I get this pop up message when I try to access my iTune app and then when I click (ok)Â I get another pop up that says I have an error (-45054) and it closes completely unable to access my iTune files.

I cannot believe I am actually in this position, but I accidentally reformatted my lacie 1TB external HD. The files were not overwritten as it was the most basic and quick format option, but they are not accessible.
Can anyone recommend a good data recovery app that works for OS X?
Anyone know what the best course of action would be?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
My Finder "quits" or "restarts" when I try to access any file other than a single file that is on the Desktop.
WANT: To repair the operation of the finder so I have access to all my files.
SYSTEM: I am currently running OS 10.5.8 on an older Macbook, with a 325 GB HD. (Note: I started having this trouble on OS 10.5.7 but upgraded to 10.5.8 but the problem still persisted.)
SYMPTOMS:
1. Most of the time when I access my files on the file called Dons MacBook all the file information shown on the Desktop will disappear and then reappear in a second similar to when you are starting the OS. The Finder itself, with all the files listed, will not appear
2. However, sometimes the Finder WILL appear and when all the files are shown and i click on any file or folder the "busy" circle will appear for a time and then the Desktop will "quit" or "reset" again as describe above.
3. I ran Disk Doctor from my start up disk. The disk needed no repairs. When I went to "Verify Disk Premissions" I received the following: "Error: No valid packages."
4. Forum research told me that I needed a "Basesystem.pkg" installed in my Library file but even if I found one on the net or my original OS CD I do not have access to my Library folder because when I try to access it in the Finder, if the Finder actually appears, it "resets" as described above.
5. All the programs on my Dock will start and operate normally. These programs "go get" stored files and run them normally. From that I know that the "resetting" of the Finder does not mean that I am losing programs or they are being erased. (I can only run programs on the Dock because they are not accessible in the Finder as all other files.)
6. I can access the finder information when I am trying to Save a file. The Finder window that appears for me to search for a place to put a document works okay.
7. I can download email attachments (pdf) documents, for example, to the Desktop one at a time but if I put them in a common file on the Desktop, when I call up the common file, the Finder window starts but "resets" as noted above.
8. If I have a file on a CD when the Finder comes up to list the files in the CD, it "resets" as described above.

I recently upgraded my pc to vista. When i was using xp, my macbook (running leopard) picked up my shared folders on my home network just fine, and several other wireless networks... now despite having the shared folders in vista set up and the network configured... leopard is showing nothing....its as if there's no network there.
the internet runs fine (on the network) but it won't access my shared files.. so there are no network problems, its a software issue either with vista or leopard... what am i doing wrong?
Before I was able to access files in my drop box on my desktop from my macbook. Now i can't sing on at all....I didnt do anything different and didnt adjust any firewall settings or anything like that...anyone know wtf is up wit dat??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm connecting my new Macbook Pro 15" running Snow Leopard, to my home network and of course it hooked up with my wireless router right away.
I have a NAS hard wired to a wireless router. The Mac sees all the folders and files just fine and can read/write.I have a Vista Home Premium PC hard wired to the same wireless router. The Users Folder is shared with full privileges as are the individual users folders. The firewall is off. It runs no "security software".
The Mac can see the Vista PC and also see the Users individual account folders but when I open them I can't see any of the files.I really don't know what direction to go. The Vista PC networked fine with an older Toshiba laptop that the Mac replaced.
My girlfriend changed the user's name and the problems started (iMac wouldn't remeber system settings and denied access to some files and catalogs). When I wanted to fix the problem I probably made a mistake and changed the access settings of some files (finally even hard disk's settings). After this action my iMac doesn't start (the screen is white with the apple logo and nothing happens). Is there anybody who knows what to do now?

I'm connected to an Airport Extreme. iTunes and Safari can't connect to the internet, but Firefox can.
Also, Firefox can connect to local network stuff (e.g. AirSharing iPhone app), but I can't through Safari or Finder's "Connect to server..."
I'm having problems accessing my music in iTunes. I've been into preferences and pointed to the folder where the music is stored, (it's stored on a separate hard drive) but without success. I've copied the songs back to the original folder, but that doesn't work. Been on other forums and on the net but no progress.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have used an iBook G4 for a year and a half I only use wireless Internet connections. I recently started getting error messages when I tried to perform a Software Update. The error reads: "Software Update can't connect to the update server. Make sure you're connected to the Internet, then try again. Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem."
Perhaps at the same time (I hadn't paid too much attention at first) I found that I was unable to connect to the iTunes Store. This error message read: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was refused. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again." A google search shows that the second error message is common among PC users who think apple is conspiring to keep them out of the iTunes store with iTunes v7.1.1. I don't know about network settings but I don't make a point of ever fiddling with them. I assume both of these problems are symptoms of the same network mess-up. Can anyone steer me clear?
I am unable to access the iTunes Store on my Macbook. I open iTunes and try to go to the iTunes Store. All that is there is a blank screen. When I try to search for something, it stays on the blank screen. I have completely updated the iTunes software and am still experiencing the same issues.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new MBP. I have a 1tb external drive with 250gb's of music. I have it attached to my mac via USB. I CANNOT GET ITUNES TO CREATE A NEW LIBRARY ON THE EXTERNAL DRIVE. I CANNOT DRAG AND DROP OR ADD FILE/FOLDER.
But get this, I hook it up to my old Dell and I can do whatever I want. I am friggin pissed that I spent all this money on Mac equip and can't get it going. You may have seen my other post where I posed my issue of: 1tb ethernet drive hooked to airport extreme. Above mentioned 1tb hooked up to back of it via usb. I am completely unable to copy, move, or add files using my mac. But guess what. my pc handles it easily and quickly.
I have a Lacie external hard disk that was originally formatted for PCs. I have some files there, but more importantly, my iTunes library is saved directly on the Lacie (I have everything on apple lossless, so they are some big files). I will keep using this PC while connected to the Lacie hard disk to syncro my iPod.
The problem is that I bought a mac now and I wanted the Lacie hard disk to be able to transfer files from mac to pc and vice versa. I have already read that I would have to copy the files that are on the Lacie, reformat the Lacie and then paste the files back. My only doubt is that if I do this reformatting, will I have any problems using the iTunes library while connected to my pc and iPod?
I just ask that because every time I changed any iTunes library folder on the computer, the iTunes would say that the music file couldn�t be found and ask me if I wanted to look for the file. I didn�t want to reformat the Lacie to later find out that I would have to �look for� every single music file, because that would be nearly impossible. I don�t know if I was able to make my question really clear�
I have an 08 Mac Pro with a stock apple raid card. 4 2TB WD Green drives make up the raid and I use it for my iTunes library and Aperture Library. I use the extra sata port for my 1 TB Hitachi boot drive which is the one I purchased my Mac Pro with. I have had this setup for nearly if not over a year with no trouble until the past week and a half. The raid utility shows that everything is fine. The battery is good, the raid partition is good, and even when I click through the individual drives in their respective bays it says SMART Verified Status Good. My trouble is this. Anytime I play a song or a tv show, or access files even without using iTunes the computer freezes. I can't click on anything, there is no spinning wheel and I have to manually restart it. When I do restart it the raid volume does not show up in the finder. But when I go to verify disk or repair disk in the disk utility it shows everything is fine. I have to rebuild the volume with diskwarrior and when I use any file off of the volume it freezes. I've replaced the drives and that hasn't helped. So I'm at a loss here.

