so i downloaded quicktime off apple.com because i accidentally deleted it....after i finished installing and everything i couldnt find it in my applications folder and i searched for quicktime on finder and it wouldnt show up....whats wrong?
View 7 RepliesI have two WD 640gigs and the stock WD 500, and I am having trouble deciding on the the optimum configuration. I am open to suggestions. I use my computer for general use as well as for my video editing and graphic design hobbies if that info helps.
I am curious as to the benefits of of the following:
Drive 1 (640)
partition 1: 150gig for OS
partition 2: Bootcamp
remainder: Offline storage
Drive 2 (640)
partition 1: Applications
remainder: music/photos
(scratch disk here?)
Drive 3: (500)
Time machine
Would there be a noticeable benefit to having the applications being separate from the OS boot drive? What if anything else should be split across multiple HDs to increase speed? I've heard of moving the swap file from elsewhere on the forum but I am not sure as to what exactly that is nor the benefits of doing it.
My final question(s) is how exactly I could go by moving my application folder to another drive separate from the OS drive? Just drag and drop? What is this deal with making an alias?
I recently downloaded Candybar and switched some of my icons / dock.
Now when I turn on my computer a few of the icon show a "?" - for example, program called "things for mac". This application does not show up in the candybar app folder.
When I activate the program it shows the correct icon, but the ? reoccurs when I turn off/on computer.
Anyway to keep the icons there without having to activate the program to show the icon? Frustrating that I turn on my computer and have "?" in my dock.
I cant seem to find an app for this...
Some apps, like tweetie for example have a global show/hide shortcut. I want to set it for some of my other apps that do not have this feature built in, is there an app for that?
I am currently have a dual monitor setup. Is there any such application that can show / mimic a second dock for the other monitor?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI downloaded an app called Cyberduck, and put it in my Applications folder, as you normally would. But when I open it, it immediately closes again.What's weird is if I put the file in any other folder (Desktop, Downloads, etc) and open it, it opens fine, stays open, and works great.If I put it back in my Applications folder, problem returns.This has happened with a few versions of Cyberduck, in a few different 10.6.x versions of OS X, and both on my old iMac and new MBP.I've never seen this with any other program. Any ideas?

In finder on the sidebar, I can click on applications and voila, all of my applications are there but when I go to users and click on my name and the Applications folder (along with downloads, library, etc.) show up, the applications are not there.

I recently noticed that there was an application folder in my home folder (the folder with your username), but that application folder had been empty. I remember I used to be able to access to my applications from that folder, but not anymore.Â
Since the folder was empty, I deleted it before doing further research.Â
After deleting the empty application folder from the home folder, I looked up and some said the application folder in the home folder and the application folder in Macintosh HD are two different folders. I don't know what it means, but I would like to have an application folder with applications in my home folder. Is this possible? or should I just make an Alias folder and put it in my home folder?

When i use Outlook on my windows comp (or bootcmap partition) i can view my spam mail folder. Sometimes mail i want, end up in there, so its quite handy. Is there anyways i can activate this feature in Mac OSX mail? Or do i have to use entourage?

I just purchased a MBP (prev gen) about a week ago, and I've been noticing something weird in the dock. This usually happens a few minutes after I boot the computer from being completely off, but what seems like an Application quickly shows in my dock and then disappears. It happens in a split second and there's not enough time to see what it is. It just opens and closes. I haven't installed much on this MBP, just Office, Firefox, Visualhub, Mactracker and perian and flip4mac. I have all these Applications installed on my iMac and I have never seen this happen before.

For example , when making a thread, all the smilies and stuff have those white question marks in blue boxes.
Apparently the dongle just makes the mac all messed up and go crazy, and is reversible - have had a look on the web , but to no avail.
alright I'm a new mac user so i hope i dont get too much hate but i have a weird problem (i guess) when installing apps. When i drag the app to the applications folder then drag it to my dock, it shows the icon fine on the dock, but in the applications stack in my dock it doesnt. ill post a picture to show what i mean.

You can assign the application in the dock to a desktop. But can you hide the application in the dock in the desktop where it is not assigned? That is, the dock in each desktop should show only the app icons that are assigned to that desktop. Possible? Within OS X or via an app?

I have thousands of folders with images. I previously worked with ease in Windows because Explorer allowed me to view the contents of the folder without opening the folder. I could view and select in seconds.
Does Mac not have this capability that is found in Windows explorer? Do I need to set some permission in order to view the contents? I'm mystified as to why this isn't a set feature on the Mac. How do I get the contents of a folder in Mac to show *without* tediously opening up each folder?

The old computer was a Windows Vista with 10.6.040 itunes. I copied the entire itunes folder to an external hard drive. Interestingly, the media file in that folder was titled itunes music, not itunes media.Â
the new computer is OX10.7 Lion. No playlists, no purchased tab, but all the music is there. Â

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have all my TV Shows on an external drive. Sometimes, when I disconnect and then reconnect the external hard drive to my computer I have to drag and drop the files for them to show in my iTunes library and then Apple TV. However, when I drag and drop the TV shows into iTunes, they somehow always seem to default to the Movies folder, I then have to edit them manually for them to only to show in the TV show folder. how I only get these files to appear in the TV show folder and not the movie one?
