ITunes :: Snap To Point On Scrollbar
Mar 21, 2012
As of iTunes 10, I have noticed my scrollbar no longer snaps to the point I click on. I have to drag the indicator to the point I am looking for. I'm refering to my music catalogue and in the view as "album list" and sorted by artist. Anyone else have this issue? I really liked being able to snap to a point when looking for artists and radio station links.

Apparently Apple has decided TextEdit does not need a permanent scrollbar, and that users won't mind going through two steps to make it appear temporarily.
I hate this and now will need to download a different simple text-editing program. A scrollbar is necessary for text writing. Shame on Apple.

Ok, I know it's not the end of the world. Everything's running like a charm.
BUT.
I opened up safari this morning and went to my favourite ****website, where's there's a lot of scrolling going on, and my attention was grabbed by the horizontal scrollbar. One of my favourite scrollbars.
It looked odd and maybe a little sick... I couldn't quite see what the problem was.
But then I saw the problem.
It looks like a weak rippoff of the vertical bar! (see picture below)
Did I fail to see this when peaking into the world wide webtionary?
Did I? And for how long have I been missing this 'error'. Since the last upgrade? Or even longer?

Strange things happening with the progress bar when playing mp3 files in iTunes (v 10.6.1 (7)) on MacBook Pro with 10.6.8. The great majority of the tracks I've added since Feb 28th have the following problem: They play fine all the way through the whole track, but if I try to move the progress bar position to somewhere near the end, it will only go to a certain point. For example, I have a track that is 7:39 long. If I click the progress bar to 0:15, it goes to 0:15. If I click to 0:45, it goes to 0:45. But If I click to 1:15, it goes to 0:55. In fact, If I click anywhere after 0:55, it will go to 0:55 and play from there. i cannot skip to anywhere beyond 0:55. If I play from the beginning, and use the fastforward button instead, I can FF until 0:55, and then it hits a wall and won't go beyond. As soon as I let go, it will continue onwards past 0:55 to the end. This is happening on a variety of tracks from completely different sources.
Some points:
- All the tracks that have this problem in iTunes do not have this problem on my Touch. I can jump around just fine there.
- The time to which it jumps is different for each track, and can be anywhere in the song.
- None of the tracks imported before 2/28/12 have this trouble, that I've found
- Happens to VBR and CBR equally, and bit rate is not a factor
- Track length is not a factor
- Start and end times in the options are set to 0 and track end time.
- The few tracks that do let me scroll to anywhere say "Encoded with: iTunes 10.x.x"
BUT, some that are encoded with iTunes are also not letting me skip around. Still, this might be something? A problem with LAME encoding?

it's a replaced hard drive in my old iMac, but I'm setting it up as new to keep it as trim as possible. Pre-replacement I had my iTunes Media library set up on an external hard drive; the iTunes folder and it's inhabitants (Extras, Genius, Library.itl, etc) all resided on the iMac in the Music folder, but I'd moved the Media over to the external drive.
What's the method for telling my 'new' copy of iTunes that I already have a media library, and it's 'over there' on the external drive? I know iTunes can be funny about this sort of thing so I don't want to get it wrong! I considered changing the location using the Preferences, but I wasn't sure if that was going to wipe out anything. Also, given that I do have a complete backup of the original iMac drive (I just don't want to clone it back to the new one, junk and all), is there any way of doing this in such a way that I can preserve the playlists, play counts, etc? Can I copy over old preferences or library files?

Just out of the box last night. Starts up and the hard drive 500GB is making tons of noise. Sounds like the arm is smacking back and forth, grinding sounds, and electronic like sounds. After twenty minutes or so it died down. I rebooted. The entire time Spotlight was indexing it was loud and noisy. Once completed it was nice and quiet again. I moved some things around and it got noisy, at that point I just went to bed. This afternoon I ran all the updates, it went back to noisy all over again. In my opinion the HDD is most likely no good, or will be no good sometime soon. I've got an Apple Store about 10 minutes away, is this worth making an appointment or will they just give me 'it boots and runs, what can we do until it dies'?

wondering if there is an app, or a way, or using something similar to Aero Snap in Windows 7 on Snow Leopard? It's a feature of 7 I really like, I use it constantly. Other than writing some Applescript, can anyone think of something that lets me do it?

I was wondering if there were any apps/hacks out there that *I can't believe I'm saying this* give similar "window Snapping" functionality that Windows 7 offers?

