View 2 RepliesI just purchased a MBP (prev gen) about a week ago, and I've been noticing something weird in the dock. This usually happens a few minutes after I boot the computer from being completely off, but what seems like an Application quickly shows in my dock and then disappears. It happens in a split second and there's not enough time to see what it is. It just opens and closes. I haven't installed much on this MBP, just Office, Firefox, Visualhub, Mactracker and perian and flip4mac. I have all these Applications installed on my iMac and I have never seen this happen before.
View 7 Replies View RelatedYou can assign the application in the dock to a desktop. But can you hide the application in the dock in the desktop where it is not assigned? That is, the dock in each desktop should show only the app icons that are assigned to that desktop. Possible? Within OS X or via an app?

I use a Voip application called Sipgate, and when I open Sipgate there is a Menubar icon and an icon in the dock. I would like to have this app open all the time but not show up in the dock, only in my menubar.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago I noticed that my open application icons weren't showing up in the dock. The only icons that will are the ones permanently docked there. I don't recall any software installations or setting changes I made, but its very possible I unknowingly changed something.

Some apps, like tweetie for example have a global show/hide shortcut. I want to set it for some of my other apps that do not have this feature built in, is there an app for that?
I am new to the Mac OS world as i only got a mac one week ago. I'm learning lots of new stuff everyday but can't seem to figure out how to make my applications show up at the Guest Account Dock or even at the Applications folder for that matter.
I got Microsoft Office for Mac and it works fine and all on my User account (admin) but i cant make it show up at the applications folder or at the dock so when someone borrows my laptop for some office editing they have to be logged on my account.
Is there a way to customize the applications that show up on Guest Accounts? Ps: Love my macbook air. It makes me never want to touch another PC laptop again.
I am looking for a way to move my dock to my second monitor but not my menu bar. Any thoughts? I don't want to arrange my second monitor below my first because that's confusing and messes up other things I have going on .
View 5 Replies View RelatedSince a few days something randomly appears in the dock for a split second. It doesn't stay on for enough time to really see what it is. I've tried to narrow it down but I couldn't find anything in the logs. All I know is that perceived by peripheral vision, it looks similar to the Console icon. I'd really like to know, since this behavior is quite suspicious. Is there an app recording the start of a new process? Alternatively I could make a screenshot every 125ms, but that's not really an elegant solution (plus an image of this icon). I haven't installed anything except Lyx and ProVoc recently.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi just downloaded candybar. after changing some of my dock icons, i decided i didn't like them. so in candybar i clicked "reset dock", which apparently was supposed to reset my dock icons back to normal. now my dock is just missing. i have googled and looked throughout this forum and have tried everything everyone has suggested. i do not have a back up of my mac os x on time machine, so that won't work either. it isn't hiding, it's just NOT there! any help would be greatly appreciated. if nothing works, do you suggest going to the apple store i bought
View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone know if there is a way to put a show desktop item on the dock. I'm really lost without it, I hate having to minimize like 5 windows just to get to the desktop
View 24 Replies View RelatedI like to autohide the dock but it reappears too slowly, is it possible to start the reappear effect before I touch the edge of the screen, say 1 inch in advance. Or just have the animation be faster?
View 22 Replies View RelatedOk, so you know when you have several windows open and they only show up at the dock when they are minimized?
I'd actually like to keep them all showing at the dock whether they are minimized or now.
How do I accomplish this?
I like to automatically hide the dock, because it gives me more space on the screen. Sadly, I can't see mail and Adium notifications when the dock is hidden.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to only hide the menu bar, but keep the dock unhidden? I tried Menu Magic, but it hides both. Menu Eclipse can a put a black bar on top of it, but you can't maximize windows to fill up the space it takes up.
Basically I want a "Turn Hiding On" feature for the menu bar.
When I turned on my computer, all the icons on the dock didn't show up. I know that they are there because when I put my mouse over it, the name shows up. They also work perfectly fine when i click on them, just the icon itself isn't showing up. How do I get them to show up?

