View 16 RepliesThe dictionary app only shows the part of the article that corresponds with the window. Can't scroll down or up. Even in my new i5, which hasn't been altered in any way. Resizing or this solution don't work. (Make sure private browsing is turned off in Safari, and don't delete the cache. You also have to do this every 30 days, which sux.) [URL]

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded Quicksilver. Fantastic program! I'm looking for one similar that offers a quick-launch function and a wide option of search capabilities. For example, I would activate the program by hotkey (like Quicksilver), then search a word/phrase (like "biology," "Africa," "bill of rights," etc.) The program would then give a definition, synonyms, wikipedia entries, about.com entries, etc. based on that term. I know there are widgets that do similar tasks, but not one that is collective/expansive, nor one as quick as an application like Quicksilver.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to link any websites to the Dict app other than Wikipedia? Sometimes I wish I could have it linked to Urban Dictionary and such so that when I look up a word in my Dict app and it happens to be a slang one, I could get a definition off of Urban Dictionary?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThere is a commercial version of the entire downloaded offline Wikipedia for mobile phone OS's called WikiPock available preloaded on an 8Gb Micro SD card
However, I realize Wikipedia is always available in a current version for download. What I'm looking for is a procedure to download it in a readable format onto an SD card myself. I would prefer to have it cross-platform so it could be read on either Win XP or OSX.
Does anyone know of an application to do this or a link to a detailed written procedure?
Since this morning I have been getting strange adverts on facebook and wikipedia. There is usually some text by the adverts that say "adverts not from this site"I downloaded something yesterday from a video streaming site that I have since uninstalled using a wise uninstaller program, but these adverts remain.I use safari but they come up on firefox too.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am just wondering if it would be possible to run a game off of a USB memory stick. The game is approximately 600mb and very old (fallout 2 for mac), and I have very little computer knowledge. I'm used to PCs, but even then I'm no whiz. I absolutely cant install the game to my hard drive, as my flat-mate, who owns the computer is very touchy about me installing things or using memory.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI switched from a pc to a mac recently. I had Remotely Anywhere on my PC, but I can't find a mac alternative. I already looked into alternative like logmein, but these web site are censored in my company. I need a software exactly like Remotely Anywhere. Software is installed on the PC/Mac, just need to install ActiveX in the browser, and you get to remote control your PC/Mac directly from the browser and in SSL encrypted.
I also looked into Apple Remote Desktop, but this won't work, because the port that will try to use (for instance, 5900) will be blocked by firewall company. I need a full HTTP(S) compliant software. If any of you ever uses Remotely Anywhere, you should get the picture.
I was under the impression that you could just put new songs right into this folder and they would show up in iTunes. I added a bunch of music files (correct format of course) to this folder and they don't show up. I still have to use "Add to library" and browse to the actual folder and song for it to show up. What gives?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I'm playing some music from a playlist, and I decide I want to delete it from my entire collection, I can't don't it easily. Deleting it right from the playlist doesn't remove it from my library. I have to go hunt it down in the main "Music" folder which is a pain in the ass, especially with multiple tracks. Is there some way, when looking at a track in a playlist, that I can delete it from my entire library and put it in the Trash?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to burn an .avi file to DVD using iDVD. I've tried every tip on the web including, reducing the encoding quality & reducing the burn speed and de-install and re-install iDVD, but still manage to get the same message 'Encoding Video - There was an error during movie encoding' after having waited an hour for it to encode.I'm using iDVD '08 Vir.7.0.1 on a MacBook (10.5.8) with over 20GB of free space and 1GB of memory. The .avi file is 500mb in size.I've tried saving as a Video_TS folder rather than directly to a DVD, but still get the same error.
View 5 Replies View Relatedup until a few days ago...maybe after 9.0.3 update...on my macbook pro under snow leopard, im certain i could drag files from itunes library or a playlist into the trash.
if i drug the file from the library to the trash, you would here the trash can "eating sound" and it would be gone from the library (one step). if it was from a playlist, it would delete that file from the playlist but not from the library as expected. now, i cant do either. now i have to right click and delete the file/s and then click move to trash.
I work in a cross platform environment (windows/mac) where we typically save common files to a shared network drive. I've found when I save a file directly from excel (as opposed to saving it locally, then copying it over) it created an invisible ._filename file in the same directory. I know it's a property/resource file for the file that I just created, but it's a little confusing for some windows users and just clutters up the share directory. Is there any way to prevent the creation of the ._filename file while still saving directly from excel?
(I'd prefer not to save locally, then move to network drive - it's cleaner for me if I can just save directly) So far, I've found that this only happens with MS Office. I've opened a sql file in textwrangler and komodo, edited it, and saved it to the network and no invisible files are created.
NOTE: this is different the the fix that apple had published regarding not creating DS_Store files - that refers to copying files from the finder to a network drive and I don't have any problems with that.
I freaking hate iTunes. Programs for simple tasks like uploading music onto devices should be efficently coded, not resource hogs that are incredibly unintuitive and needlessly complicated. Why can't we just drag and drop music and videos directly onto our phone like we can with just about every other media player? I already have all of my music organized just as I want it on my computer. Just let me drag the folders I want directly into the iPhone without having to bother with a 100mb download that runs like crap.
There's absolutely no excuse why such a simple function needs such a complicated program. Quote:..................
I have 3 Macs within my family that I would like to upgrade to SL. Sounds like the Family Pack upgrade would be a great purchase.
However, if at some point, I want to reinstall SL on a SL-loaded machine, do I need to reinstall Leopard, to get Snow Leopard to recognize the upgrade?
Or will SL allow installations of SL directly?
Is it possible to upgrade directly from 10.4.11 to 10.6?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am being annoyed, and I'm not sure if/how I can fix it. I have an external hard drive that is pretty much only accessed for backup purposes. However, often times I open a Finder window, or a Save dialog box, and everything is put on hold while the external drive spins up, despite the fact that it's not being used. Now sure, if I'm going to browse the external drive contents, it would need to spin up. But is there a way to keep it from spinning up except when it's being used directly?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have Spaces set up to "switch directly to a space" using command+# For some reason, however, Spaces will only switch directly to Space # No matter what applications I have chosen for Spaces 2, 3, and 4, Spaces will NOT directly switch to them using the shortcut. I can still switch to them manually with command+arrow keys, though. It doesn't matter what application I choose as Space 1... I can directly switch to it. But the other 3 spaces just won't allow me to directly switch. (Yes, there's applications open and active in each of those spaces.) Anybody encounter this or know what's up?

I have a USB disc drive for my mac book air as well as an external hard drive. I'd like to plug the USB disc drive in, insert the music CD and upload my music to my iTunes folder on the hard drive. Unfortunately, the Disc Drive (the MacBook Air Superdrive) only work when I plug it in direct to the MacBook - not through a USB splitter. As the Air only has one USB port, I can't also plug the external hard drive in. How can I get over this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wonder if there is anyway to do the following to make using the windows on my Mac even more easy and simple: I have vmware fusion (recent version) installed on my Mac and viewed under "Unity" so the Windows and Mac apps are all viewed on the Mac desktop. What I want to do is to be able to install windows apps ".exe" that are downloaded under Mac directly on windows with just double clicking on the file that is in the Mac platform while vmware is already launched or not yet. I tried some methods like opening files with "exe" extension directly by vmware but that won't work, I don't know what else to try.
