App Store :: USB Backup Drive Is Signalling A Update From It?
Jun 17, 2012
I use Carbon Copy Cloner to run a scheduled task of backing up my hard drive to a 1TB USB backup drive When my USB backup drive is plugged into my MAC the App store says that I have 1 update (Pixelmator) - (which by the way is fully updated...) When I unplug the drive from my MAC the update goes away (and comes back when I plug the drive in again) ?

When I eventually upgrade to Snow Leopard, I'd ideally like to do a fresh install (I did Tiger>Leopard as an upgrade install), but I really don't want to have to go through the hassle of reinstalling all my apps afterwards. So, would the following work as a best-of-both-worlds alternative?
1. Update my backup bootable system drive image on my external FW drive 2. Wipe the drive in my MBP and do a fresh install of SL 3. Use the Migration Assistant to automagically copy all my data and apps over from the backup drive as if I was upgrading from an old Mac to a new one
On paper at least, it looks like it ought to "just work"... but I'm wondering whether or not Migration Assistant will work between a Mac and an external drive, or does it have to be between two actual Macs?
After I upgraded to Yosemite, my MAC Time Machine backup drive is no longer recognized and the process freezes when I try to re-install the drive from the drive's software.
A: an old macbook (the white one) B: a modern macbook pro (retina) C: another modern macbook pro (TBD)
I am giving away B now; I expect to get C in 2 months time; I keep A with me all the time.
The goal is to migrate all of the data from B to C. I have Time Machine backups of B.
Since the transition is a long time (2 months), I need to keep working on my data during this period. For this I will use A. This will generate new files, modify old ones, ...
Since A's HDD is much smaller than B's backup, I can move only part of them.
By the way, I have totally erased A and used migration assistant to restore part of my old data from B. So, when I use A now, I do it with my same account as in B (and the same I will use in C).
How do I manage my backups in such a way that, when I will get C, I can safely move all of the data I had in B plus all of the changes and modifications that I have done during the 2 month transition?
Can I just continue to use Time Machine (on A) to update the old backups? I am afraid that some mess could be created because the computers are different (before the backups were taken on B, while now on A), even the present data are different (because now A only contains a subset of the original B data, which I do NOT want to lose), the good point is that the user is the same.
I bought a used mac mini and I was viewng the App Store and wanted to purchase IPhoto app but it was purchase previously and could not update because not associated with my Apple ID. The error message reads I would need to purchase it again My issue I have it the icon for the application just give me a the options to "update" and not purchase. What do I need to do to purchase this app?
Error "The file “DMAccount.h” couldn’t be saved in the folder “Headers”" after 10.7.3 update. While app update download starts normaly the error msg pops up every time right at the end of download process and it starts all over (dnld-error-dnld-error... ("Try again", she asks me)).
My Softward Update and App Store repeatedly "crash unexpectedly" (along with Dashboard, Finder and a whole host of other applications).
I have tried everything but it seems there is no way I can use either of them.
As a result, I haven't been able to update anything for months and my OSX is now thoroughly screwed up.
Is there any way I can update OSX without using Softward Update or App Store? Is there an update file I can download without having to go through them?
I'd prefer not to resort to OSX Restore as I don't want have my Microsoft Office product key.

Is there a way to make a backup of your Time Machine backup on a 2nd hard drive? I want to be doubly sure that my data is backed up!Right now I get an error saying that the second hard drive isn't authorized to copy my Time Machine data from the original hard drive I have set up as my Time Machine.
I have a problem. My Mac app store notifies me that I have to update an app which I don't have. I never had bought this application, but I do get the update?Does anyone have a soluiton for me?

I have an external 1TB WD My Passport drive which I use for TM backup's. When I plug in via USB, DriveUnlock appears. I unlock the drive, then instigate a TM backup. All goes fine, then from what I can gather, when the TM backup has finished, the drive ejects itself. There is no error messages, unmount drive issues, it just dissappears from finder. I can only assume the backup has been successful, as no error messages appear, meaning the drive wasn't ejected while backup was in progress. I have changed the USB cable, as well as tried different ports, but the same always happens. In System Preferencies/Energy Saver, I have made sure the Put HD to sleep is un ticked. Still it happens. Has anyone else had this problem, and is it fixable? I would love to keep the drive attached and backing up for the period I am working, usually 12 hours a day, rather than the once a day at the moment.

