I own 2 iMacs. One uses a Magic Mouse, the other Magic Trackpad. I'd like to swap usage, but neither device will "discover" the new device to swap, and obviously I don't want to disconnect the existing one first because I'd lose control. The Bluetooth Preference panel just shows spinning wheel next to Device in the title, but never discovers the added device..

I have the new iMac 27' and was trying to capture some video from my DVR via a composite cable-USB converter. The composites run into a USB cable. So I plugged the USB cable into my Mac and tried to capture the video. Nothing came up in Toast showing me how to capture or even giving me a option to capture. I have an HP Printer that requires me to run the HP Device Manager. I am new to macs and recently purchased an imac. My problem is when I connect a usb device such as my iphone or camera there is no sound played signifying that it is connected. I am used to using windows where a noticeable tune it played everytime a device is connected or disconnected. I have tried looking in setting and such without much luck. I have a 2006 Intel Macbook with a crashed hard drive. I'm kinda broke right now, so instead of buying a new hard drive I loaded ubuntu 10.4 onto an external hard drive (USB) and tried to boot the macbook from it. (Failed). I hold down option to launch Startup Manager and all it shows me is a cursor (no drives). I know the external drive is bootable because I a) booted the laptop from a LiveCD and used it to create the hard drive and b) I booted a Dell from the external. I've tried moving the drive to a different USB port, but no chips. I don't have anything else connected to the computer.Â
my question is: Can I boot the macbook from the external hard drive if the internal hard drive is shot?
