Does anyone have a clue if it is possible to connect an esata device to an iMac? I've seen usb to esata adapter but are they as fast? Is it worth it compared to firewire 800?I do hd video on my portable hdd, so i need something fast.
View 18 RepliesI have taken out the optical drive of my imac 7 and use its sata port on the motherboard to connect with the sata-esata cable. And then I connected the external hard disk to the esata.But neither the OS nor the Disk Utility saw the external harddisk. anyone here successfully done this before? Have I missed something?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI purchased and installed the Commell MPX-3132 in place of my Airport Card. Installation was very easy and the RAID drivers work perfectly. I cloned my HD to my SSD using CCC and everything shows up fine via ESATA and USB. When I try to boot from it via ESATA it is not recognized, but it boots perfectly from USB. I Booted to it via USB and installed the RAID drivers onto the SSD then tried to boot via ESATA again with no luck. The SSD I bought is the Corsair Force 120 and the enclosure is a Hornettek usb/esata [URL:...] I haven't had a chance to test another enclosure.

Does anyone know if esata is as fast as the Internal version? If so I would be very interested in replacing my optical drive with a ssd and adding a esata for an external optical drive or another ssd. Would this work?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy buddy and I just finished swapping the airport card for a mini pci-e sata card in his 2008 Imac and all is well. Unfortunately, we could not get it to show or mount anywhere on mine (2010). We tried everything. We loaded the raid drivers and the none raid. We tried both cards (his and mine) in my machine and still nothing. His Imac mounted his ssd immediately after installing the drivers. Could it be that the new logic boards do not support this type of card? Is there a special driver that I need for the i7? I was hoping this would add 2 more sata ports.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two external hard drives. First is Lacie 4big quadra. It is connected to my mac via FW800 Then I have a g-raid connected to the lacie via FW800. This all works fine. Both external drives have eSata. Is it possible to connect the two drives together via eSata to take advantage of the faster transfer speeds between the two drives? Even though the first drive is connected to the mac via FW800. I tried and the second drive didn't mount when connected via eSata.. but maybe I am doing something wrong.

My idea was to connect the iMac with the TV through the S - video input by using the apple's video adapters Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and Apple DVI to Video Adapter. But when i saw the pictures of these adapters i saw that my idea is impossible, because the connection between them is impossible because of the 4 additional pins in one of the adapters - Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter. I recently got a few external HDD, and for the life of me couldn't find any Firewire equipped enclosures. Seems eSata and USB have taken the standard.
So I decided to just suck it up and use USB.
Now apple has taken away the express card slot, is there any way to utilise eSata on a MBP? The only conceivable way would be through firewire.

I installed the card and driver on my Powermac G5 Dual 2.0, (10.4.10), and although System Profiler recognizes the card on the PCI bus, it will not recognize the drive through the Esata connection. I tried all four of the ports, and nothing. Disk utility shows nothing there.
The G5 does recognize the drive through the USB 2.0 connection.
I don't know whether this card is compatible or not, and I can't find any information on what would be online.
Does anyone know how I can get the eSata to work?
I have a late 2008 12" MacBook with a FireWire 400 slot (only). I am hooking up an 8TB Raid hard drive to it for digitizing, backup and editing on FCP 6 and would like to have a higher speed available than the laptop's FireWire 400 provides. Is there a way to augment/build out the MacBook to utilize either a FireWire 800 slot or an eSATA EC2 card? I don't think this version of the MacBook (MacBook4,1) has a PCI or PCIe card slot. Although I believe it may have a mini-PCIe card somewhere, as the last page of the Users Guide says (under Europe—EU Declaration of Conformity):
"Hereby, Apple Inc. declares that this 802.11a/b/g/n Mini-PCIe card is in compliance with the R&TTE Directive."

I have the new iMac 27' and was trying to capture some video from my DVR via a composite cable-USB converter. The composites run into a USB cable. So I plugged the USB cable into my Mac and tried to capture the video. Nothing came up in Toast showing me how to capture or even giving me a option to capture. I'd like to swap usage, but neither device will "discover" the new device to swap, and obviously I don't want to disconnect the existing one first because I'd lose control. The Bluetooth Preference panel just shows spinning wheel next to Device in the title, but never discovers the added device..

I recently purchased the LG BE08LU20 External Blu-ray Disc Rewriter. I installed Windows 7 (64-bit) through Boot Camp on my 27" iMac. When I try to play Blu-ray discs through the external drive on the Cyberlink PowerDVD software, it says that the software "is not able to play the protected content on [my] digital output device". Is there any way to fix this issue?
