Cannot eject the start-up disk from my PowerBook G4 (laptop). Can anyone help me? My screen is blank too, that's why I'm using the start-up disk.

Just recently got back from a visit to my local Apple store in regards to a faulty power adapter. My Macbook started up fine at the store, as it has over the past two years. However, after getting home and trying to turn it on, the laptop fails to boot up. It sits at the grey screen with the Apple-logo and spinning progress circle, all while the fan starts to whirl as if my macbook were on fire. I've experienced a failed hard-drive before, so I know of the folder w/question mark screen, and this screen is not like that. I've also tried booting up in "Safe-Mode," but that won't work as well. I do have a start-up disk and external hard-drive... I'm just curious to see what other options I might have before reinstalling Leopard.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI added 2 sticks of 512 to my power mac g5 1.6. I had ahard time getting the computer to see the new ram, but finally was able to kinda get it working after zapping the pram. However my computer only saw these 2 sticks as 256, odd. So i attempted to troubleshoot the problem. I tried just installing the new ram, but the computer wouldnt boot. I tried a few different combos with the other 4 sticks i had, but nothing. I put the old memory back in, and still nothing. The power led looks to blink once every five seconds or so. I tried pressing the pmu reset button, but still the same out come. I also tried taking out the battery, nothing.

My wife dropped her powerbook on the carpeted floor. It fell flat and not on a corner or anything. We did not think it was too bad of a fall. However, the laptop will now not power up. The screen remains dark, no chimes. The hard drive sounds like it wants to power up but doesn't. I suspect it is a hard drive issue, but is there a way to confirm prior to opening it up? I have replaced the drive before so I know I can do it again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is bad and old, and full of lessons about backing up. Anyway, internal boot drive crashed a week ago, and internal optical drive is busted. New external LaCie dvd burner works fine, but all attempts to start up from Tiger, Leopard and Diskwarrior installation disks just end up back in OS10.3 on my external LaCie FW drive. I've tried many things: unplugged everything; switched external LaCie to USB (wouldn't boot), unplugged power from internal optical drive so Mac wouldn't look there first (somebody suggested that). Attempts to start up installers from mounted DVDs result in installer screen with restart button, which, when clicked on, results in... you guessed it... boot back to dreaded 10.3 system. Night owls and westcoasters, I am up for hours yet, pulling hair.

im having a problem with my mac, I turned it off earlier on today and only recently turned it back on to find that it won't boot up (meaning it stays on the apple logo and swirly loading wheel and doesn't do anything) I've tried safe mode but it appears with a question Mark on a folder for a split second (this didn't happen when i tried it in safe mode)
So i tried a last resort, reinstalling my OS, bearing in mind I'm also using an external CD drive as my one inside my mac has broke. I get to the part where it says "insert disk 2 to begin in-stallion" i do so then my external cd drive stops an my laptop freezes, the loading wheel on my curser just carries on turning. I have no access to my OS at all.
I am becoming way to used to going to the Genius Bar with this machine. I have an early 2008 MacBook Pro and it has suffered around 4 or 5 hard drive failures since then, had it's logic board and super drive replaced, and is still giving me a headache. The last time the Genius Bar replaced the HD on my MBP was on New Years
Anyways, here's what's going on.
I woke up this morning ready to tackle writing my college admissions essay. I open my MBP up (I always leave it on), and nothing happens. Okay, I press the power button and nothing happens again! Oh no. I don't hear the HD spin, actually, the machine emits no noise whatsoever. I tried all the suggested steps online that I could find including this one (Troubleshooting a MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro that won't turn on and it still won't power up
I made an appointment with the Genius Bar at 2:00 PM today but I'm wondering if I could do anything to figure out what's wrong so I don't have to do the now ritual 45 minute drive north to Reno. Yikes.
How do i get programs to not automatically open when i power on my laptop? I tried system preference > General and unchecked the box "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening" that didnt work.

I received a 27 LED apple/mac monitor --not the 2011/12 version though.I want to use with my work computer--a dell laptop. I can't seem to find the right adaptor to connect the two.I need a dvi port converter that also connects to my vga on my laptop (so need the male end of hte vga since my laptop has the female end).I only found 1 adaptor but it ends with a dvi on a vga. I don't have hdmi on my laptop either--tried that adaptor as well when I couldn't see on the pic when I ordered that it was hdmi not usb). Please help. I have read so many blogs that say it can be done.