Started when the usb connection failed. Firstly I could see the folders in finder but could not open them, now I can't see the folders. I tried opening photos from phtoshop and though I could see and select them, it crashed when I tried to open them. When reimporting CDs it asks if I want to replace existing files? I bought a Seagate Free Agent Go Flex External drive. I transferred all my files from my previous external HD. When I went to access my folders on my external HD, the folders are all locked, with Sharing and Permission section in the Information "Everyone: Read" only! I can't change any of the information or move things! All of them are locked and "read only." I know how to change it, but only manually, individually. I have several hundreds of folders and I don't want to manually change all of them to "Read & Write." Is their a way to let me re-set the folders to "Read & Write" easily??

- Dragging the mp3 file into the iTunes window and the iTunes Dock icon

I recently decided to sync my entire iTunes Library to my iPod instead of managing it all manually. I use the option "Convert higher bit rate songs to 256 kbps AAC", since most of my library consists of CD rips. At the end of each sync, I receive the following message:
"iTunes could not copy "Stage Start" to the iPod because the file could not be converted"
I took a look at the tracks in question, and couldn't find any good reason that they would not convert. They are ALAC files that I ripped from CD, and there are other tracks on the same album that converted with no problems. As a test, I changed the Import Settings to AAC@256kbps, right-clicked on the file and chose "Create AAC version", but received this message.
I'm not sure why it would say the file format is not valid, when it is lossless like all the rest and plays fine. I checked the file(s) in Finder and it has the .m4a extension like all the rest. The only thing different I noticed is that the album art thumbnail doesn't show up for these particular tracks.
I got my first Mac last Sunday (woo!) but I was using it last night and a battery warning came up. I had been using the MBP, then turned it off and went out with battery still remaining. When I came back again a few hours later I used the Mac and after about 10 mins closed the lid for some reason. When I opened it back up it wouldn't start unless I plugged in the power outlet - the thing had completely drained. Then I checked the battery and it says to 'Service Battery'. It's now holding a charge as normal as far as I can see but the warning is still there.
A couple of other things I notice too:
- When I tilt the MBP to the right sometimes a scraping noise comes from the inside - maybe from a fan?
- When I pick it up from the bottom, the bottom of the Mac dips inwards slightly and there is a click as it makes contact with something on the inside of the case.
Are these things normal? I've made a Genius Bar reservation but I think I might just swap it for a new one.
I want it to either
Conserve disk space and confine the size of Trash to a certain percentage of the total hard disk space and automatically delete old files to meet that limit; or
Automatically delete files that has been sent to trash for a certain period of time.
Can I do that in Mac OS X?
I ran the windows migration assistant from my old lap top and transferred everything to my new imac and it said it has completed successfully. I was hoping to open itunes and find all my files in there but no avail.

A few days ago, I tried to open iTunes, and I got an error message that iTunes could not open because of error 13024. I tried to open skype, and I had an error message that it couldn't open as well. Â
Confused, I decided to restart the computer. When I got to the login screen, I entered my password and hit enter. The login wondow closed, but the login screen (the purple space picture) remained. I waited and waited, but it still remained. The cursor wasn't showing that the mac was working on it. Â
Frustrated after trying and retrying to restart the computer and login with no success, I started pushing random buttons dejectedly on the keyboard. When I hit the play/pause button, and iTunes started opening. The same errror message came up, but with it came the top iTunes bar, complete with the little apple symbol in the top right hand corner. Â
With that, I was able to open firefox, pages, and other recent items. But I can't open finder, and the dock is still gone. Â
Other issues that have come with this: history items don't save on firefox, copy & paste doesn't work for any programs, i can't sage changes I've made to existing pages documents. Â
I should note that my startup disk is full. I was in the miiddle of finding files I didn't need to delete when this all happened. I've tried deleting files through the "open..." function in pages, with no luck. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the issue. Â
