Feb 14, 2009I have just had occasion to restore the disc containing my XP operating system (yes, I am a PC person too). iTunes Library is stored on a big FireWire box, and was not restored.
The date of my last XP backup was 19/1/09, and iTunes Library knew of nothing I had done since that date, in other words, the song tracks are kept in the iTunes directory, but the library clearly isn't. This is really strange. All the tracks I had added were there in the iTunes library physical directories, but their importing into the library had disappeared. As had some Smart Playlists.
So where is the library actually stored? I note that there are some odds and ends of unrecognizable stuff along with the executable in the XP Programs... directory, presumably this stuff includes the library?
Just to clarify. The executable is on my C drive in the default location, and the iTunes library is on H:iTunes.

Oct 2, 2010i have a problem with i tunes, i'm trying to make a ring tone for my iphone from an existing file in my library. to do that i need to press "create an acc version" from the "advanced" tab amongst other procedures but the problem is that the aforementioned option is grey, meaning it can not be pressed, i have a similar problem where a simple thing as copy/paste can't be done on the computer because that to is grey and their fore i just cant press it.

Dec 10, 2009I have been using a mac for about a year and overall am happy with it. When using a PC in the past, I would organize my pictures in file folders by year and then by month. My husband backs up our pictures on an external hard drive (I don't use time machine) and we're finding the way iPhoto stores the pictures to be "messy" since it does it according to import date rather than file date.
I know that if I go to the original file in my library and move stuff around (in order to "clean it up") that iPhoto cannot find the pictures anymore and takes me to where it originally was. I did a test run on about 3 pictures.
Is there a way to change the way iPhoto organizes the actual files? Or am I going to just have to clean the folders up once they are on the external hard drive?

Also, how do I know what I have stored, can I eliminate it from iCloud when I choose, is it available for download. I really don't understand the whole concept. When attempting to sign in and use iCloud, I was given only a couple Apple apps to use for document upload. They were apps such as Pages, Preview, etc..
Is this not an external storage and backup resource?

Mar 29, 2008I reinstalled OSX (leopard) completely fresh, I have multiple Time Machine backups, and I do not want to restore my entire machine, I just want to pull out the files needed for iTunes to detect my iPhone(backups, and settings so the machine knows it can be connected to this machine) as being connected to the correct machine and not sync'd to another machine. I know how to browse the time machine backups I just need to know what files contain the preferences/logs/plist or whatever settings files that are needed to be replaced on my newly installed system.

Feb 15, 2012Had everything conolsodated on an external drive which crashed. I have it stored on another system so I can easily get a new drive and put it on there. My questions are: I have around 200gbs of music, the extensions or whatnot are on the iMac drive, but the bulk of the music itself was on the crashed drive. I'd like to clean up the huge selection of songs when I copy to the new drive. So say I copy half of it to the new drive...obviously all the extra extensions and whatnot will still be on the iTunes on iMac.
Is there an easy way around this, meaning to get all the extra/old itunes extensions out of iTunes without wiping iTunes completely? Or will I have to manually delete all unwanted extensions and so forth? Also, maybe 100 sings were purchased through the iTunes Store (the rest was from years of CD collecting), those were on the crashed drive as well. I think I can, but want to double check...am I able to redownloaded those directly from the iTunes store? All software and such are up to date running Snow Leopard.

Feb 22, 2012I have two Macs, and on one I went through the arduous task of labelling a bunch of CD-R's I made ages ago in Itunes, and now I want to import those discs via different encoding into another computer, but don't want to have to re-enter all that info. When I put the discs into the original machine, the info is still assigned to the disc. I want to migrate that info to the other machine so I won't have to re-enter this stuff. I feel like I found this data at one point ages ago, but now I can't.

Aug 28, 2014I had deleted my files from iTunes media folder, but as luckily I had the same files located in other place I just copied them to the iTunes Media but iTunes rejects to play them (in my iTunes Library). I'm only able to play them if I go through the procedure as followings: Play - "iTunes unable to open this file because the original file not found. Do you want to find it?" (or smith like that) - Find - Open and then it plays, but I have to perform these actions with every file separately and I have quite a lot of them. Oh, and after that first popping-up window the next one appears "Would you like iTunes to find other missing files from the same location as [the file's name]?" But when I click on "Find" it says "iTunes were unable to find other missing files". Why? How do I accomplish the same task but with all my albums at once without necessity to add them one by one? Does there some way exists to tie the tracks from my albums with original files without importing them to my iTunes library?

Jun 9, 2012My MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8) was going slow. I decided to reinstall OSX. All my data was backed up to my compatible external HD. I then erased my MacBook HD, and reinstalled OSX off the install disc and bundled applications disc. I went through the steps to set up the administrator account, and did all the other things in the instal process. I then did all necessary software updates. When all that was complete, I connected my external HS and opened migration assistant, and imported all the data from the latest backup. I now find that all my backed up data from before is under a different user account - named as in the old OSX set up. How do I populate my newly installed iTunes and iPhoto with the imported data stored under the 'old' username? Shouldn't this have happened automatically?

May 12, 2012For a variety of reasons I want to make the Users' Library visible. The main reason is that I want to Import the Safari bookmarks into Opera. I can't do that because the Users' Library is invisible.
If I enter Safari into Spotlight I can find the folder okay but that is useless for my purpose. It's okay if I want to transfer Bookmarks to a new computer or external drive but not for importing the Safari bookmarks to Opera.
It used to be visible, I don't know why, it just appeared out of the ether. Since I have updated the OS it has vanished again. Never could understand why the folder was made invisible anyway.
