View 14 RepliesI accidentally deleted the wrong tracks. They landed in the trash. I found out, pulled it out of the trash and put it back into the folder where they were. Only: iTunes doesn't see them there. How can I import songs into iTunes that are already on my hard drive? Just dropping the song files into the right folder doesn't work. iTunes doesn't see them.
View 1 Replies View RelatediTunes keeps deleting my songs! I had this problem with iTunes 7, and the problem went away with the update to 8.0.1. But with the 8.0.2, the problem came back. It deleted one album so far, and I have no way to retrieve this file. My iTunes folder is in my external HD, and I don't back that up regularly.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have my iTunes library on an external drive. I'm deleting a bunch of old music that I dont listen to in order to free up some space.
1. For some albums, I deleted them from iTunes, but I did not delete them from the hard drive(I did not get prompted, as iTunes was confused at the time and did not think the external drive was plugged in). Is there a way to figure out what files exist on the hardrive that were deleted in iTunes so that I can clean them up? Some utility maybe....
2. Many of the albums have a separate cover art jpg in the directory that does not get deleted. Is there a utility or easy way to scan the disk and clean these up as well?

I transferred all my itunes library to an external hard drive.I had all my songs in itunes and then went to "preferences" and set itunes to look on my external hard drive for my itunes. Then I went to "library" and then "consolidate", and it moved all my library over to my external. I can verify that my songs are all there on my externalHowever, now, itunes won't play any songs of mine. I double click on the song in itunes and it just wont play. There's no error message, there's no exclamation point, it just won't play. Any idea what is goign on? Preferences still shows that my library is directing to the external
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had an external hard drive that started to act wonky and wouldn't mount. I was able to get to mount one last time and transfer the contents over to a new hard drive. Now every time I start iTunes there is a message about checking for gapless playback. I believe there are 82 tracks. It goes by rather fast so it is hard to read each and every title. The ones I have read upon checking I find that the songs have no content. They just don't exist. When you go to control I instead of the track showing the length it shows Not Available.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to free up room on my hard drive. I would like to delete all my .ipa apps. Can I do that? Â I have itunes match, and I also sync to icloud. I know when I want to reinstall an app I just do that through the cloud. I have deleted apps to test that this is ok but the apps end up getting reinstalled. Here is what I want to do:
1. delete all my .ipa files on my computer to save a lot of hard drive space (I have a lot of apps....)
2. stop syncing to my computer, and only sync to icloud
3. rely on itunes match for backing up music
4. have calendar and contacts sync through icloud
5. if I need to reinstall apps do that through the tab on the app store for 'purchases.'Â

I have an iPod, but I just got a droid mobile phone, and I want to use them both for music. In order to get my "protected" songs purchased from the iTunes store on to the phone I have burned them on to cds and imported them as MP3s into iTunes. So now I've got over 100 duplicate songs (protected and mp3), and I want to delete the protected versions so that the remaining mp3 versions will sync with both my iPod and my droid phone.
If I delete these protected (purchased) songs from the library, will they remain in the iTunes Music folder on my pc or will they be completely removed from my hard drive, too?
Then, if they are completely deleted from my pc, is there any way to recover these deleted purchased songs if I ever wanted to in the future?

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy mac had a lot of unused files so I downloaded "Disc Inventory X" to clean up my hard drive. I start searching using the app and I deleteted like a good 40 gigs. Then I notice a folder called ".Trash" that has everything that I recently deleted in it! I also notice that .Trash is one of the few folders where you can't delete the contents. how do you permanently delete files so they actually get deleted and not moved into a different place where you can't delete them? And how do you delete all the files in .Trash?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently switched over to a Mac from a PC which I've had for years. Since I never had a photo storage program on my PC, all my photos were kept in folders on my hard drive. When I got my Mac, all my photos were imported into iPhoto and now I simply use iPhoto for everything I upload. My question is, can I delete the old photos (now imported into iPhoto but still on my hard drive in seperate folders) from my hard drive to save space without deleting them from iPhoto? I checked my settings and I do have the "copy to iPhoto library" option checked but I don't know if that makes a difference. Any information would be helpful - it would be nice if I knew I could delete photos that are essentially duplicates to save space on my hard drive.

