i've noticed lately that itunes has been deleting music from the hard drive.I have a pretty big music collection(about 80gb)This has been happening for the past few days now.My itunes library is on an airport disk but for some reason itunes deletes them from the hard drive.I have no idea why, i've tried looking through preferences but nothing.
View 4 RepliesOkay I must be missing something, but how do you delete Music Videos in iTunes? The delete key seems to have no purpose and there's no delete option in any menu. If this is a stupid question then I apologize, but man, I feel like it should be easier.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a fair bit of music in iTunes, and it has bugged me somewhat that often when I want to delete many files something it's easier to go into a playlist to find them. But when I delete them from there it only removes them from that playlist, not the computer. I guess this makes sense, and I suppose nowadays space isn't often a problem.
In case this isn't clear, what I want to do is go into a playlist, then select songs, then delete those songs from my hard drive.
When I used to delete a song from my iTunes library it would ask me if I wanted to also remove it completely from my computer. Now it no longer does and I cannot find a option to get that back. Can someone tell me where I can get iTunes to do this again?

They are now removed form the itunes library but how do I find all the files no longer in itunes, but still held in the itunes directory? Also, I read that there could also be many duplicates, is there a way I can find them as well? I dont want to have to buy a third party program.

My son's iPod Touch is associated with iTunes on a computer other than mine which isn't with us at the moment. He has no music on it at the moment - just apps. Is it possible for me to add some songs to it from my iTunes without erasing the apps that he currenly has on it? Or will adding the songs wipe the content of the device off.

I just got an external hard drive because I have thousands of songs that my macbook cannot hold.
I am using Time Machine to put everything on my external but I was wondering....if I delete the music on my computer so that I just have it on my external - will Time machine delete it off my external when it automatically updates since it is no longer on my computer?
I want to download more music but am scared of losing any old music.
At the moment most of my music is either stored on my Macbook or on an external hard drive. Is it possible to transfer all my music and videos to an external hard drive and then sync it with Itune so that every time I plug it in I can access them?
View 6 Replies View RelatediTunes keeps deleting my songs! I had this problem with iTunes 7, and the problem went away with the update to 8.0.1. But with the 8.0.2, the problem came back. It deleted one album so far, and I have no way to retrieve this file. My iTunes folder is in my external HD, and I don't back that up regularly.

I've downloaded the correct art work but it adds it to the file and doesn't delete the incorrect one. The incorrect one still shows in iTunes and on my ATV's. I'm new to the Mac as well.

Now, I assume that these files are still clogging my HD - so - is there a way to delete these "lost" files automatically?
I have my iTunes library on an external drive. I'm deleting a bunch of old music that I dont listen to in order to free up some space.

For some albums, I deleted them from iTunes, but I did not delete them from the hard drive(I did not get prompted, as iTunes was confused at the time and did not think the external drive was plugged in). Is there a way to figure out what files exist on the hardrive that were deleted in iTunes so that I can clean them up? Some utility maybe....
2. Many of the albums have a separate cover art jpg in the directory that does not get deleted. Is there a utility or easy way to scan the disk and clean these up as well?
How do I do this? It seems that when I hit Delete on a song in my library it just takes it off iTunes and doesn't move to the trash.

View 1 Replies View Related...now I don't have the same functionality with iTunes. Basically, I can't use iTunes at all anymore as the interface for my music and videos. Once the external drive is mounted, I can navigate through it and play individual songs, but I can't use iTunes to do that. All my previous Playlists show up down the left side of iTunes, but there isn't any music in them.
I downloaded 2 songs yesterday, made a Playlist out of them, and because the path in the Advanced tab of the iTunes Preferences is correct, it automatically added the songs to the external hard drive. I synced my iPod and it was completely erased except for the 2 new songs. Is there a way to use iTunes to navigate my music like I used to when I stored the information on the internal hard drive but keep the information on the external drive? I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and the latest version of iTunes.
I just switched from PC to Macbook pro. How can i transfer music in itunes in my PC to itunes in my new mac. Is there any free sofware i could use to transfer all the music? Okay so i downloaded the the iTunes 10, and installed it!
But the when i would like to see my Music Libary all my music was GONE!
Whenever I open up iTunes on Vista x86 it appears empty with all my playlist, videos etc. gone. The folder that iTunes gets my music from hasn't changed. When I open iTunes the iTunes Library Extras and iTunes Library Genius are always sent to the recycle bin and there is nothing I can do to stop that from happening. When I check my music folder new versions of those files are there. I am really scared that I won't be able to get my music back as I have a lot.

However, I just noticed that they now claim that all music is now iTunes Plus.. but I still have 127 purchased tracks in my library that are not iTunes plus. I looked up the music in the itunes store, and sure enough, it is iTunes plus there. How do I get itunes to upgrade these 127 tracks for 30 cents per track or $3.00 per album?

I try and close down and open iTunes back up but nothing, I restart my xp computer and still nothing. So I look under file explorer and it seems like all my music is still located under the "iTunes music" folder. So I uninstalled all the apple products on my computer and reinstalled iTunes 9 et. Al. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my ITunes, the file shows up when clicked on to play, but the sound does not come out of the speakers. The song is highlighted in the juke box, the play button show a darker grey, but the song does not play, nor does the time advance or the pause button does not appear. TV shows, that I have downloaded for my daughter from the ITunes store, play video fine, but again, no audio. I have the up to date Quickplay, the audio level on ITunes is on max, the stereo speakers play on the internet fine. The system is a g4, with the current ITunes updates. I am still able to load music into ITunes, and transfer the music on to my IPod, my daughters IPod ano, and my wife's IPhone.