I have a big problem. For some months now I haven't been able to start up my Mac. It's a Mac PowerBook G4 bought back in 2002. It's a laptop. When I push the start button it shows me the grey screen with an apple. Then the screen turns blue showing the white and square icon with an apple, Mac OSX and the line for loading saying "starting Mac OS X..." When the loading sign is complete or almost complete it stops. Nothing more happens. It just stands there the blue screen with the loading line that looks pretty complete. What can be wrong? Some time ago I was asked the message: if I want to use the new way of starting up my computer, and I clicked YES, because I thought it was the normal software updating. And eversine then it hasn't been able to finish starting up. Can anyone give me suggestions of what to do? Or maybe tell me what is wrong? Maybe it has something to do with the "new starting up" message I said yes to, or maybe not.
I really hope someone out there can give me some advice, because now I haven't been able to use my Mac for months!
my old 2x2Ghz PM G5 (late2004) doesn't launch the boot sequence:
- when pushing power button, the blue led turn ON as long as I keep it pushed. If not pushed, it light off but yet the fan are running.
- no chime
- the fans turn on normally and the hard drive start a little to make noise once powered up.
- no video on display, the screen is black.
- the keyboard is not recognized anywhere I plug it.
- after a minute or two of non activity, the fans start to blow full speed (guess its a security measure for saving processor)
I ve done the reset of PMU several time (unplug the power cord then push the button at bottom of mother board)As i dont have access to keyboard, I can't start on Target mode to check if the HD is failing all.I ve removed all RAM extensions and left only one pair in slot 1 (J0), and changed the pair to avoid a faulty RAM.I only have a redlight on motherboard if I don t put back the glass panel.I ve check the voltage of the lithium battery, and yet its the original, the voltmeter says its 3,6V...
I have a 12' iBook G4 (1.33 ghz) that took a tumble and the power connector snapped off inside of it. I took it apart, popped out the broken bit from the dc-in board, and used it until the battery drained. It worked fine until then.I bought a new power cord, but it failed to charge the battery, and after searching through countless forums, I figured the problem was the dc-in board. I bought a replacement, and just installed it. Now, the battery indicator lights (the four green ones) are showing that it's charging up. It's on three right now. But the computer still won't power on. No fan noise, no other lights. I tried the PMU reset, but nothing. It's weird.

My MacBook Pro power adapter lights up orange even though it is not plugged into a device. When I do plug it into my laptop it remains the same and does not charge. Due to this my laptop is now dead.
What does this orange light mean?

I'm considering buying an old G3 500 Mhz laptop. Seller says it can't boot by itself, either through its own hard drive or an OS Panther installer in the cd drive. It does give the welcome chime but the screen then displays the folder with the question mark. So it's either the hard drive or the logic board. Anybody try to boot off the cd thru an external cd drive (with its own external power supply)? There is no firewire port on this model. Yeah I know I'm supposed to press the option key before the welcome chime.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a four-year-old 17 inch Powerbook that is in need of some restoration. The optical drive does not work, the battery lasts all of 3 minutes when its not plugged in and the firewire ports dont work. So since the optical drive and firewire ports are unusable I cannot install Leopard, which I would like to do. Also disk utility says the hard drive needs permissions repaired but I would need to insert the install disk to fix them and since I dont have disk warrior or drive genius already installed it seems like a problem is going to happen soon.

Ive tried over and over to upgrade. I uninstalled the old flashplayer, installed the new version, did a disk repair and nothing. The only way for me to view a flv video is to go to “open with” and use Realplayer. It says it’s successfully installed but when I try to view a video the only thing that happens is that another window pops up that is completely blank but has a title that reads:

i was considering getting a new macbook pro 13" for high school because my laptop is really starting to act up and its really getting annoying, and i don't want to lose my homework because of my computer crashing during the school year.
so, if i take out the hard drive from my computer (120gig)(the vista computer) and put it into a 2.5 enclosure, would i be able to boot vista on the mac from the hard drive?
ive seen hackintoshes that boot from a flash drive so i was just wondering. also, is there any special way to install an OEM version of windows on a mac? i have the CD, so that is another option for getting windows on the mac.
It's running the drive, but nothing happens. Replaced hard drive and laptop will not boot up. I've changed it before so I know I've installed it correctly.