Not sure, but for some reason my mac hard drive has got to be 95% full. I know where all the things I put on my laptop are and have added them up and they do not equal up to 132 GB of space. I have deleted the Previous Systems folder which was taking up a lot of space. Where are there more mysterious locations that are taking up space that are not needed and safe to delete?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently got rid of a partition I had made for bootcamp since I never use it, and would rather have the space back. I deleted the partition through disc utility, and then through the partition tab, tried to get back that space by dragging down the tab to restore the space originally set for the partition. When I go to apply this change, it notifies that my hard drive will be re-sized. I accept and then a few minutes later it comes back with the error "Partition failed with the error: Filesystem verify or repair failed" Does anybody know how I can restore this space successfully back into my main hard drive? I've attached some screenshots
View 10 Replies View RelatedI had downloaded some files to add to an external hard drive, the hard drive was assigned to a pc before adding these files so it wouldn't let me add files from my MacBook..Â
Had a look around online and made some changes (well thats what I thought) and I was able to transfer files form my MacBook onto the external hard drive.Â
What I then figured out was that there was nothing left on the hard drive except for the two file sI just transferred..Â
It turns out I deleted everyting without noticing.
The stpes I followed was to go to disk utility then select the hard drive and click erase (not knowing this would erase evrything).Â
So now I have two files on my hard drive and no idea how to recover the 'delted' files.Â
I tried using Disk Drill, which found the files but then it said I need to buy the full version to recover them.Â
I am wondering if there is any free methods to recover these files at all

I can't find a thread that addresses my particular problem, so I'm hoping somebody out there can point me in the right direction. I have a 100gb iTunes folder on my MacBook which I wish to transfer to my new iMac. Rather than simply copy it across to the iMac's HD, I would rather copy it to an external HD and then run iTunes from the external HD connected to my iMac. So my question is simply what is the best way to do this.
Also, can anyone recommend a great external HD which won't expire after 6 months?
I have the latest version of iTunes. I used to store my itunes music on an 80gb firewire drive. Got a new 500gb usb drive. transferred all files manually to this new drive. in iTunes i changed my media folder to this new drive. However alot of files aren't being read or found so i must locate each manually. Is there anything I can do to make iTunes read from the new hard drive now?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm on Tiger 10.4.11, and the latest iTunes. I have an external hard drive on which I keep all my music files, managed by iTunes. I'm running out of room on that drive. At some point, it is not practical to keep increasing the size of the drive, as the reliability goes down. I'd like to keep my drives to 1TB or so. So, the other solution is to add a second external hard drive, where all new music files can go to. How to do it, so iTunes doesn't freak out? Here's what I'm thinking - could you guys help make it work?
I thought to add the second drive and then in iTunes preferences -->Advanced---> iTunes Music folder location CHANGE to the NEW drive. That way, I'd have iTunes copy all new music to the NEW DRIVE. Question: Now, how do I go about having iTunes reference files on the FIRST drive, so that the Library is up to date, and when I select something to play from the FIRST drive, iTunes knows how to find it?
Is it possible take a playlist of songs and put those songs onto an external hard drive without finding each song in the finder and dragging it into the hard drive? I want to move just a certain few songs from my Mac Pro to my Power Book and I'd rather not waste CDs/DVDs in the process... but getting each file individually would be a huge waste of time. How can I make this process easier?
View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst I am really sorry if this has been brought up a lot but I am seriousply stuck and have no idea what to do and I know this is Mac stuff but I thought it would be better then anywhere else. I have looked on Apple.com and nothing has been able to help. Well here it is I am having trouble trying to get my music from my external Hard Drive.
So my old laptop took a crap on me. I took it in and they told me it would cost more to fix it then to just by a whole new one so I did just that. Well before the company gave me back my old laptop they asked if I wanted all my files backed up onto a external Hard Drive that way I don't have to fuss with it later. So I went out that day and bought a "My Book" External Hard Drive. They did it and well now I am trying to get my iTunes music from that and there isn't any folders of music when I open up the iTunes folder all I have is
-Album Artwork (File Folder)
-Mobile Applications (File Folder)
-Previous iTunes Libraries (File Folder)
-iTunes Library (iTunes Database File
-iTunes Music Library (XML Document)
I have tried dragging them in (When I do that a "UB" is under the iTunes symbol) , I have tried adding File, Adding Folder and nothing happens... it shows nothing in there. Then when I click on them to open all it does is open iTunes and nothing happens. I have tried downloading a couple of programs to get the music off my iPod but they all said there is no iPod connected when it was. I have also tried to unistall iTunes and try and go into the iPod and see if I can get it that way and there wasn't anything in there beside the folders for contacts, photos etc. (Still nothing even in those folders) Please I don't know what else to do and I can't just go onto that old laptop and do an easy transfer since the motherboard went out on it. Is there any hope at all or am I stuck with an unusable iTunes and iPod?