I went to click on my iPhoto application and it wouldn't load, it had a gray question mark on it. I clicked it again and it got dragged onto finder, and when I released my mouse it made a poof sound. I remember doing this in the beginning when I got my laptop if you wanted to get rid of an application from the dock. I went to the Mac HD and went to applications and where iPhoto used to be, is now blank. I searched in Spotlight, and went to Applications<utilities.
Is there somewhere where I can re-download it from the Apple site? Or do I have to totally reformat my computer to bring it back to me.
I open iTunes and it shows the blue dot under the itunes icon in the dock which mean its open. I see the top bar with itunes on it but my main window i can not see. I have checked everything. And also when i do Expose to see all my windows i see itunes main windows that i need. When I click on it it doesnt show that window. How can i get it were i can see it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded Candybar and switched some of my icons / dock.
Now when I turn on my computer a few of the icon show a "?" - for example, program called "things for mac". This application does not show up in the candybar app folder.
When I activate the program it shows the correct icon, but the ? reoccurs when I turn off/on computer.
Anyway to keep the icons there without having to activate the program to show the icon? Frustrating that I turn on my computer and have "?" in my dock.
For some reason, my iTunes icon has decided that it won't stay in the Dock. When I open it, it will sit on the right of the dock, like any application that doesn't have a permanent place on the Dock. It shouldn't - it always used to live in the middle. However, if I drag it back there, it stays in place about 1 second, and then shoots back over to the right again. Even if I select "Keep in Dock" from the context menu, that clears as soon as it moves back to the right. As soon as I shut down iTunes, the icon disappears. I've done a lot of searching and it seems that loads of people have suffered this problem with various apps (i.e. it's not iTunes specific), but I've not yet found a solution. Some people have suggested it's a .Mac/mobile me syncing issue, but I've turned syncing off, reset syncing data, overwriting the mobile me Dock with my Mac Dock, everything I can think off - besides, the icon moves to the right so quickly that it's not had time to sync. Another suggestion I've seen is deleting com.apple.dock.plist, logging out and back in again. Even doing this and starting with a "virgin" Dock still sees iTunes refusing to stay. I've tried repairing disk permissions too.
View 10 Replies View RelatedYou know how there is a blue dot underneath an application's icon in the dock representing that the application is running? Is there a way to change this to another color? I don't see any option for it, so I think it's unlikely that it can be changed but if it can I'd appreciate being told how to change it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust noticed this happening in SL the last few days - app icons in my dock are starting to become invisible. The white dot underneath shows that it is running, but there is no icon. The icons are present on the apps themselves, but also do not show up when I look at stacks. Is it just yet another SL bug? Just to add: killing the Dock doesn't fix it, quitting the Finder doesn't fix it, and restarting the computer doesn't fix it.
View 11 Replies View RelatedThe problem began when I was attempting to force quit an app that had frozen last night. The Force Quit box wouldn't pop up and I got the rainbow pinwheel within Firefox. After the Force Quit box still wouldn't appear, I was able to shut down other apps and even able to restart the computer. Upon restart, once I tried to click an app on the dock, i'd see the icon bounce once or twice then just completely freeze. I'm able to move around the cursor arrow, but can't click anything.
This morning, I was able to open the Terminal (it never popped up in the dock for some reason) and did the 'killall Dock' command. At this point, my system started running real slow and I couldn't seem to double click anything. I had to cmnd + click 'Open' to get to the Activity Monitor. That opened, but then it froze and gave me the window pinwheel. I tried to force quit it, but it wouldn't quit. I had to hold down the power button to turn it off. When I tried rebooting, I couldn't even get to the Terminal anymore since now it would pop up in the dock when I opened it.
So i have it enabled, and that's great and all.
But the thing is, what are you supposed to do if you have more than one thing minimized? say 2 Safari Windows? Or the steam beta with 3 chats?
When you click to maximize you only get one, and then nothing else happens if you keep clicking with others minimized in there
Expose is nice but and you can right click on it, but is that it?
I cannot add an application icon in the dock.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI got a new MacBook Pro 15" retina display, migrated my data from my old mac, and now the Dock application is consuming a ton of CPU on the system. I have found many other threads in these forums, many of them quite old. They typically suggest a problem with VMWare fusion or Parallels, neither of which I have on my system. They also suggest removing the com.apple.dock.plist file and killing the application, which did not help, nor did removing all applications from the dock and quitting all other applications.
