But I have 2 files IN the Trash that, when I try a delete them by clicking EMPTY, I get a response that they cant be permanently removed as they are in use. Other files deleted permanently just fine.But these 2 wont. And they aren't in use. I have no applications open. I have restarted my MAC and still they are 'in use'.Â

Now in XP I was able to remove certain files from the trash bin. I never actually emptied the entire trash bin, but once in a while would delete the oldest files from the trash bin and keep the new ones.
Is this possible in OS X? I was only able to empty the entire trash bin, but not certain parts of it.
I recently reset the boot thingy, (with shift-control-r-p) and repaired disk permissions. now if I delete something it will ask "are you sure you want to delete XXX, this item will be deleted immediately, you cant undo this action"
google this and it seems more ppl are wanting this feature but I dont, how do I get it back my normal trash bin? I tried in Finder's preferences, didnt work.
I do not have the OS CD I need to erase all content, however I have done that manually by just dragging all of my old files to the trash and permanently deleting them.

When I try to delete a file by right-clicking and choose "move to trash" I get a message telling me that the item will be deleted permanently and that I cannot undo this action. In other words it is possible to delete a file permanently, but I would like to have the option to move them to the trash first. I have recently tried to partition the internal hard-drive using Boot Camp, however unsuccessfully. I don't know if the two are related. You can't undo this action.' And the files do NOT go into trash. Same if I CMD delete. I noticed this when I emptied the Aperture trash, got a warning something about permissions and cannot empty some files. They disappeared from Aperture, but the referenced master files were still in the original folder on my HD.(So I relocated the masters I was keeping, then deleted the remaining, they did not go into the trash but were permanently deleted). I don't recall changing any settings!I checked in Finder > Preferences > Advanced > 'Empty trash securely' is NOT selected.

I've just accidentally deleted the Hotmail mailbox from Mail. Mac says it's removed 'permanently' unless Time Machine is on, which is not. Does anyone know any other way I can add Hotmail to Mail again?

I was cleaning up my jumpdrive and accidently put a locked safegaurd file in the trash so when I went to empty the trash it emptied everything but that. Then I went in and moved a copy of the safegaurd file from the trash to the desktop then to the jumpdrive. Now the file is safely back on my jumpdrive, but I have useless files in my trash that I can't delete. How do I do it??

When I empty my trash they all delete except 2 particular files. They have weird names with symbols in them. I don't know if it matters but when I press get info it says they are in the Windows XP .Trashes folder. I used a hidden file application to look for them and delete them but that didn't work. I can't drag them out the trash can. There is nothing showing in Windows XP in the recycle bin. I tried verifying the disk. Overall, nothing has worked at all and I've searched everywhere for an answer.

Is there a way to completely remove files from my system without moving them to the Trash?  I've read about the Trash, but I'm not clear on EXACTLY how it works. Can I empty A file from the trash or when I click on a file & choose "Emtpy the Trash" does it empty ALL of the files in the Trash or just that one file?  Is there a way to just empty ONLY 1 file from the trash or restore ONLY 1 file from the Trash if so how? ALSO, what are the "rules" for MOVING files rather than COPYing them? I thought files that went from one folder to another on the same drive, were moved & ones that went to different drives were copied. It seems like I've run acrorss instances where that's not how things work.

1) When I set a program to auto-clean files (for example, deleting source rar files after unpacking) it doesn't work

I have an issue that is affecting both my MBP and iMac. I believe it is due to a Blackberry mobile phone but not entirely sure.Â
In the bluetooth prefs, when i click the 'advanced' button, my computers are listing 2 extra serial ports, both default as active (on} and with no authentication.
I have tried deleting the bluetooth preferences file but it makes no difference. Every time i delete these serial ports, they reappear a short time later and also on every restart. It is as if the bluetooth defaults have been permanently modified Â
The reason i found these odd settings was because a bluetooth PAN had mysteriously appeared in my network settings. This happened on both my computers so maybe it is possible that i have inadvertently installed a trojan on both machines. Also, going back a few months, i had to call Apple to remove an iPhone that had been added under my Apple ID. I have never owned an iPhone so i wonder if this bluetooth issue is related to that.Â
