My UPS is flaking out, and it's a really old one I got from work that was a 'server' class UPS.
I don't want to drop $999 on the thing, as that's what an equivalent of what I was using go for. However I want my battery to last more than oh, 30s so I hope to size it right.
Any experience from anyone running a UPS on one of these things? The UPS sites aren't much help and if the tech specs are to believed if it draws 12A at 120W that's a 1440W requirement for the power supply, and that seems a tiny bit high to me, but I might be wrong.
I'm running the 2.66GHz dual core, the ATI1900XL, and 4 500GB drives in it.
I have just purchased a Power Mac Model # M8570. I have tried to do the research but I can't find that model number???? It has the mirrored doors and 1 Fire Wire 800 with the 2 Fire Wire 400's. 1 GhZ processor and 80 Gig Seagate HD.
As I check into it, I can't find anything with this model number.
Can anyone help me?
Wish to upgrade my PM G5 model 7.3. (June 2004). I have a 2 GHz dual core. Most 3,5" SATA HD today are SATA-300 and SATA-600 could either of these SATA HD be used in my G5, or is there some other specification on the SATA that I need to know before I purchase it? I am looking for two 1 TB HD to upgrade.

I am about to buy a computer and just been doing some research. When I went to best buy and ran a geekbench score on the imac it was like around 5800.
A seller on ebay who is selling a Mac Pro 3.0 ghz just ran the score and posted the results of 6214
[URL]
Based off of this score alone wouldn't it mean that the 2007 Mac Pro is faster than the newer 2010 imac
is their a way to download iphone apps on my mac book pro?
View 3 Replies View Related I am becoming way to used to going to the Genius Bar with this machine. I have an early 2008 MacBook Pro and it has suffered around 4 or 5 hard drive failures since then, had it's logic board and super drive replaced, and is still giving me a headache. The last time the Genius Bar replaced the HD on my MBP was on New Years
Anyways, here's what's going on.
I woke up this morning ready to tackle writing my college admissions essay. I open my MBP up (I always leave it on), and nothing happens. Okay, I press the power button and nothing happens again! Oh no. I don't hear the HD spin, actually, the machine emits no noise whatsoever. I tried all the suggested steps online that I could find including this one (Troubleshooting a MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro that won't turn on and it still won't power up
I made an appointment with the Genius Bar at 2:00 PM today but I'm wondering if I could do anything to figure out what's wrong so I don't have to do the now ritual 45 minute drive north to Reno. Yikes.
I am trying to decide whether to get the 2010 model or the cheaper 2009 model. These are the differences that I've found so far for the base model. For arguments sake, let's say they both have 4gb ram (most people selling them have upgraded to 4gb)
2010: 2.4ghz, longer battery, nvidia 320m
2009: 2.26ghz, (slightly) shorter battery, nvidia 9400m
Having a slightly slower cpu, less battery life (about 7 hours rather than 9) and a slightly weaker gpu don't bother me so much, as I will be mostly using the macbook pro for internet surfing and writing word documents
My question is, are there any other differences? (that would make me go for the 2010 rather than the 2009 model) - maybe differences in the display? shape? something else?
i am contemplating buying a late 2008 mbp air i found for $800 on CL. it has the 1.86 ghz 2gig ram and an 128 gb ssd. would that be comparable to the new 2010 version? i know the new one will edge it out, but by how much? i do a lot of art using flash, illustrator, and ps but just want to use this machine occasionally when i travel, ill have another machine for the heavy lifting if needed be. is that a good deal? or should i just wait and get the 2010 version which is double that?
View 5 Replies View Relatedis the model MB321LLA for Airport Express the newest model which is current selling at Apple?
because I saw some sellers selling this model and I wanna get it but when I check Apple.com, I don't see the the newest model number they are currently selling
PC World (in the UK) are selling the old 2.66GHz 15" model for 1,149 (rather than 1,499 for the new model).
The differences between it and the new model are summarised below (as I understand them)
Battery: Old: 5hr, New:7hr non-swappable
Display: New: Better colour gamut (apparently?)
Processor: Old: 6MB cache, New: 3MB cache
Card bay: Old: Express34, New: SD
Of the above only the battery life is of any relevance to me (unless the display quality is really that different?). The SD card would be marginally more useful than the Express card.
I did an extensive search for this topic before posting, so I guess it's safe to ask. Are there any places where you can download other iPhoto book themes? I would really like to have more variation with the books. Or if there isn't any place to download new ones from, is there a way to make your own? I know there are Keynote themes and iDVD themes, but are there iPhoto book themes? Or are they way too complex compared to iDVD and Keynote?

I've been contemplating recently (as most mac users do) about switching my 2 year old MBP (2.2 ghz, 2gb ram, 8600m) to the new MBP (15" 2.8, newer gfx, touchpad and a few minor details).
I've been eying the ebay prices for some time and my particular model (with charger, snow leopard, original accessories but w/o box) is valued at about 700gbp. Perhaps people might disagree with me here - how much is it really worth ?
My main point / question is really at what point should I ditch the existing MBP in favor of the new mbp - does it really offer me that much of a benefit at this time to upgrade? I'd sure like the new graphics card in there (is it really that much better?) but I'm not sure there's a significant enough difference there.
On the other hand if I wait much longer the MBP will become pretty devalued and not get me much back for the new and improved MBP - maybe apple's going to improve them soon anyway?
I have a big problem. For some months now I haven't been able to start up my Mac. It's a Mac PowerBook G4 bought back in 2002. It's a laptop. When I push the start button it shows me the grey screen with an apple. Then the screen turns blue showing the white and square icon with an apple, Mac OSX and the line for loading saying "starting Mac OS X..." When the loading sign is complete or almost complete it stops. Nothing more happens. It just stands there the blue screen with the loading line that looks pretty complete. What can be wrong? Some time ago I was asked the message: if I want to use the new way of starting up my computer, and I clicked YES, because I thought it was the normal software updating. And eversine then it hasn't been able to finish starting up. Can anyone give me suggestions of what to do? Or maybe tell me what is wrong? Maybe it has something to do with the "new starting up" message I said yes to, or maybe not.
I really hope someone out there can give me some advice, because now I haven't been able to use my Mac for months!
I have a four-year-old 17 inch Powerbook that is in need of some restoration. The optical drive does not work, the battery lasts all of 3 minutes when its not plugged in and the firewire ports dont work. So since the optical drive and firewire ports are unusable I cannot install Leopard, which I would like to do. Also disk utility says the hard drive needs permissions repaired but I would need to insert the install disk to fix them and since I dont have disk warrior or drive genius already installed it seems like a problem is going to happen soon.

Sometimes right after I turn it on, sometimes after 30 minutes. After turning it back everything seems to be fine, no loss of data. Anyone else experienced the same problem and can suggest how to fix it?

Ive tried over and over to upgrade. I uninstalled the old flashplayer, installed the new version, did a disk repair and nothing. The only way for me to view a flv video is to go to “open with” and use Realplayer. It says it’s successfully installed but when I try to view a video the only thing that happens is that another window pops up that is completely blank but has a title that reads:

My room mate turns on his computer and the screen is fine. After about 15 miuntes the screen image basically goes negative for a minute or so. After that little pixels begin to rain down until the entire screen is pixelated. When it is pixelated I can use an external monitor to view my desktop perfectly, which eliminates the graphics card as the issue in my opinion.
