We have a 320gb external hard drive formatted in FAT32 so both the macbook and our windows computer could use the drive. We copied 5 gigs of music to the hard drive to view on the Windows computer. The computer recognizes the drive and shows that 5 gigs are being used but I cant see any of the files.

I bought a new 500GB WD hard drive for my Late 2008 MacBook to upgrade from my 250GB drive. I have a hard drive enclosure, but I was wondering if when I install my 500GB hard drive, would I be able to use the enclosure to transfer files from my 250GB drive? Then I went to "library" and then "consolidate", and it moved all my library over to my external. I can verify that my songs are all there on my externalHowever, now, itunes won't play any songs of mine. I double click on the song in itunes and it just wont play. I just received a replacement computer for a defective machine. Its a brand new macbook pro. I transferred old files with time machine only to have the new machine resume a series of kernel panics that caused the replacement. The Genius Bar asked me to reload everything from scratch so as not to transfer corrupt files. I did so -- with the most up to date dmg files out there, and 4 days later had another kernel panic. I do not know what it means but have pasted it below.

I have successfully transferred all my music from windows to my new iMac, but I am unable to drag and drop them into iTunes. I was told before purchasing that this would be no problem. I have 2 Imacs, both running OS 10.9.3. The run on a simple office ethernet wired network. We have had no problems until yesterday when suddenly one of the Imacs (Imac A) disappeared from the network. Imac A could see Imac B but not the other way round. Imac A connected to Imac BÂ but was denied access to all the folders under the user directory on Imac B. The folders all have the no entry icon on them and if I try to open them I get the message "can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents" . I have checked that the sharing set up on both machines allows access read and write on items and we have been successfully sharing files for months.Â
I have hooked up an old Mac Pro running 10.8.6. to the network. It can see both the Imacs but when I transferred files from that machine to Imac B I got the message "can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents". I've checked and the permissions on this folder are set for all to read and write.Â
So far I have checked and repaired privileges using disk first aid.Â
The Imacs are both 3.1ghz Quad core i5 running 10.9.3.
My intel iMac hard drive crashed. I had it backed up with Carbon Copy Cloner. The technician who fixed the hard drive put SL on the new hard drive. I tried to restore with CCC first but it didn't restore anything. I used Migration Assistant and it asked about duplicate user names so I gave it a new name to be safe. I now have all my apps but no files. I used MA again and decided to use the same user name this time. I ended up with 2 accounts with the same name but no files. I was hoping to end up with the same computer (e.g. same desktop, all files in the same folders as before, iPhoto, iCal, Address Book, Dashboard etc. all organized and acting the same way as before). Every looking and acting the same way with the exception of the subtle changes brought about by SL.

So today I managed to drop my MacBook a short distance to the ground. I can't believe I did this. The computer was asleep at the time and, as far as I can tell, the internal HDD is perfectly fine. After I dropped the computer it wouldn't at first wake up from sleep. After removing the battery and replacing it, it booted back from the state saved to the HDD. My problem is that my optical drive makes noises now. I never use it, but whenever the machine tries to access it (waking from sleep, launching Disk Utility, etc) it makes noises as if the eject mechanism is running constantly or something else like that. The case also slightly bulges where the drive is. Now, if it doesn't work ever again I will only be slightly sad. I haven't tried to put a disc in it yet, but because of a previous spill by a previous answer the fibers around the opening are so stiff that getting a disc out of the drive when it works is a pain. Any ideas of what might be wrong and how to possibly fix it? I haven't tried resetting the drive, I don't have the time tonight.

It wouldn't be such a big deal except I had about a year of photos which I had not backed up. I purchased around $300 of various (and supposedly reputable) data and photo recovery software; however, none of them worked. I could recover thumbnails and that's it.
I currently have a Macbook with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor running OSx 10.5.8. I also have Parallels with Windows XP. My question is: If I buy a suitable adapter to connect my Vaio's hard drive to my Mac, could I potentially try something else to recover the photos? Or would it just be a waste of time?

Before my HD (240 Gb SSD) had around 120Gb free space, but after the attempted transfer I get a warning that my startup drive is almost full (500 Mb free space).Â

Okay. Ronda is right. I have a MacBook, not Pro. I have tons of harddrive space left. I ran the Repair Disk Permissions. I checked the 'get info' on the harddrive. All permissions in order. I'm away from the office and don't have an external drive to save to, or I'd try that. I'm logged in as the admin. Is my harddrive going south? I have an old version of M.Office. I'm gonna close that and try saving something else to see if it's created a conflict. It really slows the processer down.

View 4 Replies View RelatedBasically I just got myself the latest MacBook as an upgrade from an old laptop. With my old laptop I had no problems what so ever when using my external hard drive. To delete any files I didn't want I would just right click and press the delete option. However, when connected to my new Mac, there is no such option when right clicking on a file. I've tried dragging the file to a recycling bin but I get a message from the finder saying this file can't be deleted. I've tried moving the file out of my hard drive which worked and then deleting it which was fine but the file remained in the external hard drive as I'd only created a copy. I can't figure out how to delete files I don't want. Deleting everything on the hard drive is out of the question.