Mac App Store says that I didn't use my account to purchase FCPX, but I only have the one account. Now it won't let me update it.When I look at my purchased history, it lists all the apps I've bought, but it has an "Install" next to FCPX. However, it is installed. In fact I've been using it quite recently. However, when I click on the "Install" button, it gives me a message: We could not complete your purchase. Fincal Cut is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updated. When I do that, it says everything is up to date! How can I correct this? I'm on a MacBook Pro 2.3 i7 running 10.7.2.
So I have this game I'm trying to update... When I click the update buttin it ask's for my age since it is GTAIII... when I click ok.. the update turns gray as if its about to update then goes back to dark gray and nothing happens.
I can not update or install new apps. Some work though, some do not. For example I can update GarageBand and UberStrikeHD(2 random apps that I have an update available for) and I can not update LevelHelper and Trillian(also just 2 random apps I have an update available for).As for new apps ... Well, all that I tried they didn't download(ReadLater, CodeCollectorPro and RamOptimizer Lite, Apple Configurator are 4 of the apps I tried downloading). I get to enter my password, the app "goes" into the Launchpad, but the bar that should show the progress of the download gets filled instantly and the Appstore shows "Installed" instantly, while the Launchpad icon also shows the bar full instantly, but the app is obviously still greyed out since it didn't really download anything. Then after a few seconds I get an error:"The application could not be downloaded. The requested URL was not found on this server". Cancel or Retry, retrying doesn't work either.
I am using a broadband internet connection, but I tried it with several USB devices and I got the same result (also tried sharing the broadband connection from a macmini and connect to it through internet sharing, still didnt work)... And I do not have 10.7.3 installed, since it is a 2GB update and my broadband data plan is capped at 4GB, but I doubt it will fix anything, since in the past I got this error before, but I have no idea how it got fixed. I also tried every Apple provided support article.
Console log shows 3 errors, as follows:

The Mac App Store tells me there's an update available for one of my applications, however, the install button is disabled and indicates that the new version of the app is already installed. The version number of the app (About...) shows v120...., the update in the App Store shows v121, so there's something available, it seems. How can i either download the update, or get rid of the update indication in the App Store?

This morning I start up the Mac App Store and see there are 2 updates available. One for an application I know I have, the other for an application I do not have installed on my system. Clicking "Update All" spins and does nothing. It looks to be attempting to download the update for the application I do have. When I manually click on the application I do not, to see what is going on a App Store login comes up with the "Enter the Apple ID you've used to purchase this app." I have seen another post saying this is due to installing non authorized Mac App Store applications then how can i know which app is connected with this update? It has this update for this application, not installed, never was and will not either go away or process the real update. I have restarted, cleared out the cache. OS X 10.7.2
I'm running OS X 10.6 on mid 2010 MBP. Got bullseye notice to update a game app the other day, but update requires OS X 7 so I can't update. I've still got the irritating bullseye however. I deleted the app (didn't play it much anyway) but I've still got the notice.
The App Store tells me that there is an update for Amadeus Pro - and, sure enough, there is. But when I try to install the update, by clicking on the Update button, it doesn't begin downloading.I haven't moved the app or anything - it just won't download. Is there a manual way to update?
I have a 500GB HD in my mini.I have a 2TB drive with about 1TB of files on it. Can I use some of the free space for backup and still use the rest for files?
I get the error, The application could not be downloaded. The installation could not be started. However, my internet connection is fine. I tried deleting my safari, iTunes and app store caches to no effect.
Ok we all love apps but every single day, I'm faced with updating at least two of my apps when I turn on my phone, then same thing all over again on my IPad , ohALANd wait there are 6 more on my desktop..can they not just automatically update and sync across all devices?
I just bought a MacBook Pro and for some reason there is an update available for angry birds. When i try to update it tells me i have to log on to an account that is not mine. Even crazier, I've never in my life saw that Apple ID before and i only logged on with my own ID on my brand new Mac. I know it's a small thing but it is annoying.
since updating to the new security requirements I cannot update my existing apps...i receive the cannot connect to the iTunes store note. However, I can use the store app to search, select, connect to the store and download new apps.
I recently purchased a Macbook Air 11" (July 2011 model) which came preinstalled with Lion (can't remember the version) and iLife 11.
On my first boot I noticed that the Mac App Store popped up a few updates and one of the updates was iPhoto 9.2.3. When I attempted to install the update, I was prompted to first update my Mac OS as the update was not applicable to my (then) Mac OS version.
I promptly updated my Lion version to 10.7.3 through Software Updates and attempted the iPhoto update again - nada! Mac App Store now says: "This update is not available", "You Must have previously purchased this item ..." and then prompts me to 'buy' the item (iPhoto 11?).
I haven't clicked on the 'buy' button in the fear of being charged to my linked Apple ID account and I am wondering why I am supposed to buy iPhoto when my MBA came preinstalled with iLife 11.
