I set up iCloud between my iMac and my iPad. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would delete everything off of my iMac in favor of the few contacts I had on the iPad.
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Address Book Import From ICloud To IMac?
Jul 1, 2012I am trying to import my address book contacts information from iCloud to my iMac. I want the addresses to be physically on the iMac and to stay there when I turn off contacts in my iMac iCloud settings. I thought I could do it by exporting the Address Book to an external hard drive with iCloud contacts on, turning iCloud contacts off, and importing the Address Book from the external drive. Well, the iMac was not so easily fooled; when I did this, it turned Contacts back on in the iCloud settings and when I then turned it off (again) and clicked to save contacts on the iMac, the address book was empty again. How can I actually, physically, transfer my Contacts from iCloud to my IMac? I am doing this as a means of copying my iPhone (and IPad) contacts to my iMac. I want the contacts to be the same in all three devices with iCloud contacts turned off on all three devices.

Recently converted IBOOK from just my wifes computer to both of us so it is now dual usuage with both of us signing in to our respective files/e-mail, etc. My side has a problem never experienced before. My apple mail system address book has all the names the dock address book does but is missing almost 2/3rd of the actual e-mail addressess. I have tried to redo the dock address book in hopes it would change the "internal" mail book, but to no avail. It id difficult to add a recipient to an outgoing e-mail via the dock address instead of the apple mail address book.

Try as I might, doing various combinations of name or group selections in the address book window, I cannot seem to get the "Edit Distributuion List" item to be un-greyed. Effectively, the program is not allowing me to do the edit function I need to do on this one group member.Â
Am I missing the secret handshake in this process? Why should it be this hard to do this simple function?Â
Which raises the larger question of "What did Apple do to the Address Book application in general?" This issue is only the tip of my iceberg. The whole app seems to be harder to use than before.Â

Oct 27, 2010I am trying to move all of my contacts from my iphone to the address book on my macbook. I have carried out a back up and then tried a sync choosing the "merge info" option along the way. I have retained all the contacts on my phone but cannot get them to appear in my address book on my mac. When I look at my contacts on the iphone - when I check in the groups tab I now have two listing under "from my mac" these are the single contact i made up in order to merge and "all from my mac" which contains this single contact along with the standard apple contact that always appears. It seems the info is going to the phone but not back into my address book.

ICloud :: Not Updating Address Book On MacBook Pro
May 7, 2012I use iCloud for my iphone 4, ipad 2, and MacBook Pro, all synced wirelessly via iTunes. However I can't get Address Book on the MacBook to update via iCloud. I've tried everything I can think of including deleting all entries and starting again, deleting the icloud account in preferences, ticking and unticking the enable box beside it, ticking and unticking the icloud box for contacts in system preferences (removing all entries at the same time).
I've selected the icloud account as the address book but it's still not seeing the contacts entries that I can see with my own eyes on the icloud website. It's never worked but I've turned a blind eye to it, since having got over the multiple entries and lost diaries fiasco when I first started to use it I've chosen to ignore the next problem.

May 18, 2012I was messing around with the contacts in my address book... i had added some contacts directly into my Address Book on my MacBook Pro i5 that weren't showing up on my iPhone 4S address book. I wanted to try to sync them over from my Address Book to my iPhone.I backed up my address book which created the document Address Book - 18-05-2012.abbu which is great. Then i deleted my contacts from my Address Book.Next day i realised in doing so it has also removed all my contacts from my iPhone too!
Now i want to use the Address Book - 18-05-2012.abbu file to retrieve my contacts. I click on it and it says: Are you sure you want to replace all of the contacts in your address book with the contacts in Address Book - 18-05-2012.abbu?I click "Replace All" and it populates all my contacts again FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS BEFORE THEY ALL DISAPPEAR AGAIN.Why won't they come back for good? I've tried it 5-6 times now and when i click on "Replace All" all my contacts magically appear, and then almost immediately disappear again.
