way as you would imagine. I have my disk and everything but I do not have all of my things backed up or archived.
My issue is I can easily reinstall Mac OS X 10.4 but I have some vital videos and footage for a video we are working on that I cannot deleted or take the chance of losing. Does anyone know a way I can back up the movie files or any way of doing anything of that sort? This is very important I do not have the tapes anymore with the raw footage on it so if I lose this footage pretty much our last year of work and filming is ruined and so is our release date in two weeks.
How do you transfer existing files from a removed harddive to a macbook pro? I need to transfer my files from a removed hard rive to my macbook pro. How do I do that?
But I have 2 files IN the Trash that, when I try a delete them by clicking EMPTY, I get a response that they cant be permanently removed as they are in use. Other files deleted permanently just fine. But these 2 wont. And they aren't in use. I have no applications open. I have restarted my MAC and still they are 'in use'.
Whenever I go into iTunes I get a message that there is a download that still needs to download. this is from an album I purchased over a year ago. For some reason the album downloaded but it is still sitting in the download que. So everytime I open iTunes it ask for my password in order to complete the download. How can I just delete the thing? When I right click and select delete from the drop down menu it goes away until I close iTunes and open it back up again. When I actual try to download the purchase I get the following message:
There were problems downloading some purchased items.
I'm not talking about a tool like Onyx, which is "excellent". Definitely the best, most simplest maintenance tool/utility.app for the Mac.I'm talking a simple tool for searching, editing and deleting both specific .plist files and cache files on an app-by-app basis. Is there one?I know of PrefEdit, but that is only for .plist (preference) files, and leaves out cache files:
I need, well desperately want; one that does both.Yeah I could use AppZapper, but I would prefer something that is designed for this specific purpose. Anyone?
Upgrading to iTunes 10.6 on my mac removed all music from my iTunes library. I have managed to recover the music but all my playlists have gone. Is there any way to recover them (other than painfully recreating them from backups) ?
Lately I've been noticing that my devices are still registering as being plugged in, even after removing them. Their icons never disappear after removing devices (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV 1st gen). I can click the eject button and the icon disappears, but thats just a workaround.
Is it possible to replace a movie that has been removed from the movie part of iTunes by using TimeMachine as I had backed up my Mac just before the loss?
Info: 2.93GHz Intel Core i7, Mac OS X (10.6.7), Memory 8GB also Mac OS X now (10.7)
program that deletes configuration files and traces of programs not currently installed. After years of different macs and backups I probably have traces of a lot of junk and don't wish to go through every little folder and delete them manually. Is there a program that scans what you have in your applications folder or otherwise and detects what you have installed, what's not and deletes the orphaned configs and application support files?
Yesterday I downloaded safari 5 and it was working fine. Then I tried to customize the toolbar but when I click on "Customize Toolbar", nothing happens (same with when I try it from the menu bar). Now I've been clicking around a bit and I accidentally removed the address bar and now I have to navigate via Wikipedia: Google Search URL. Does anybody know how to customize the toolbar? I have re-downloaded safari already
I've upgraded to iTunes 10.1 and every time I open it I get the following message. I've tried accepting multiple times and still no luck. I've removed the rule from the firewall settings, rebooted and opened iTunes again.
I'm trying to switch from 10.4 to 10.5 - my god, the Finder has become even weirder here. Whenever I want to delete a file from a file server (that sits on a Linux machine and is mounted with smb) I get the message "The item XXX will be deleted immediately. Are you sure you want to continue?". This happens even with my own files. This as such is not the problem, has been like that all the time.
The annoying problem is that now (with 10.5) the default is "Cancel" while it was before (with 10.4) "Delete". This mean that I have to use the mouse to delete instead of just hitting Enter another time. I hate that! Is there a way (or utility perhaps) to change the default to "Delete"? I would not mind to dig into the System for that, I just don't know how to do it.
I am stuck with a problem. The problem is that I have two folders. What i'd like is that when I place an item in the main folder it automatically duplicates in the second folder thus keeping both folders in sync.
The folders are in seprate locations within the system. Is this possible? Maybe an Automator action?
