Jul 31, 2005Anyone know if there is a way to put a show desktop item on the dock. I'm really lost without it, I hate having to minimize like 5 windows just to get to the desktop

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Show An Application Only In The Dock Assigned To A Desktop?
May 6, 2012You can assign the application in the dock to a desktop. But can you hide the application in the dock in the desktop where it is not assigned? That is, the dock in each desktop should show only the app icons that are assigned to that desktop. Possible? Within OS X or via an app?

OS X :: Unknown Item On Desktop - Can't Get Rid
Apr 10, 2010The other day I downloaded some apps off the net as I had to reinstall them as I had to reinstall Snow Leopard. I downloaded the programs and in my Applications folder one of the apps was just an empty space with no name. I knew something was there cause I could click on it, highlight it, and move it. I dragged it to my trash but it ended up on my desktop. Now I can't get rid of it! I can only highlight it, but not move it or right click to delete it! I don't know exactly what it is. Its not causing any problems. Its just bugging me cause its there.

IMac :: Unable To Force Quit - Item Disappeared From Desktop
Jan 27, 2010I'm sure it's not a virus but I'd like to prevent this episode again.
-About 10 minutes ago I inserted my memory stick into my keyboard, and then connected to Cisco.
-I then tried to connect to my school's server and while the progress bar was loading I opened InDesign.
-The Indesign icon started doing it's little jumping thing but nothing was happening. I minimized my browser to look at the progress bar and it was still trying to connect to server. I waited about 2 minutes and when nothing happened I tried a force quit.
-It said that InDesign was not responding so I Force Quit it and nothing happened.
-I then tried to shut down the progress bar but I had that infuriating pinwheel going.
-I decided on a manual shutdown.
-I then turned the computer back on.
-Repeated the same steps except that this time Force Quit said my Safari AND Finder was not responding.
-I Force Quit Finder first. Then Force Quit Connecting to server but all of a sudden my desktop items disappeared as well as my toolbar at the top.
-I tried another manual shutdown because I couldn't call up my Force Quit with my shortcut keys and waited a minute.
-Turned my computer back on but the screen hadn't changed it was as if I had merely put my computer to sleep. I tried this twice.
-Then I turned it off again and this time unplugged my computer and waited a couple seconds.
-I am now on my third try and am afraid to connect to my school's server. I have only opened Safari to type this. I have an assignment due tomorrow!

Apr 8, 2009i just downloaded candybar. after changing some of my dock icons, i decided i didn't like them. so in candybar i clicked "reset dock", which apparently was supposed to reset my dock icons back to normal. now my dock is just missing. i have googled and looked throughout this forum and have tried everything everyone has suggested. i do not have a back up of my mac os x on time machine, so that won't work either. it isn't hiding, it's just NOT there! any help would be greatly appreciated. if nothing works, do you suggest going to the apple store i bought

Nov 3, 2008I open iTunes and it shows the blue dot under the itunes icon in the dock which mean its open. I see the top bar with itunes on it but my main window i can not see. I have checked everything. And also when i do Expose to see all my windows i see itunes main windows that i need. When I click on it it doesnt show that window. How can i get it were i can see it?

Apr 24, 2009I just purchased a MBP (prev gen) about a week ago, and I've been noticing something weird in the dock. This usually happens a few minutes after I boot the computer from being completely off, but what seems like an Application quickly shows in my dock and then disappears. It happens in a split second and there's not enough time to see what it is. It just opens and closes. I haven't installed much on this MBP, just Office, Firefox, Visualhub, Mactracker and perian and flip4mac. I have all these Applications installed on my iMac and I have never seen this happen before.

May 8, 2009I am new to the Mac OS world as i only got a mac one week ago. I'm learning lots of new stuff everyday but can't seem to figure out how to make my applications show up at the Guest Account Dock or even at the Applications folder for that matter.
I got Microsoft Office for Mac and it works fine and all on my User account (admin) but i cant make it show up at the applications folder or at the dock so when someone borrows my laptop for some office editing they have to be logged on my account.
Is there a way to customize the applications that show up on Guest Accounts? Ps: Love my macbook air. It makes me never want to touch another PC laptop again.

May 2, 2012I found my dock is gone. When I moved my pointer over the edge of screen where the dock was, the dock does not show up. I went to the Dock preference, it seems that the option "Automatically hidd and show the Dock" is chosen. I turned it off. It shows no difference. And I went to the Dock preference again, the Option is still chosen. And the Mac->Dock-> Turn Hiding Off is not functional. And also the hot key combination. Now I have to went to the lunchpad to see my dock and all my applications. It is really annoying.

MacBook Pro :: 1tb WD Does Not Show Up On The Desktop
Sep 3, 2010So, i bought a used macbook pro (2,2) 15inch 4gb ram, 320gb hd, and it is in GREAT condition, looks brand new. when i saw the laptop, i made sure everything worked, even the usb ports and all is fine.
when i came home, i formatted, and installed Snow Leopard, did ALL the updates before i did anything else. and i just noticed now when i plugged in my 1tb WD Passport it dosnt show up on the desktop, nor the disk utility, however the hard drive light turns on but when i put my hand on the laptop, it dosnt appear to be 'spinning' up.
i tried plugging in USB stick in both USB ports and it works, shows up just fine.
so i dont think it could be the usb ports..
BUT when i plug the same external hard drive on my new i7 imac it shows up.yesterday, i plugged in the same drive into a friends Mac Pro, and had no problems. but i cant seem to figure this out.