It came with a carrying case, but I want a little more protection, like a snap on case? My cousin has a MacBook Pro and has one. And I want one exactly like it! But I haven't been able to find a similar one for my PowerBook If you don't know what I'm talking about, look here: [URL:...]Something along those lines. I've been looking for one for awhile but I can't seem to find one.

With OS X, I always find it annoying that windows can still me moved when maximized. I don't see the point of this since 99% of the problem this causes is that my windows are offset by 2-5 pixels (which I then have to zoom, then re-zoom to maximize the window again). Why can't we have snapping to window edges? Many programs already do this, and they don't detract from the design purity of OS X (unlike Windows 7 which does this over the top and fugly screen edge animation). A slight nudge when your window hits 2-4pxs off the side of the screen would suffice. A center line should exist too, since I find myself using my screen very much so half and half - it is very annoying to get the windows to be half and half equally.

My RAM I ordered for my iBook 1.42ghz came in today. I'm trying to install it, but I can't seem to get the brackets to snap. I can get it in so it feels pretty secure, but only the bracket on the left side (when viewing from the USB-port side of the iBook) is clicking in place.

My ibook G4 (running leopard) has a battery that seems to drop from around 75% to the computer shutting down completely (ncluding loss of prefered wifi network) in literally the blink of an eye, with no warning. I have calibrated it. I tried running coconut battery to see its vitals and the program tells me crazy things like it can charge to 12666mAh which we all know is impossible. Any ideas at all? The apple info says it has around 206 cycles on it total. Do I need to just cough up and buy a new battery? I'm hoping not as I just got the computer used through the marketplace and the guy before said he was getting 2-3 hours still.

One is called "SizeUp" and I've been using it for a few days now. Very useful program, especially if you find yourself wanting to quickly compare two webpages side by side. It uses keyboard shortcuts although you can also select it from the menu bar.

Does anyone know of any 3rd party add-ons for OS X that allow you to 'snap' or align any on-screen window to the other windows? I'm looking for a system-wide add-on so I can use this feature across all my apps, collectively aligning their window edges together to try and keep things tidy.

Lately I've noticed a loud popping noise when I adjust the tilt angle on my screen. The noise comes from the right side of the screen and is very loud. This happens when the screen angle has been stationary for a few minutes. I went to the Apple Store today and the genius told me it was normal.

I confess, Windows 7 is a good OS, even though 90% of its "features" you could find hidden in either WinXP or Vista, but the usability feature for me that fits in this 10% "new features" category was definitely Aero Snap and up to date there was no 1:1 Mac solution. Now I was extatic to download that handy Cinch tool fro And yes, in my opinion it looks even more elegant and feels more natural on Mac OS X than Windows but that is my highly biased opinion.

My 13" MacBook Pro (Mid 2011) is making a loud click, or snapping noise whenever the clamshell is closed, or moved a little sometimes. It's becoming very persistant and doesn't seem normal. Most of the time it does make the noise (which is from the back right). I'm taking it in tomorrow under warranty. Any suggestions? Is this normal? The screen also moves smoothly and is always in place. It's all strange and hopefully they can replace the hinge.

I've been using my macbook for a few months right now, and primarily use it for recording me and my band-mates on Logic express, but now, I've not been able to use my iSight on my mac. I don't know what's wrong with it, because I've always been able to take photos with friends in Photo Booth and take movies with it as well. Up till now that is. A few days ago I tried to open up Photo Booth and snap a picture, but all I got was a blank screen. The program would count down, but the screen would just be white instead of showing what it would take. The little green light next to it would go on as well, but it wouldn't take a picture, and nothing is blocking the screen either.

I have an external drive image on my desktop. when i highlight it and press the eject key for 1 second, it doesn't do anything. however i can drag it to the trash and it'll eject. This occurs for usb or anything that mounts. So what's the point of having a dedicated key then if it doesn't work for anything else besides disks?

I've got a Mac Pro that stops recognizing my BD-ROM drive after it goes to sleep. I've been trying to reset the PRAM and NVRAM, per applecare's suggestion, but everytime I plug my Mac Pro in, it automatically starts up. I've turned off the "automatically restart" option in System Preferences, but it's as if all of that is stuck! So, I'm trying to reset the firmware using the firmware restoration CD, but when I hold down the "power" button, the computer's LED light flashes much more than three times, the computer gives a non-chime beep, then gives the chime, and then starts up using the Macintosh HD like I'm not holding down the power button. Is there another way to get to the point where I can use the firmware restortaion CD? It's driving me crazy. I thought it was because I was plugged into an Uninteruptable Power Supply, but I plugged it into a normal power strip and there was no change.
