I have 3 Macs within my family that I would like to upgrade to SL. Sounds like the Family Pack upgrade would be a great purchase.
However, if at some point, I want to reinstall SL on a SL-loaded machine, do I need to reinstall Leopard, to get Snow Leopard to recognize the upgrade?
Or will SL allow installations of SL directly?
I am being annoyed, and I'm not sure if/how I can fix it. I have an external hard drive that is pretty much only accessed for backup purposes. However, often times I open a Finder window, or a Save dialog box, and everything is put on hold while the external drive spins up, despite the fact that it's not being used. Now sure, if I'm going to browse the external drive contents, it would need to spin up. But is there a way to keep it from spinning up except when it's being used directly?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have Spaces set up to "switch directly to a space" using command+# For some reason, however, Spaces will only switch directly to Space # No matter what applications I have chosen for Spaces 2, 3, and 4, Spaces will NOT directly switch to them using the shortcut. I can still switch to them manually with command+arrow keys, though. It doesn't matter what application I choose as Space 1... I can directly switch to it. But the other 3 spaces just won't allow me to directly switch. (Yes, there's applications open and active in each of those spaces.) Anybody encounter this or know what's up?

I have a USB disc drive for my mac book air as well as an external hard drive. I'd like to plug the USB disc drive in, insert the music CD and upload my music to my iTunes folder on the hard drive. Unfortunately, the Disc Drive (the MacBook Air Superdrive) only work when I plug it in direct to the MacBook - not through a USB splitter. As the Air only has one USB port, I can't also plug the external hard drive in. How can I get over this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wonder if there is anyway to do the following to make using the windows on my Mac even more easy and simple: I have vmware fusion (recent version) installed on my Mac and viewed under "Unity" so the Windows and Mac apps are all viewed on the Mac desktop. What I want to do is to be able to install windows apps ".exe" that are downloaded under Mac directly on windows with just double clicking on the file that is in the Mac platform while vmware is already launched or not yet. I tried some methods like opening files with "exe" extension directly by vmware but that won't work, I don't know what else to try.

I know that the service is comcast and the modem is an Arris. It wont detect an IP automatically, I have tried to enter the info manually and it says ethernet is connected with the ip blah blah blah....but it wont connect to the internet or anything. Anyone have any ideas??

I had a demo version of djay 4 installed and today I decided to buy it from the AppStore. Before I clicked buy I moved the demo version to the trash, but didn't emptied it. I bought the app and it downloaded than installed. Immediatly after the progress bar was full the icon disappeared (launch pad). It's not even in the program folder nor can be found by spotlight (even if searching whole mac).
I tried deleting the cache of the AppStore, reverting the demo of djay 4 from time machine so it can be replaced by the AppStore file. I tried renaming the settings folder of djay and also restarted the Macbook, nothing helps. Sometimes the App Store says that djay 4.0.5 is already installed when it's clearly not, but what instance is telling that it would be?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhether it is possible have a harddisk installed with Windows (say, Windows 7 or XP) and use it to boot directly on a Mac? That means, a single external removable harddisk installed with Windows which can be booted on both PC and a Mac. Is it possible to simply take a Windows installed harddrive and boot it on the Mac? And after using it on the Mac, the same Windows harddrive can be booted on a PC again?
I do understand that Parallels has Transporter, but what I do know is that it is some sort of "migration". Once "migrated", the Windows cannot be booted on a PC again. Am I right? (So, this solution won't work.) My scenario is that I use a Mac at home, but I need to boot into Windows to do some office work (of course, using my Mac). This Windows on an external harddrive must also be bootable on a PC whenever I bring to work in my office.
I am just wondering if it would be possible to run a game off of a USB memory stick. The game is approximately 600mb and very old (fallout 2 for mac), and I have very little computer knowledge. I'm used to PCs, but even then I'm no whiz. I absolutely cant install the game to my hard drive, as my flat-mate, who owns the computer is very touchy about me installing things or using memory.
